im only guessing but worth a try

the usb selective suspend setting

I'll give that a go cheers. If I do need to re-overclock it do you know where I can get roughly the same settings I've had for the last year as it has been running perfectly?

ill help you with that if you want,4ghz isn't hard on a gigabyte board,i had the x58 ud5 an 920 @4.2ghz

That would be great cheers. I'll give your suggestion ago and post back. For now the bluescreens seem to have stopped but I'll run the PC for as long as possible tomorrow and see what happens. Thanks

Unfortunately disabling selective suspend has not worked. After plugging in the adapter it did successfully install drivers and I entered the WEP key but I received the no Internet access message followed by 'not connected no connections available' after plugging it in again it's now saying 'USB device not recognized' which is ultimately what I was receiving before. I cannot understand what is going on. Perhaps I'll just have to reinstall windows, my drivers and redo the overclock after all.

I decided to revert back to the 'normal' qpi/vtt setting of 1.175 and now the entire PC will not boot. It turns on for maybe 5 seconds and then just restarts. Have I just completely screwed my PC?

no its just too little qpi/vtt?

try clearing the cmos by leaving out the mb battery for 5 minutes and then try

1.315v is well within intel safe limits,i ran my chip for 3years with that voltage just fine

max safe is 1.4v although ive seen plenty run much higher without any trouble

if you want some oc settings tell me what the cpu default voltage is whilst in the bios and cpu voltage set to normal, then I can give you some settings to try

Ok I've got the battery out an will leave it there for a few minutes. In the mean time I have been mentally preparing myself for a full reinstall of everything as that now seems to be my only option. I have not been able to test the wireless adapter on another machine yet but I just cannot believe that it would fail at almost exactly the same time as me changing the qpi/vtt.

what bios version are you using? looked to see if theres a newer one on gigabytes website?

and what make/model usb wifi? might be worth ditching for another brand?

It's a Sitecom WL-172. I did perform several windows 7 updates before the problem started occurring. Could something have gone wrong there perhaps?
The BIOS version is the same one my PC shipped with. SMBIOS version 2.4 24/-1/2011

well first I would look on gigabytes website, type in your mb name and download the latest bios

extract it to a usb memory stick and press f8 or end at splash screen and flash through qflash

you might need to use @BIOS for a one off flash,i remember you had to do that to update qflash as it wont flash the 2mb and larger bios,be sure its fairly stable though if you flash within windows and @bios,if it crashes it will brick the mb and will need new bios chip

yeah choose your os and then it should show the bios updates

I could link you to latest beta bios but its best to use latest final bios for now

EDIT: when you do get it all setup and overclocked you can use @BIOS to save your bios and overclock in a custom bios file that you can use to flash with,it will have all your oc settings,or just keep it saved somewhere safe incase you need to flash it

that way if you reset the cmos or it crashes badly you wont lose any oc settings

you might need to use @BIOS program from within windows

its to do with 2mb and larger bios's

you can download the latest @BIOS from gigabyte

is your board working now with a cmos clear?

I have @BIOS already installed however I'm not sure what to do with it? There are basically 2 main options update bios from internet and update from file. Presumably I update from file and point it towards the bios update exe I have just downloaded from gigabyte however that doesn't seem to work.

I can't update from internet as my adapter isn't working and if I try update from file I get an error. Can I just double click the exe and run it?
