January Transfer Window 2019/20

There was an article a little while back discussing why Liverpool didn't move for Keita or Mane when they were at Salzburg, stating that they weren't confident that their scouting model and how they analyse players could be used to assess players in the Austrian League. I wonder just how much that's changed - have they tweaked their systems to be better analyse players in poorer leagues or is it simply a case that we're in a stronger position to be able to take a calculated gamble? If Minamino flops, it won't be the end of the world as ultimately he's only coming in to supplement an already strong squad.

Probably changed but even in his games versus us minamino certainly doesn't look likely to flop

Just going back to something you mentioned earlier I actually see him being cover for Bobby more than Salah/mane.

Excluding highlights on YouTube and the match's against us I haven't seen anything else of him but some of his flicks and his work rate was very firmino like

We wouldn't be signing him on the back of two games vs us. I'm sure the club have scouted him thoroughly and I'd guess the number of players that have graduated from Salzburg to Leipzig and beyond has helped the club fine tune their analysis of players in Austria. That said, the fact that we're not desperately in need of an attacker makes taking these decisions much easier.

As for where he plays, I won't pretend to be an expert on him but from the games I've seen of him he looks more like Mane than Firmino or Salah. We don't need a direct replacement for any one of our front line though. We've seen Bobby play both as a 9, 10 and off the left, Salah's played on the right and through the middle and Mane's played right across the front line. Their flexibility means that Minamino will effectively cover all 3, regardless of where his best position is.

Seems like Xhaka is on his way out, supposedly agreed terms with Hertha Berlin in Germany.
Not sure what the fee is or will be but pretty certain he will be gone by Jan.

Kinda glad we are getting rid of him, after the stunt he pulled a few mths back and subsequently the captaincy was taken off him.

Pretty damning for Woodward in particular. Terrible transfer dealings
Typical woodward until hes gone united will struggle on the pitch need midfielders but wont get any until next season if were lucky knowing with him though

I agree, don't see the huge deal really. Rashford, Martial and Greenwood are fine. We need more creative midfielders and a defensive mid.
For £20m Haaland would be a much better foil for Rashford than Martial.

To be fair to all at OLd Trafford, Solskjaar was quoted as saying there would be no major signings in January. As far I as I remember United don’t tend to do much tinkering mid season.

Would he? Based on a few games in the CL?

"Sorry Greenwood, i know youve played well recently but this fella is playing now because hes done well in a poor league"

Surely youd rather see Greenwood given a shot?

Considering some of the numbers being banded about for Haaland for him to go for such a low figure is surprising. Mind you talk is €10m to his dad and another €15m to Raiola as well as the transfer fee. Which is absolutely mind blowing. I think I need to be a football agent.

Exactly. His wages will be mad aswell which then messes up the wage structure...again. Dodged a bullet imo

Dortmund are a sensible club so I doubt his wages are that extreme. Will be interesting to see how he develops in Germany. Much better league but he will have a much better team around him. Wasn't 100% convinced by him but for £18m he can't be that bad a deal.
