January Transfer Window 2017/18

Mahrez would be a good signing for Liverpool if Coutinho goes. Wonder how much they are paying for him.

I wouldn't be paying more than £40m. He goes missing in quite a few games then suddenly has a couple of decent games then goes missing again. No consistency and Klopp will expect more from him than he's giving Leicester.
 
Mahrez alone, assuming there's anything in the links, wouldn't be enough to replace Coutinho. If we went for him he'd effectively be replacing the cover/competition Coutinho provides in our front 3 - we'd still need to bring somebody else in midfield.
 
Southampton being linked with a Monaco striker who had netted something like 15 goals in the last 2.5 seasons. Seems like just what we need to sort our season out, another goal a month striker. If we get about 12 of them, we might get enough theoretical goals in the side and just have to figure out how to rotate them all in to get all the goals.

I said all summer that it would take a monumental fee to force Liverpool to sell - this is probably £20m more than what even I thought it would take.

The fee is what it is though and how much we've got will be reflected in how much we have to pay to sign replacements.
 
So we must be getting some one in, we can not let him go now and just risk seeing what happens, I can't see Monaco selling so I suspect mahrez coming

Coutinho's really kicked on in the last 18 months. You could see at the start of last season that he went onto another level, regularly scoring and assiting and it was only the injury around November/December that set him back. He took a few weeks to get up and running after his injury but then finished the season making things look easy. I made a tongue in cheek comment in the summer about him tearing up the league and it's no surprise that he's kicked on again, scoring and assisting even more frequently than last season.

Time will tell whether this fee proves to be a lot or not but Coutinho has all the ability in the world and he's just reaching the stage in his career where he's starting to mature and really make the most of it. It'll be interesting to see Messi's reaction when Coutinho has one of those days where he keeps shooting from 25 yards though.
 
Gutted that he appears to be going, brilliant player but excellent fee! Hopefully we can strengthen well with that cash. I will miss the flair, the dribbles, the shots, the link up play. :(
