Joel, Jim & Jassim - Utd Ownership

I think some sort of agreement will be reached so he can start work sooner. Gardening leave is a bit of a farce as he can just speak to Brailsford/Ratcliffe and quietly advise them in the background.

As for him staying at Newcastle, it seems like he's effectively asked to leave, no realistic way back from that... and no point keeping someone who wants to be elsewhere, especially given his role...

There's very little chance he's staying, wheels already seem to be in motion. All depends on cash now.

Can't begrudge him really. Despite their relative recent lack of success and contrary to what some of their fans on here think they are still box office and a massive draw. I'm sure he'll be missed at Newcastle and no doubt has done some great work behind the scenes but I feel there is absence of anything tangible we can say he has done or is responsible for, although difficult to judge in such a short period of time while trying to skirt around these financial rules.

None of us think United aren't box office or a massive draw. We are still one of the biggest clubs in the world and the most written about club for better or worse. Thats the only reason we haven't melted into complete obscurity under the mismanagement of the Glazers. We're **** on the pitch most of the time but that doesn't really mean as much as it should these days.

Sounds like his contract is water tight!!

Large sum of money will be needed and garden leave unless they pay huge

Thats not really how these things work. Most companies are sensible enough to realise that forcing someone to stay when they want to leave is not good and if you are seen to be a place that is hard to move on from, you might not be able to attract other top talent in the same way.

Managers leave clubs all the time with compensation. There will be a negotiation and I doubt Newcastle will be ultra stubborn. If United walk away you might have a guy who doesn't want to be there for the next X years and doesn't do as good a job as he would have. Same reason players that want to leave clubs are often sold.
