Joel, Jim & Jassim - Utd Ownership

No agreement has been reached for the 52-year-old to embark upon the potential switch and any move for him will not be straightforward, given he is contracted to Newcastle.

However, the situation is expected to develop rapidly, with Ashworth thought to be open to the opportunity of joining the Manchester United football structure under INEOS.

This would be great. Wasn't sure it would happen, still might not...

We need a reaction from Bigpig et al.

The FA have approved the deal now too, so I think that's everything sorted. Just a few things to finalise in relation to the shares/money between INEOS and the Glazers.

Ratcliffe is certainly showing his intent though, nicked a top guy from Man City, and only wants Ashworth as Director of Football. I think the latter would have been tricky but he's good friends with Brailsford...

Things are certainly looking up.

Has Dan Ashworth really done that well at Newcastle for United to go overboard in getting him in?

He's not been there that long, but he's considered the best in the business (more or less). Man Utd is a different sort of beast entirely to somewhere like Brighton, so success isn't a given, but he's probably the obvious choice... especially considering his existing relationship with Brailsford.

He's a very good sporting director and it's a huge loss for Newcastle if he leaves.

When he joined two years ago, there were a lot of Newcastle fans who said he would be their most important appointment for years to come.

The news isn’t new so not a shock.

He’s probably the best English DOF but he’s not in control of Newcastle transfers. I believe Newcastle have system in place where they vote on deals. Steve Nickson for example has been the driving force behind Bruno and Botman. Took two windows to land Botman due to the asking by price in January but talks were well in place before Dan joined.

He go to Manu with probably more control over transfers than he has at Newcastle. He’s more of the facilitator at Newcastle.

I don’t think there’s a better man to go into Manu and try and sort out the culture and attitude that seems to be plaguing them. Which seems to be his specialty.

This seems to be the case of Manu need him more than Newcastle as we seem pretty open to the move as long as we receive decent compensation or else he be siting in his back garden for a year.

It’s a blow but not a major one.

Here’s a snip from one of the articles.

Since joining Newcastle from Brighton in the summer of 2022, Ashworth, according to multiple sources, has found his remit limited. Indeed, the prospect of having greater control at Old Trafford is likely to be among the key factors in deciding his future.
