January Transfer Window 2017/18

wenger doesn't utilise him properly hes not a defensive mid!

Hes got the most accurate passing statistic in the league very very rarely makes a bad pass

What exactly are you basing that on? He plays as the more defensive and deeper midfielder, meaning he has one of the highest pass rates to our back four in general and does WAY more sideways/backwards passing than forwards passing, that automatically ups your passing stats. Most importantly he isn't at all the most accurate passer in the league, Wilshere who plays much more offensively, makes far more creative/difficult/forward passes and does so in tighter spaces much more often has a higher pass completion ratio than Xhaka this season, as does Koscielny and many many other players in the league.

Pass completion is pretty pointless though, the highest in the team is very often the CB who plays plays it out most often or the defensive mid who makes the less attacking/risky passes which is why Stones at City has the highest pass completion in the league right now.

To add to that, Jones has a 96% pass completion rate, Xhaka has a pass completion of 84% and if ranked by people who have played 5 games or more, he's 70th most accurate passer in the league, behind both Koscielny, Elneny, Wilshere and Ramsey, of which the last two make much much more dangerous passes. If you don't limit it by game he's like 96th but that includes subs or keepers who have made like 5 passes total and some who have a 100% pass completion.

Actually with 5 games Stones is second, Nahki Wells is 1st with a 100% completion rate but in 5 games he managed exactly 9 passes, Stones has a 96% completion rate with 1024 passes. You also have to reach the 182nd player to have played 5 games or more before you get someone with a pass completion below 80%, that is just to give an idea about how many players achieve that. For a less attacking midfielder/defender, 84% is nothing, if you filter the stats by forwards you immediately get a huge drop off in pass percentage for most, Frimino 72%, Giroud 69%, Sanchez 73%, etc, etc.

Is Sanchez really going to get the blame for Arsenal's woes? Arsenal have been like this for the past decade, permanently destabilised.

And you'll possibly have Aubameyang soon, who has caused Dortmund a lot of trouble, far more than Sanchez did for Arsenal.
He isn't blamed but the players wanted him gone and there were reported arguments with the players, so yeah he did cause issues. So that sort of person CAN be a negative influence.

He is gone now, so looking forward to the fresh start. Time will tell if it was a good or bad thing.

Well judging from the Palace game, it seems like the players we had showed some spirit due to Sanchez being dumped out of the team.

Who knows what really went on behind the scenes but one thing is for certain, we will miss Sanchez and his ability to turn a game on its head. But I’m also relieved he is gone now, we can get on with trying to salvage what’s left of our season and maybe win the eulolpa league and/or the crapabao Cup:p.

That lays at the managers doorstep if that were true. He should have nipped things like that in the bud or got rid. SAF would never let a player be bigger than the club and I would have thought Wenger being old guard would be the same.

You must be kidding, Palace defended like a suicidal league 2 team. Utterly utterly awful for every Arsenal goal at the weekend. Come back at the end of the season and see how that "spirit" is doing. Arsenal have always been a team capable of blowing massively hot and cold, their issue is their mental toughness when things aren't going their way. Sanchez was one of the only fighters in that team.

So Roy Keane wasn't box-to-box?

Yea he was.

I guess it's a meaningless term in reality as there where DM midfields in the league prior to Vieira. (Ince for example)

But I think the difference was the breed. Viera was regarded as a player that had everything. Strong, tall, athletic, good defender and could set up attacks.

in all honestly i rather we fail hard this season finishing 6th or worse.

Why?

Because i reckon that if we finish badly, wenger will go.

Wenger is the person we need to get rid of more then any other player in our squad and wished he went instead of Sanchez.

Ancehlotti is available so if wenger gets the sack, we can grab him. If he stays beyond next season, Anchelotti would have been snapped up by someone else and where back to square one with no decent replacement

You think Wenger doesn't want to do any better? You think that he is the reason you aren't competitive in the league anymore. Not the owners who control the spending...

Wenger is still the Arsenal manager because he is doing well for the amount that he spends compared to the other teams at the top of the league.

Ancelotti won't touch Arsenal with a barge pole at the moment. Like every top manager, he will want a lot of money to spend and when he is told in the first meeting that he can't spend much he will run for the hills.

Alexis Sanchez: "It's my dream to join Manchester United"

Reporter: "You've said in the past your dream was to join FC Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester City.."

Alexis Sanchez: "I have lots of dreams"

:D:D

On a more serious note, been reading that Giroud will be joining Dortmund on a 6mth loan as he’s been promised a starting place. Been told by the national french coach that he needs to start more in order to make the World Cup squad. So kinda make sense for him to go Dortmund and try to secure his spot for the WC squad.

So with that being said, looks like Auba is on his way as Dortmund didn’t want to let Auba go before securing a player to take over his spot in the squad.

Auba is meant to be in London tomo and thurs to complete the transfer.

Could be all BS for all we know but found it interesting to read though.

I assume you've seen the picture of Sanchez wearing a Man Utd jacket, from about 10 years ago. Nobody dreams of playing for Man City, let's not kid ourselves. :p

I am actually looking forward to seeing Aubameyang playing for Arsenal, I do rate him, could be a top signing.

What happened to him. A few years ago pretty much all the top clubs were linked with him and he was easily one of the most in demand strikers in the world.

He's a nutcase, essentially. :p

Nah, but he seems to have a number of issues when it comes to discipline etc. There certainly must be something to it as none of the big teams have moved for him or shown much interest recently.

I also think there are concerns about his age, Aubameyang is a player who relies on his physical attributes, his pace and his explosiveness, at 29 it will only be a couple of years before that starts to fade.

I think Dortmund managed to hold onto him long enough to put most big clubs off, where as for us he represents one last toss of the dice.

Arsenal will keep him for a couple of years and then flog him to some gullible Northern club just as he's starting to go past his best ;)

I think he was holding out for RM, since it was increasingly likely that RM wouldn't be moving for him and going for someone like Kane instead, you can see why he's reviewed his options. Still could get his move to RM if he sets the PL alight I suppose.

I didn't realise he was so old, I thought he was still 25 or so. Surprised figures like £60m+ are being bandied around in that case. Sounds like he could be trouble and is unproven in the PL. He was great a few years ago but I haven't really followed him recently. If hes in similar form he would be a good buy.
