Leaving track limits to gain an advantage would then apply, which also comes with a penalty. He clearly gained an advantage as he missed an apex and would have lost the place if he had slowed to make it.

So according to the rules, the points distribution for shorter race distances applies if the race didn't resume. It seems it did, so we've got full points...so Max Verstappen appears to be a two-time world champion! This confusion sums the day up, doesn't it?

I think we have to be careful in determining what are the rules, and then just blindly following what Sky commentators are telling us on the fly.

We are almost pretty sure that Max Verstappen isn't world champion because the race did not get to full points. We haven't done more than 75% race distance. It's not full points. That is where the confusion lies.

So, it seems Verstappen is champion. The regs say staggered points only comer in "if a race is suspended in accordance with Article 57, *and cannot be resumed*". The race was resumed, so the FIA says that means it's full points.

Suspect these regs will need clarifying again after this
