considering they already have modric, illara, xabi, khedira, casemiro and apparently being quite fond of utd I think it's more likely he would go than to real who probably want pogba more

Doing terribly in the league and under a manager who probably wouldn't be his first choice to play under. United will be losing some players in the summer when their contracts run out and if Kagawa tells him the truth then I really don't see him picking it over Real.

if ozil joined arsenal I don't think its out of the question :)

Ozil probably saw a cultured manager with an actual clue about how to play attractive attacking football, fellow German internationals in the squad and a fantastic city to live in. What does United have going for it in the current state that Madrid can't better?

but for one who has gone nearly a decade without winning anything I very much doubt he would have choosen arsenal if he wasn't guaranteed playing time compared to any bigger clubs that would have been interested

Agreed.
The Kagawa link is not a positive one.
In fact, Man Utd should do everything possible to prevent Kagawa from giving him the full story of being played of position. Being played as a substitute. Not getting a decent run of games. etc etc etc.

In any case, I think Moyes is thinking of bringing in players who very few have heard of, rather than players who are already great or being touted as greats. I dont think he is interested in making star signings. This way, he can keep the wage bill down and he won't have to pay through the nose for players.

He paid a silly price for Mr Big Hair and I think he doesnt want to make the same mistake again.

BTW, a few years ago, Arsenal bought a player called Jose Antonio Reyes. This dude was going to be the best player of all time (or so the story goes). What is he upto these days? Which team does he play for and did he ever go on to huge things after leaving Arsenal?

Alonso has only just signed a new deal. Khedira hasn't been playing because of a serious knee injury, rather than being out of favour... until that injury he'd been playing this season.

Did Alonso sign a new deal? Didn't realise that!

I can't see Khedira getting back into the Madrid team, particularly now that Mourinho's gone. I guess we'll find out when he's fit though!

Yes, the period of not winning trophies is a fair comment, but the guy not only had a hand in designing the new stadium, he also saw to it that we stayed in the Champions League despite having not nearly as much financial muscle as the other three clubs who have traditionally made up the top four over the past 9 or 10 years. Now that the stadium has been paid off we're in a far better position financially. All while doing things the right way, bringing youngsters through the academy or at least buying younger players and teaching them the Arsenal philosophy.

Wenger has done a fantastic job and I don't think he should be judged solely on how many competitions he has won. I'm pretty sure Ozil would have looked at the project at Arsenal as a whole, the past few years we haven't been as competitive but we have always been in check with the top four, always competing in the Champions League and we've been in a few semis and a final where a quality player like Ozil may have made the difference between silverware or no.

United need more than Gundogan if they're going to compete for the league any time soon under Moyes. It goes to show how good a manager Fergie was when you consider the state of the squad he won the league with last season.

Madrid have only won five trophies in the last ten years, and two of them were the Spanish Supercup (the equivalent of our Charity Shield), so if trophies are the benchmark United have a better chance of signing Gundogan than they do!

^^ I agree - I wasn't arguing with you, but merely making a point! There is still space in Madrid's team for Gundogan. Isco and Modric, plus Alonso and Illara (effectively taking up one space between them). Then there's Khedira who's injured, and Casemiro who's only recently broken through.

He's an ex Arsenal player, so he obviously went on to win a league title very soon after leaving.....

I really don't know why every player possible doesn't sign for Arsenal. Big transfer, big wages, no need to actually play and 2-4 years later, leave and win a title.... guaranteed. :p

Big difference is that for the most part Kagawa 's favoured position is the same as Rooney....where as Gundogen would be replacing Cleverley/ Jones/ Fellaini quite a huge difference

The other thing that helps Utd in this situation is Kagawa himself admitting he needs more strength to compete in the EPL - now the club are surely helping with this although it does seem to be taking a lot of time considering when he arrived, I guess his illness before Xmas probably didnt help this at all.

Or you look at Arsenal adding Ozil ( who no one wanted to leave RM), Hazard at Chelsea maturing more and becoming twice the player he was last season (and Maureen giving the cold shoulder to Mata must have helped this) and yet again City spending a good wedge compared to Utd effectively taking a step backwards with RvP being injured for majority of the season and SAS at Liverpool.....so a valid comparison is really squads from 13/14 vs Utd @ 11/12 ( but with the added years in the legs of Giggs, Vidic, Rio and Evra)

No **** Sherlock of course Utd need more than one player, but one big name now ( even if he doesnt arrive until after the WC) will make signing other big names a lot easier

Edit really not sure why any CM would choose to go to RM specifically currently unless it has been a lifelong dream, no matter which was you look at it there arecgoimg to be top drawer bench warmers on very long contracts (works for the club of course, much less for the player(s) in question....unless they just want money)

We have NOT paid off the stadium, it's not due to be paid off for the next 10+ years, it is no where near paid off.

Secondly, Utd had similar financial power, at the time we stopped being competitive, most of their extra growth vs us since then has come from the commercial side, winnings from various cups and the financial growth of shirt sales and the like. Not least because we signed the single worst shirt deal in the top pretty much 8 teams in any top league at the time of the stadium that was painfully short sighted. A year or two before Pool/Utd were signing 20-30mil a year commercial deals we signed a 100mil shirt + stadium 10 year long deal. That was peeing away 20-25mil a year conservatively for a decade.

As for had a hand in the design of the stadium, yeah, they asked him how he liked his dressing room arranged and the like, which club wouldn't ask their current manager for that kind of input, beyond that he did very little.

Financially City didn't get their money till years after we moved, and only Chelsea had unlimited funds. Till what, 2007 or 2008 we were the third strongest team financially(second in terms of actual long term stability). The move to the new stadium increased our financial strength immediately, it will end up being 15mil or so a year further strengthened when the stadium is finally paid off.

Dat aggression. We haven't even played hilariously badly and lost today either...
