Joe Rogan and Spotify

That isn't what he said. He said why would they bother studying us which is a ****** take since we study all kinds of insects, plants and bacteria. We also have robots searching for microbes on Mars lol

Can't you read between the lines? Can you imagine how bored he is of being asked this stupid question again and again? We haven't been visited by aliens and if we had they wouldn't be crashing on Earth. If there is intelligent life out there then I'm sure there are far more exciting places to visit than this fairly boring part of the galaxy.

Why would this part of the galaxy be boring?

Maybe they have some richard attenborough types amongst them and are banging out some quality 'life on earth' style documentaries :p

Yeah, I think it's obvious to most people he just had a poor take on UFOs and aliens. You're also now just giving your opinion from the UFO thread rather than defending his.

Because it is. There is next to nothing here except us. If there is intelligent life out there then its likely its more than just us and one other. Imagine how much more exciting it is near the galactic centre or in areas of galaxy where new stares are being born.

The Earth is located in the Solar System, and the Solar System is located about 25,000 light-years away from the core of the galaxy. This also means that we’re about 25,000 light-years away from the outer edge of the Milky Way. We’re located in the Orion Spur, which is a minor arm located in between the two major galactic arms.

this is way off topic though.

You aren't changing their minds on a Joe Rogan podcast. What they believe is totally irrational and you aren't reaching the irrational with rational arguments. Its like an atheist trying to convince someone who believes in a god. Its faith to these people now.

What does happen though is every time either deluded or liars speak to the gullible they recruit some of them to their CT nonsense. Its the brexit principle.

I dunno, I'd think it would be pretty exciting to watch a civilisation on the brink of space exploration - you'd also have to expect any alien species capable of visiting us are already visiting more 'exciting' parts of the galaxy in addition to visting boring old us no?

It is yes

I see... so it's only "bad" to clip out specific parts of a podcast that remove context and portray things a certain way when it's damaging to the speaker you most agree with? But it's fine when (as is done time and time again) the exact same thing is done to the "nutjob" guests (and Joe himself) to cherry pick out the bits that make them seem most extreme so the Twitter-verse of commentators who haven't even listened to the whole podcast can get all up in arms over it?

(I don't mean this to sound particularly aggressive towards you specifically, it's just the general sentiment you see around from people and it seems a bit of a double standard - and it's very telling especially when people come out with the impression that Joe is fully on-board and supporting the views of this guest or that, because if you actually listen to the podcast you'd see that he really doesn't)

I don't understand who has the spare time , or inclination to listen to 1hr+ of Joe Rogan, you'd want someone else to precis it (like PM question time, or, court cases) to provide some kind of intellectual density,
twitter provides that - if there are extreme bits well it's generally representative of the entire contents.

You'll note sir, that the members of this very forum who are the most pro-Trump/pro-Musk/pro-Joe basically exclusively come on this forum to post in GD.

Where did I say its fine to clip a show that takes someone out of context? You've just created that out of know where.

Joe Rogan gets to chose how the clips are made and posted. He is the one with reach. How other people may clip his show is irrelevant. As many have said in the thread its an entertainment show, its job is to generate clicks and get Spotify signups. They will be looking for any gotcha moments, any moments the Dr might look like he's thrown off by Kennedy even if he isn't. Do you think he's offering $100k because he cares about the facts? He just knows it will drive traffic and he'll make that back and then some.

Debating someone who just makes stuff up is pointless. One person deals in facts and science that is peer reviewed, the other in conspiracy theories and any study that shows their belief is wrong is simply Big Pharma faking data and the scientists/doctors are on Big Pharma payroll. You can't win.

Joe said on that video that he is now on board with Kennedy's beliefs on the covid vaccine.

I work on my own and listen to podcasts or audio books all day. Though it has to be an exceptional guest to get me to listen to a 3 hour one. Lex Fridman has some good guest but I find him so dull to listen to and his "lets just all love each other" attitude is annoying to say the least. Sam Harris does long form interviews and some are really good, couldn't be further from Joe Rogan style though and he will challenge someone if he thinks what they are saying is wrong or dishonest, he obviously has the knowledge and intellect to do it though. Its a completely different audience to Joe.

I didn't say you said that, the twitter thread that you linked to did though (it was part of "how it would go" - people would cut out parts of the pod out of context to make the Prof look bad etc. etc.)

And I don't think how others clip the show is irrelevant, it's the foundation of most of the criticism against him/the show a lot of the time. I don't disagree with you that he's trying to drive traffic and entertain, of course he is, but the two aren't mutually exclusive; at some level he does/will/has stood up for things that have been aired on the show and been shown to be untrue (even taking down whole episodes over it)

You're probably right about the debating itself, it would probably be better to simply have this other guy on the podcast on his own so that it doesn't descend into bickering (although I will say that the episode I mention earlier with the pro + anti vegan debate was reasonably civil and I remember Joe doing a decent job with it despite the two guys getting quite heated at points)

Joe was onboard with the beliefs about covid long before this podcast. He didn't agree/support several of the other things Kennedy brought up and at points did even press slightly / question how he was able to claim certain things

Why do left leaning folk typically hate having their ideas challenged and debated so much? They must be living in a nightmare now that Twitter doesn't ban anyone that has wrong think.
lol dude you are simping for people who DGAF about your existence, and you whinge at other folk for not engaging? Not engaging is not the same as having ideas challenged.
