Joker (2019)

I clocked the girlfriend thing just after...

the comedy club skit, I already suspected he was fantasising but that nailed it for me then every subsequent shot it was apparent that she wasn't interacting with anyone but him.

The reveal was a bit spoon fed but we live in an MCU world. #edgey ;)

Above comment is tongue in cheek before anyone gets offended, I love the MCU films.

Thoroughly enjoyed it. Lots of little touches like when he was first beat up his water pistol flower thing squirting water out as if he was dying on the ground.

Should I read anything into it being the same guy that got Joker out of the police car being the same guy that then shot Wayne? Was trying to rack my brain as to it it was someone that was in the story somewhere.

I didn't notice either of those :o

Or they really enjoyed it and scored it to their liking.

*Shocker*

So what do you actually like about it?

Don't tell me 'Joaquin Phoenix's performance'

There is a difference between a good performance from an actor to if the actual film was any good yet some people on this forum think of them as the same thing.

Was JP performance good? Absolutely.

Was the film good? No, average at best, plot was simplistic and predictable.

Going to see this again tonight. It's not often I watch a film multiple times in the cinema (last was End Game but that was to watch the added footage - pointless) but I knew I wanted to go back for this one. Just as excited as I was the first time

Saw it at the weekend - really enjoyed it. Felt dark, felt like you were rooting for him, despite how bad he is - he felt like the victim and I like to back a victim.
The performance was great, the mood swing, the expressions. Definitely my favourite film of the year.
Going again Friday night, want a second viewing.

It was really good and yes, his performance was fantastic.

@Jokester I thought those two events happened about the same time, as such, don't think it was the same individual responsible.

Yes they did, but the Wayne’s were fleeing the trouble so I felt it was just round the corner and it certainly looked like the guy was well built and wearing the same clothing in both cases and it seemed very deliberate that he was taken out of the car and placed on the bonnet by someone.

Also the homage to Adam West’s Batman when Bruce Wayne slid down the fence pole

I think that this adds to my theory I mentioned earlier (below). It could have been done on purpose and as the person couldn't have been in two places at once, but one of those events definitely took place and we know which one.

Maybe the ambulance crash, release by the mob and him being on the bonnet loved, applauded and accepted by what he did, was just a dreamy delusion whilst he was staring out the window in the back of the cop car laughing and he actually went straight to the asylum?

@Jokester not discounting it could be the same guy, I just hadn't considered it. Good excuse to watch this masterpiece (don't anybody get triggered ;) ) again :D

@Rossi~ I really like that theory, totally in keeping with the themes of the movie.

I really enjoyed it, Phoenix was fantastic.
Seemed to end really quickly.

I was reading about people complaining that the film was too voilent.
Don't know what film they saw, sure it was dark, but the violence in it was pretty tame.

Yeah it's a sad state of affairs where people complain about realistic and shocking violence in a film like Joker - yet in a Fast & Furious type movie is absolutely fine. They're complaining about movies desensitising people to violence yet they're doing exactly that by complaining about the more realistic/shocking ones and letting the others slide. Like, duh.

Hobbs and Shaw in the first opening of the movie, the bad guy walks in and literally shots every police person in there at point blank range. Thats a Pg-13 movie?
This film depicts the little violence there is in a more realistic way,and suitably rated 18.
