The bestest striker... before he joined Arsenal and Wenger made him a goalkeeper that is :p

Either way I wasn't taking twitter as gospel in any way, I was merely getting at that it sounds like Moyes based on what he's done already, thinking small or insanely big, not the sensible middle ground.

Try and buy Cesc for next to nothing(for someone of his calibre), spend more than initial offer on Fellaini......

You need a manager looking for absolutely top notch players waiting to move up in the world, not mediocre players who want(but don't deserve) more money/bigger club, and not looking for players at title contending sides who would never move.

So he needs to look for top notch players but not any that are at a title chasing team already? Pogba wants to move because he's a money grabbing little ****, his agent Raiola will be moving him round every few years.

He also can't attend the games himself as that just shows him to not be a top manager?

I'm struggling here.

Given that you appear to think Mannone is a striker, I'm going to take your thoughts on players' best positions with a pinch of salt.

yes, that is why I compared him to our keeper, Chesney....

Sometimes you type the wrong word, when context makes it insanely obvious what they meant I take it as a simple mistake and get on with life, other people make a big deal out of a simple mistake because they enjoy being that kind of person, good for you, other people can comprehend it was a simple mistake and get on with it.

Arteta was a box to box midfielder when he joined Everton, he was their DM long before he left Everton.

Actually, Arteta was a right midfielder/winger when we signed him. We turned him into a box to box attacking midfielder. Wenger turned him into a defensive playmaker. He hardly ever played a DM role at Everton, not unless injuries forced him there.

Yes, because watching one of the best teams in Europe and trying to sign their best players is something only idiots do, obviously.

yes actually......

Do you know how often Dortmund go and scout Bayern and consider a bid for Muller, Neuer, Dante... never, because it's an impossible get. Getting great players is fine, but wasting time looking at utterly unrealistic targets is something only idiots do. Who else in Europe wanted Cesc if he was available, every top team, who else mad a stupid bid, no one. Even though they might have thought "utd may know something we don't" no one else made a bid, because every other top club(with more money and could offer more wages) thought the idea was so stupid they didn't bid.

Henry was a winger at Juventus before he joined Arsenal.

That's what I said, he was also a striker at Monaco where Wenger worked before he joined Juve. He was a striker up until Wenger decided he should be a winger, at Monaco. Juve bought this promising player, as a winger, he turned out to not be that good. Wenger changed him back to a striker and it took him about 15 games to get the winger out of him and go back to the brilliant promising striker he had been a few years before Wenger toyed with his position.

Your analogy is completely flawed. Dortmund are in the same league as Bayern but obviously on a different level. Man Utd, while struggling this season, are still one of the biggest clubs in world football. They can pay wages most clubs won't, and even without Ferguson will be a huge draw for a lot of players. Also, considering that a lot of players want to try English football, it's not unreasonable to think that some of the players at Juve would consider a move. Only an idiot would think otherwise.

Neither can I, he's injured till March now and would be cup tied in the CL but if we do get him, then Wenger will probably try and convert him into a forward player like RVP was for us.

Wouldn't surprise me if we did buy him come summer, getting him now wouldn't make any sense for us as he wouldn't be able to play anytime soon due to his torn tendon injury from what I have read about him.

I think Mr W will get him in the summer for us, wouldn't be surprised if some sort of agreement was in place already!

A list of corrections for you.

Podolski gets moved between wide left and upfront, Rosicky joined as mostly a left winger or number 10, Wenger pushed him into the centre and further back.

Rosicky came as a central attacking midfielder. Wenger started playing him on the left until he experienced all of his injury problems.

Gervinho was played as a lone striker or wide left, changing it pretty randomly, dropping Giroud(when also in form) to play Gervinho upfront instead which every time saw us play worse.

Gervinho mainly played up front at the beginning of last season, before Giroud was in any kind of form  and to be fair to Gervinho he still chipped in with a few goals early on in the season

Reyes and Wiltord were both bought as strikers and got pushed consistently back to play wide left/right respectively. Vela is a striker who is good enough to play wide, it's not his best position but Sociedad operate on a budget of 40mil a year and have more strikers than wide players. Arshavin was a flat out number 10, very central, and basically never started there for Arsenal.

Vela was simply not good enough at Arsenal. No way was he going to play up front ahead of Van Persie, Eduardo and dare I say it, Bendtner. Vela also showed he didn't have much to offer on the left wing for us. He just couldn't cope in the EPL. Glad we got rid.

You're right about Arshavin.

Then he at times for no reason even though the players were clearly incredibly uncomfortable in said position played Bendtner, Eboue, Walcott at left wing for no apparent reason.

I think you meant right wing. they hardly ever played on the left, probably a couple of times each.

As for successes, the full story on Henry is that from age like 5 till 18 or something he was a brilliant out and out striker, guess who made him a winger, Wenger, while at Monaco. he struggled at Juve because they thought they were buying a brilliant goal scoring winger and got a meh winger. Wenger merely fixed his earlier mistake in trying to make him a winger, shoved him back up top and boom great striker.

Are you making things up again?

Kolo toure was an all around player, but most of his initial games were at defensive midfield or right back... which are hardly a million miles away from CB. Doesn't really matter where you play him, he'll eventually bomb forwards and try and score :p

Arteta was a box to box midfielder when he joined Everton, he was their DM long before he left Everton.

Song was brought as a striker, then AM, then DM, then RB, then CB then back to his least offensive(not attacking, as in least offensive to the term footballer) DM position.

Kolo hardly played as DM.....

yeah and Song was awful at DM wasn't he. Plus he hardly ever played centre half or right back, only when needed to fill in for injuries and suspensions.

