January Transfer Window 2017/18

Sanchez is undergoing his medical tonight, presentation likely tomorrow.

Edit: medical might actually be tomorrow now too.

Let's be honest, any money from the transfer would just have disappeared into Kroenke's pocket anyway, so it makes no difference to the fans if there was a fee or not

From a technical point of view I suspect they'll be individual deals with the fees being identical. I'm not sure this deal is bigger than when Liverpool swapped Josemi for Kromkamp though.

You could be right but Ornstein said no money involved (fat chance with Raiola though, let's be honest).

No cash has to change hands, between the clubs at least but from an accounting point of view I'm sure it will be recorded as two separate deals and some sort of value will have been placed on both deals. Mikhi is worth approx £21m on Utd's books - it wouldn't surprise me if officially speaking Utd sold him to Arsenal for £21m and bought Sanchez for £21m so that Utd don't record a big loss on his transfer in this set of accounts and instead just carry on writing that £21m down over another 5 years or however long Sanchez's contract is.

I suppose the point here is that it's a swap in terms of cost. So instead of Mkhitaryan plus cash, Woodward has managed to get Sanchez for the same price (in effect). Not a bad deal at all for us. Mkhitaryan has basically done nothing all season, sadly. Mourinho is partly to blame, his handling of him from the day he joined has been bizarre.

Had you paid cash on top of Mkhitaryan then you'd have been mad but then again if the reported wages and signing on fees are true, you're probably mad anyway. Sanchez is a more talented player but he's worth nothing in a matter of months - valuing them at the same is probably slightly generous to Arsenal. As soon as Utd have convinced Sanchez to sign then you've got Arsenal over a barrel and you could have squeezed them on the fee. Would you have really struggled to pick up £30m odd of Mkhitaryan had you sold him separately? The only reason imo why Utd have accepted a straight swap is for the certainty it brings - they don't have to worry about finding a buyer for Mkhitaryan and face the possibility of paying his wages for another 6 months if a deal doesn't happen now.

I liked mhiki but like has been said with Jose it wasn't going to work. will be interesting to see how he turns out at arsenal.
