Considering our defensive frailties and the fact any forward will stunt the growth of Sterling, who's finally looking like the player he did last season again, going for someone like Konoplyanka seems like we're just planning on ignoring our problems. Don't know much about Fernando but isn't he meant to be a loan signing?

Edit: Something else that doesn't make sense is Salah was our number one target yet we weren't prepared to pay over £10 million or something yet Konoplyanka is rumoured to be costing £16 million :confused:

Konoplyanka is a left sided winger, so shouldnt impact Sterling, although if you believe what's being written we wanted both Salah (RW) and Kono (LW) but weren't expecting to try and deal for Kono until summer, with the Salah deal forcing us to deal now.

I'm not sure about the structure of a deal, just heard saw Fernando being linked to us. Seems to be very highly rated.

It's a difficult one really, we've actually got quite a lot of defenders in the squad, it just so happens that a lot of them are currently injured. Once they're all fit we wouldn't be able to rotate them all properly, let alone fit them in. I can see why Rodgers might be hesitant to bring any more in;

Flanagan/Enrique/Cissokho
Skrtel/Toure/Agger/Sakho (Ilori/Coates)
Johnson/Kelly (Wisdom)
 
I'm not really bothered about our CBs long term but I don't rate any of our LBs and I'm not sure if Johnson will still be here next season and Kelly can't be relied upon and should be sold. Not even sure Wisdom will be any more than a backup either although I'm hoping he'll improve with age.
 
Sky Sports sources understand an Arsenal delegation is in Germany negotiating to sign Julian Draxler from Schalke.

It is thought discussions are ongoing over a fee between the two clubs.

Draxler's buy-out clause is £37million, but we understand Arsenal are reluctant to pay more than £30million for the Germany international.

We've got to try and find a central midfielder to buy, even if it's someone with potential who isn't massively expensive. I'm hoping the reports about Fernando are true (he's out of contract in June), but any links to us or Liverpool seem very weak at best.
 
Well if this is to be believed, it does look like we will sign Draxler but will allow him to see out the season at Schalke. Im hoping that this isnt true but we shall soon find out and if it is true then i guess i was right when i originally said that Drax is a signing for us next season rather than this season.

CaughtOffside understands that the North London club have been in extensive talks with Draxler’s Bundesliga employers and have come to an agreement on a compromise arrangement that appears to suit all sides.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger has been keen to agree a deal with Schalke for the 20 year old German international this month but though the Gelsenkirchen based side are resigned to losing the talented midfielder they had been keen to hang onto their prized asset as long as possible.

Therefore it appears Arsenal will sign Draxler and then allow the player to see out the season with Schalke as they continue their participation in the Champions League whilst also looking to secure a berth in the competition for next season.

While I'd say it's possible, CaughtOffside talk utter rubbish so ignore them.

You'd need him in now, really. You might well be 3rd in the table tonight so need another Ozil style boost.

Everything has gone very quiet unfortunately and any "new" report seems to hinge on something that happened a week ago :(

It doesnt look to me like anything else will happen before the summer now


But it does look like Nike, Addidas , Warrior are "fighting" over our kit deal this week.......rumours coming out of £65m+ /season for a 5 year deal, not bad business if it can be signed off / completed.
 
All the warrior home kits have been fantastic, Adidas did good in 07/08 and 08/09.

The last one was utterly ****, and I'd rather have a good home kit than away ones

Ahh fair enough, its why i said if its to be believed that story. It wouldnt surprise me if thats what Schalke want ie to keep Drax till end of their season as hes a very important player to them.

Hoping in the next few days or so something comes of this.