So the success stories are, fixed Henry's position after his earlier horrendously stupid error, put Kolo in the position he was clearly built for and let Moyes turn Arteta into a DM? That is a heck of a lot of success with his grand "must change everyone's position" scheme of his.

No mention of putting Flamini in at left back during the 06 season? turning Lauren from midfielder to being a very good right back?

How many up and coming players have Utd bought from Spurs, conversely how many have Spurs bought from Utd recently?

How many players did Utd buy from Arsenal when Arsenal were actually chasing titles? How many players have Utd bought from Chelsea, Real, Barca, Bayern? Very few big name players move between the very top tiers of clubs, it almost never happens.

Dortmund are losing players left right and centre, while they won a couple titles and play some great football, they are being picked apart because they aren't a top tier 140mil + wages a year club, they can't compete yearly with Bayern, as such top tier clubs can buy who they want from Dortmund, Dortmund can not buy who they want from top tier clubs.

The extremely rare number of times this happens is either falling out(Beckham/stam/etc), or INSANE money, 80mil + and also a player who wants to go back almost home or to his favourite club, even then it usually only happens with Real because of their "must outspend everyone" mentality.

How often do Bayern scout and buy from, Real, Barca, Juve players? I wasn't making an analogy of Utd, I was simply pointing out which clubs buy which players. I wasn't comparing Utd to Dortmund, but pointing out that bigger clubs buy from smaller clubs, not from as big clubs, or very very rarely.

Utd bought Kagawa, not Muller or Ribery or Robben...... there was a reason for that, they could get Kagawa, they could not get Muller, Ribbery or Robben.

Almost never happens? Ozil to Arsenal. Tevez to Juventus. Ibra to whoever he signs for. Yaya to Man City. Van Persie to Man Utd. Yeah, never happens at all does it?!

That's just off the top of my head without any real thought.

This is what im thinking, from reading around Draxler coming to us now wouldnt help us as he is out through injury as it is. But then equally if we wait till the summer then his buyout clause kicks in which i think is around £40mill+.

Personally i dont think we need another AM in all honesty, we have enough in our squad as it is unless Wenger is looking to ditch one of them. What he should be doing is trying to get a striker on loan till the end of the season, that would make sense imho. Then come the summer, go all out and get a truly world class forward/striker in ie Diego Costa from AM would be an awesome acquisition for us.

Spurs? 2 maybe what's the relevance?

Players rarely move between Arsenal/Chelsea/United because they are normally competing with each other and it sends out the wrong message. Same with Real/Barca/Bayern they rarely do business with eachother because they are competing.

You say he's an idiot for going after title chasing players but then say he should be trying to sign the very best, which is it because from where I'm sitting they are the same thing.

If you can give me a list of these top tier players he should be going for that aren't at a top club already, then you should probably be in the scouting game instead of posting conflicting posts on a forum.

Like I've already said, he was at the Juve game because he was apparently looking at the Genoa defender, not Pogba, not Vidal who is plastered in Juve tattoos and obviously loves the club, what you have done is fall into the media hype BS trap of believing everything you read.

Very true, I also think a striker on loan now should be more important as is the world class striker in the summer. Plus the assists Ozil and Co would provide are exciting!:)

He must have an awful winger considering he won the Young French player of the year award in 96 with Monaco and also scored 7 goals in the Champions league for Monaco when they reached the semi finals.

You really do talk utter **** at times

You're right about Arshavin.

The only thing you have right is I genuinely couldn't remember which way around Rosicky was, came as a left winger and was pushed into the middle, or the other way around.

I did mean left wing, they didn't get played there often but they were terrible and Wenger continued to do it when he had other choices. Not sure what your point on Gervinho was, I said when Giroud WAS starting to hit form Wenger dropped him again, didn't say anything about the beginning of the season, nor does it change my point, he randomly changed him between left wing and up front. He's not a lone striker and has never been one, he's crap there, he plays almost exclusively down the left for Roma and has found his form again..... the point is playing him in a stupid position he wasn't built for, upfront, which we shouldn't have as he's crap there.

Vela was not good enough for Arsenal, yet when he played he was good. Go back and see how many minutes he played, it was effectively none, I think in Wenger's most generous season he had 2 league starts or something, he got 1 goal. He got 10 mins here and there 12 times in the first season miles apart with no match fitness. YOu categorically can't say someone wasn't good enough if they literally didn't get to play. In his 3 starts for West brom he had 2 goals and 1 assist. You can't score or assist from the bench, the second Vela was playing at West brom or Sociedad or Mexico, he played well. When he was used in the cup, he played excellently.

5 goals 3 assists in 6 cup games in his first year, 1 goal 2 assists in 3 cup games his second year. When he played he was good, he just wasn't being played.

Henry being made a winger by Wenger at monaco is widely known, but thanks for using your lack of knowledge to accuse me of making something up, stay classy.

Kolo hardly played at DM, where did I say he played there loads?

As for the other success stories, Lauren played and won the Supercopa with Mallorca against Barcelona.... at right back. We bought him as a defender primarly and he played occasionally to cover injured players in midfield, I can't find out what position he played for Cameroon in their olympic win before he joined but I suspect it will be fullback or DM. So no, not another successful change.

Likewise, FLamini..... playing him at left back caused him to leave the club, where he left to be successful in his actual position for years at Milan, where he came back to play successfully at Arsenal...... Had Wenger never played him at left back we may have had him at Arsenal all these years being better than anyone we've had in the meantime......... again I would struggle to call that successful.
