I think that they're just trying to placate fans by being heavily linked to players but not actually getting them, similar to Liverpool who I've no doubt could have got Salah (for instance) if they really wanted him.
Neither of those teams really need anyone at the moment but their fans are crying out for signings and the wise people who deal with transfers are holding off until the summer when it's far better to buy.

I can sympathise in a way, I would be gutted if United hadn't signed Mata and we had to continue with the dross we have.

I'm surprised Liverpool are after attackers though, seems they are crying out for a CB and a DM but they haven't even been linked with any.

Chelsea have bought extremely well :( Did you see Jose's comment about people wondering why they haven't bought a striker and that people will realise why in the summer?

We're well covered for CBs. Agger, Sakho and Skrtel are all fantastic players and we've got Toure, Coates and Kelly able to play there. Just got a few injuries at the moment.

We're dry ****ed in the DM position though.

Thing is though, you need more than just Mata.
That's why I don't think they're actually after the likes of Salah & Ko*********, goals aren't a problem for them right now.
Yeah I did. It's been pretty obvious since JM came back that there is something going on as regards to a proper striker next season, he's talked about 1 or 2 clinical signings to complete the puzzle.
I would've loved that to be Rooney and JM hinted when talking about the Mata deal that Chelsea did the right thing in letting the player talk to who he wants to but he's another year older next year (obv) so I think it might be that Costa bloke.
 
Atletico have a really really serious chance at winning the title this year, if they do, I don't know how much he'd take to buy nor if he'd want to go.

Winning La liga ahead of the big two, that team would basically be legends, if I was them I'd stick around for at least a year.

Of course if Utd were sensible they'd nick their manager and jump to pole position to get Costa and pee off Mourinho at the same time, awesome.

Yeah, that's the summer though (United), I think we'll strengthen significantly.

That's all assuming that some sort of pre-contract stuff hasn't been agreed.
Whoever JM is after he's pretty confident it's done whatever happens from here to the end of the season.
 
Chelsea could go for Falcao too, his situation is a strange one so a deal could be sorted out, you never know.

That would be dependent on how he recovers from his injury though, as I mentioned above JM seems very confident of what's going to happen.

If I had to guess, I'd say some sort of Costa - Courtois swap deal is on the cards in the summer. PSG did seem strangely open to selling Cavani when we were linked with him (from what Blanc said) though.
