Japanese Grand Prix 2010, Suzuka - Race 16/19

Its also amazing to think that Hamilton has had 2 DNF's and a broken car (in a row), yet he is still in the title hunt. Hamilton has had a great season.

or the RB's a terrible one. Hamiltons season hasnt been stellar.

i also totaly forgot he won at spa :p

For me, Hamilton is the driver of the year, so far, with Alonso in 2nd, Button 3rd and Kubica 4th.

I know he hasn't converted them well but Vettels record on slapping out laps worthy of pole position is pretty amazing imo. Button 3rd? he's been nothing but average with an amazing car, people seem to be giving him far too much credit based on last years result!

Of course.

Vettel is their No.1 driver...No.1 driver almost always gets preference. This is completely the right thing to do from the perspective of a team. For me, Vettel is RBR's best chance of winning the title.

Unless they want to gift Alonso the title, RBR/McLaren, must get behind their No.1 drivers and do everything they can to ensure they get the maximum points possible..

Well no that's not true because if they wanted to make sure they won the title they would have had Vettel have an issue and had Webber get ahead of him in the race. They would then have extended Webbers lead even further over the Mclarens/Ferrari and that would have been even better for the championship.

Red Bull don't care about best chances to win the title, only Vettels chances to win the title. If they had left Webber alone instead of pulling tricks with Vettel and moved him ahead in the last race the title would be over right now and red bull would be on the verge of celebrating their first titles.

As regards top 3 this year so far for me.

Alonso, Hamilton, Webber.

Webber for me has made a better job of beating his team mate than Button this year. Button has shown he's far from average but not done enough for me in the 2nd part of the year.

Alonso had a terrible car to start the year and loads of reliability problems and was nowhere at silverstone in the championship. Ferrari will really regret leaving Massa to hold him up early doors this season when the points all shake out.

In a car 0.5+ of a second consistently faster than the rivals, the only amazing thing about Vettel and poles is his inability to turn them into wins and stop his team mate turning one into a win.

He should be getting pole every race, the car has a huge advantage over his rivals. I can't wait until next year when he's crying next year while they have to get through Kers teething problems that Mclaren and Ferrari had to weather in 2009.

So are they going back on the KERS agreement next year? that'll be very interesting.

Unfortunately Vettel counts for little. However, it does does have "ego" value. Had he been driving the same car as Hamilton or Alonso, I doubt he would've got anywhere near the amount of pole positions this year. Webber is an average driver and by rights he should not be anywhere near Vettel in the points standings. Vettel is superior to Webber in pretty much every single area, yet is behind in the point standings. Vettel has been unlucky, but had Hamilton or Alonso been team-mates with Vettel, the title race would probably have been over by now.

Webber was hired to back-up Vettel. Vettel was hired to win the title(s) in the fastest car on the grid. Given the current WDC standings, Vettel has seriously under performed this year.

Button has moved to a brand new (Hamilton's) team. He has driven alongside arguably the fastest driver F1 has seen in a long time (probably since Senna/Mansell), but has not been humiliated. In the points standings he isn't far off Hamilton. He has been the perfect back-up for Hamilton and has never failed the team in what he was hired to do. For me, Button's best season was in 2004, when he beat everybody, except for the super Ferraris, while his 2nd best season is 2010.

whats the FOTA punishment if you turn up with kers?

mclaren probably would be championship favorites easy by now if they turned up with kers at the half way mark

Is Whitmarsh not the chairman of FOTA? Probably this is the main reason why they didn't unleash KERS on their opponents. Hopefully, next year they will equip their cars with KERS and humiliate the opposition.

Why was there an agreement not to use KERS this year?

Why d'you think? The top two cars in '09 (the BGP001 and RB5) didn't have it. That ought to tell you everything about the KERS situation really. Ah, but of course - this is sunama I'm talking to....

It added virtually nothing to the show in 2009. Just once, it held an obvious advantage (when Kimi grabbed the lead at Spa). Only McLaren were able to regularly gain a semi-meaningful benefit from it (mostly because their car was a bit poor to begin with, and they had Hamilton). It made sense to leave it out of the sport for a while.

When it comes back, get ready for Hamilton to dominate.

Davidson tweeted earlier this week about the steering wheels being even more complicated next year, with the adjustable front and rear wings and KERS making a return.

Don't like the moveable aero, haven't done since they announced it in 2008. Especially don't like the moveable rear wing.

Not allowed to use it in the first 2 laps, and after that they can only use it when they are within a second of the driver in front, and the system will be disabled when they step on the brakes for the after the system is enabled.

But, they'll only be timed at certain points so it'll only be active in certain points. Hopefully the drivers will be able to activate the front and rear wings together to keep the aero balance right, otherwise you could end up with cars all over the place at the hairpins at the end of long straights.

Hateful system.

I have to agree there, it really is a case, that compared to the greats, Lewis is very much like Senna/Mansell, and Button makes a very good Prost. Coming into a new team, and picking up the baton as quickly as he did, went a long way to prove that he is not a one trick pony as many people labelled him, and his years of driving a 'development' car (BAR/Honda) will prove a valuable asset to McLaren in years to come, assuming he stays with them which I hope he will, I am still loving having an all british team.

Lets be honest, they kept Jenson out to back up the red bulls to aid Hamilton. Then Hamilton got a mechanical problem and it wrecked their strategy.

I would have the biggest smile in the world if they chucked KERS back in the car for the last few races, but it aint happening.

Yeah I would laugh as well. I honestly don't see how the other teams are hoping to live with Mclaren and Ferrari next year. To be honest Mclaren and Ferrari deserve it for investing that money and time the last time Kers was introduced.

Next year they should reap the benefit.

Hamilton has a year advantage over almost everyone else using it. Makes it even easier to dominate his team mate next year.

Not liking the moveable aero rules at all, why does F1 also go for the complicated solutions when the simple would do?

Moveable aero should give more things for a driver to do within the ****-pit. This will allow drivers the possibility of making more errors. It will also reward drivers who are on top of their game.

People like Hamilton (who are very fast at pressing buttons) should be able to eek out a little extra during qualifying and the races with the extra buttons/adjustments available.

If McLaren can release a half decent car next year, Hamilton should win the title by a good margin. But hey lets not talk about next year, when we have 3 more rounds of this year's championship to go.

Lets have manual gearboxes and clutches again. :D

Missing gears, fluffing the start... Joy!
