January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Its sad that rather than take a pay cut and keep playing at the highest level he is just going to move down a league so he gets paid the same.

Unless of course he was willing to drop his wages and never got an offer. I find that hard to imagine though with the price he was available at.

Crazy that Snjeder has gone to Galatasary.

I was listening to an interview the other day with one of his representatives or someone who said that money is nothing to him as he's not that sort of bloke & he just wants to play at the highest level he can, while he can and that he's also willing to take a major pay cut go to a team who are likely to win something, basically he was putting him in the shop window.
So if that's true then perhaps Gala were the only team who fancied taking a punt on him as he's not good enough anymore.
Personally the first thing that comes to my mind when someone is linked with Gala or Pana is that no-one else wants them, not that they're after more dosh.

In all fairness to Sneijder if he wants to win things then Galatasaray are a reasonable choice - he's likely to be able to claim the Turkish League most years...

That's about as prestigious as getting chocolate money for christmas isn't it?

Don't knock it, I'm always happy to get chocolate coins at Christmas. :D

Sure, it's probably not great but what other leagues would he have a similar chance at with a well supported club and who'd be pretty close to guaranteed a title or a cup? Celtic - possible but I'm pretty sure they couldn't/wouldn't be able to match Galatasaray's wage offer. Porto is another possibility perhaps but again I don't know if they've got the spending power.

I'm sure anzhi or someone would have wanted him if it was just about cash.

Exactly... this **** ****s me off about football. He's bound to be a £millionaire, so in a way his agent would be right about the money thing but it's a load of balls any way because he's going there and he will be on at least £100k a week after tax, I don't know much about their taxes but it probably won't be too high but if it was I'm sure his agent / accountant would work a way around that.

He could for example go to Liverpool (using them as an example because it's rumoured they're interested) and push them into a CL spot at the end of the season he'd become an instant legend there, maybe help them win a cup the season after or something... everyone will think "yeah that guy Sneijder what a player, came to Liverpool on cut wages helped them into the CL and win 'x' cup, proper footballer him could have gone some where for a massive pay day" etc etc but instead it's just going to be "oh Sneijder, that guy that could have done something brilliant but instead went to a tin pot league for money and the sunshine".

So many footballers are either, scared or worried about their own capabilities or just too focused on money and not their own self accomplishment. If I was a pro footballer I'd want to win everything and anything that I could, but that doesn't mean choosing some ****** tin pot league and more money than playing in one of the best leagues in the world on less money.

Rant over.

I think Sneijder is a good player but he was part of an extremely effective team in 2010 that rode the Mourinho wave to CL glory but after that just fell apart really.

Some of them have left and Cesar seems to be finding his form again after two years of being second choice through form and injuries at Inter. Maicon was starting to show real quality for City as well before he got injured and I am sure he can recapture his form again also.

I don't know what offers he got but it seems from the outside he was happy to go to Turkey if he was offered the same wages he is on now if not more but not happy to drop his wages and carry on at the highest level which says it all really about him as a professional. A genuine mercenary.

Players like Nasri are called money grabbers etc but at the end of the day he left a team that was being dismantled around him to go to a team that was investing heavily on and off the pitch and on course to win trophies, which he has done!
He got a nice bonus of a new contract worth more money as well.

Sorry Biz but you cant call Sneijder a genuine mercenary and then try to defend someone like Nasri, worst case they're both as bad as one another, personally though I've never seen Nasri show an ounce of the amount of class Sneijder showed during the transfer negotiations with us, never before have I ever seen a player thank another clubs supporters for their support throughout a transfer negotiation on a move that never actually happened, sure Wesley had Robbo tweeting him love messages every 5 minutes but still

Nasri's a mercenary because he chose City over Utd? As for Sneijder's class - ultimately he didn't join you and has gone on to sign for Galatasaray for one reason, money. Saying thank you on twitter is pretty meaningless.

Well I can because that's what I think.

Nasri thanked utd fans before moving to us? I don't remember that but ok.

I just think that if in the case of Sneijder you are still easily capable of playing at the highest level for years to come and you (from the outside) choose to go to a club that plays in a league that is nowhere near the level of the others in Europe just so you can keep your huge wages if not be paid more you are a mercenary.

In the case of Nasri as I said he left Arsenal to go to a better team ultimately, he has come to City and yes he is being paid more than what he was at Arsenal but he is also an integral part of a squad that has the real capability of winning trophies such as the Premier League and has already won more than what he did at Arsenal!

If you move from your current job to another one that will give you a better standard of life/living you are a mercenary?

referring to Wes not Nasri

To sit and watch most days yes lol

Im not sure if these rumours about WS's attitude are correct or not, but imo the fact that he was forced to go to Turkey (as he wasnt interested in any other offers for whatever reason) hints at there may be some basis to the rumours
