For those questioning Holtby, he has 3 goals and 6 assists in avb's team that couldn't score. He hasn't really played under Sherwood (one awful match where he was paired with another attacking centre midfielder, eriksen I think). The chap is kwallateeeeeeee!

3 goals 5 assists on espn(they don't count penalties as assists like other sites so I presume the 6th would be him being fouled and someone else taking the penalty.

What you failed to say was, 3 assists came against a Villa C team in the cup, 2 goals and 2 assists came in Europe against Anzi, who aren't a huge spending team, but in relegation zone in the RUssian league after firing the manager and half the team, and Tromso, and Dinamo Tbilisi.

He has a single league goal from 20 shots, no assists and the goal was against a truly awful Fulham.

None of that says "success". He only started 6 games in the league, he didn't score or assist on any of his starts. He was yanked off at half time against City(injury or for just being **** I don't know).

His stats are rubbish, padded out against truly woeful European teams and Villa played a reserve team in the cup. I didn't see him look remotely useful once in his entire time at Spurs frankly. AVB barely played him last year, or this year, 2 assists last year in the league for Spurs, where he only had four starts because AVB didn't seem to really like him either, and AVB wasn't exactly starting or relying on him this year either. Sherwood moving on a pretty useless player, Fulham picking up another one.

Apparently we are linked with Morrison fromWBA and Hoolahan to replace Cabaye :mad:

I solemnly promise, right now, if we sign either of those useless ***** as Cabayes replacement I will post a picture of myself on here in a Sunderland top, holding a sign saying I hate Newcastle and I will cheer for Sunderland tomorrow.

If we sink that low I'm officially done with Newcastle and becoming just a football fan until Cashley the **** leaves.

So if you buy Grenier as a replacement in the summer but buy Morrison as cover now who would start and effectively replace Cabaye now, but become backup/rotation(and fairly decent for that) next season.... you'd still throw a screaming tantrum about it?

So if they sign someone as cover because its' hard to sign people, you hate him, and if they don't sign someone at all, you hate him. They clearly tried to sign someone with a lot of potential who is relatively rated, and couldn't get him in time, this much is clear... so if they sign someone in the meantime... its a reason to hate Ashley why exactly?
 
I'm all for replacements but replacing a world class player with a mediocre talent from a bottom half of the table is regressing.

I know you live what Cashley does but even you must see that as regression.

Did you read what I wrote at all?

I could say we've replaced Fabregas with Ozil, but we got who we could in the meantime. Morrison isn't as good as Cabaye, but it is CLEAR as day that Newcastle already tried to replace Cabaye with someone much better than Morrison... they weren't available right now. If they get Morrison I see no evidence that it means they will never again buy a central midfielder, or won't try and get someone in summer.

Their target wasn't available, if they pick up someone to bolster numbers in the meantime, it's better than no one. If in a year Newcastle still haven't replaced him and haven't tried to, then I'd complain. Getting Morrison or Fabregas this transfer window isn't going to win you the title, nor cause relegation this season. Just because you sell and buy a central midfielder in the same window does not mean it's a direct replacement.
