January Transfer Window 2017/18

The "ITK"s are hinting somethings done. Unfortunately i also think big Phil is on his way to Spain.
The same ****s who claimed it was done in the summer have suddenly heard something the moment a journalist reports that it's close. Well I never!

As for Coutinho, like I said earlier in the thread, a January move just doesn't add up for me. He'll be cup tied in the CL and Barca are walking La Liga - why pay a premium to sign him in January? Again though, if we are genuinely in for Lemar and the VvD stuff is legit then you'll have to assume that something has been agreed for Coutinho if not for January but the summer.

As above we have heard all this about dijk before until its on our website as fun as it is to get caught up in it all, it's ******** until we announce anything official.

Lemar rumour sparked up again same time too

Yeah but I think it's a good buy really, he seems to be the only defender Klopp wants.
I said in the summer, he's perfect for us. Signing a world class CB wasn't enough for us because we play a very particular way, we needed a world class CB with the attributes to play in our system and he's that.

A few other rags are reporting the same now so it appears that there's some substance to the story, I'd hazard a guess that headline figure includes a fair bit in performance related add-ons though. None of these stories are coming from Liverpool based journo's though which isn't a surprise given what happened in the summer.

Baz come on don't fall for the likely to be true or something in it, this is all same dijk stuff that happened previous window
No it's not. Last time it was all the Liverpool based journo's saying VVD wanted to join Liverpool when no deal with Southampton had been agreed. Now we have all the journo's close to Southampton reporting that a deal between the clubs is all but done.

Now a Liverpool based journo has commented. Paul Joyce has just tweeted that the deal will be announced tonight - had his medical today and will join on the 1st.

edit: and now Simon Hughes. Looks like it's legit this time.

Huge signing but a lot of money and pressure to perform, lets see how the average goals conceeded pans out for the rest of the season.

He's a solid centre half, but £75 million? Bonkers.

Either way it's a good signing for Liverpool considering their current central defensive options.

The fee's mad, even with the inflated market we're in but he's more than solid. We're a club run by bean counters and forever pulling out of deals that don't represent 'value'. To be willing to pay more than twice our previous transfer record (discounting Keita) on a CB shows not just how good he is but how important he could be to us. We could sign a 25 year old John Terry or Carragher and they'd make little to no difference to our defence - we might defend the odd set play better but the other 95% of the game our defence would be no better. We needed a top quality CB that can play a high line, defend large spaces, good in one on one situations and be able to play out of the back. VVD can do all of that and to top it off he's great in the air too.

Despite all that, VVD isn't going to transform our defence single handedly. Given the way we play we're always going to get exposed but in VVD we've now got a CB much more suitable to defending these situations.
