Looks like production of the next firmware version of the 360 is starting http://cens.com/cens/html/en/news/news_inner_23301.html.

Jasper is replacing the current Falcon models, and will hopefully make RROD a thing of the past :)
Basically (for those that cant be arsed to read the link) Jasper is a 65nm Graphics chip & Northbridge, along with a new motherboard and the existing 65nm Falcon CPU.

Cool, I didn't know MS were going to introduce another big revamp of the 360, especially so soon. Sounds promising then.

Unless they are silent then don't bother MS...

Well hopefully, as the chips should run cooler it will make a little difference :)
Although, they will hopefully change the noisy DVD drives (the main noise culprit) - and yeah I don't believe or subscribe to the thought that it will contain a internal Blu-Ray

I thought RROD was already a thing of the past?

The problem still being DVD drives, though I haven't heard of the BenQ's scratching discs I reckon it still happens to some.

I'm on my first Falcon and it hasn't died but I have only had it a month. But again I'm pretty sure the falcon has sorted this out. The reason for "Jasper" is to lower cost production mainly. But more efficient, so less heat is a bonus really.

If only they'd have ditched non-hdd consoles in the range and allowed HDD installs.

agreed. i would have kept my xbox360 if it wasnt for the noise of it. i know its only a minor fault, but i kept getting moaned at by the girlfriend when she was trying to sleep and i was playing the xbox. :/ if it was quieter, i probably would have kept it, and not got a ps3.

RQoD will always exist until MS stop using the torsion method to apply pressure on the heatsink.

agreed, the BGA chips and more specifically the solder balls on them cannot handle torsional twisting forces, either move the chips onto a separate substrate or reduce the direct pressure
