Just another BSOD thread.

download it from the link I posted, its the same bios as on gigabytes site

extract it you want the f4d file

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner I was just making sure I had absolutely everything backed up as things really don't seem to be going my way at the moment. I have managed to update the BIOS using the link you sent. I did it through the qflash at the splash screen however nothing seems to have changed as far as the adapter is concerned so I will try pickup another one tomorrow. Thank you for your continued support and advice I would be seriously lost without your suggestions.

My problems just do not seem to end. I decided to reinstall windows from the disk that shipped with my PC. Upon starting up the pc with the disk in the drive I did not see the 'boot from cd/dvd option' which I thought was odd. I changed the boot priority in the bios to cd drive but still nothing. Finally I unplugged the hard drive all together and upon booting received an error saying I needed to insert system disk and press enter. The dvd drive works absolutely flawlessly when I have windows up and running and it is running in windows right now as I type this. Is my dvd drive shot or can I get it running? I am aware of other ways of re-installing windows although I would have to go get a bigger usb stick but I'd first like to find out what the hell has happened to my PC. First bsod then wireless adapter breaking and now dvd drive not working - its just not my week.

You can put in the windows disc and press f12 at gigabyte splash screen then boot from dvd Rom,see if that works

Have you backed up your hdd and formatted it? I think it skips through and boots from anything with windows on it

Another thing to try is set to IDE and see if you can boot from dvd,you can always enable ahci later with a simple reg tweak

The hdd is not formatted it's still got everything loaded into it. Is there a way of formatting it without getting it to boot to windows? If not I'll try your suggestions

No you have to save everything you can off it first, onto dvd's or a spare hdd, then format it,don't format it first as you'll lose all your files, music, games ect

I have managed to get everything backed up to a spare hdd so I'll Give formatting it a go now then see if I can get it to boot straight from the windows 7 DVD. I really appreciate the help you're giving me with this wazza if I could buy you a pint I would believe me.

I do have a mac to hand and an hdd to usb adapter. If I unplug my hdd and plug it in via usb to the mac can I format it that way then reinstall it into my pc with the windows disk and install windows that way?

Scratch that I didn't even realise a mac cannot format ntfs. I have an old laptop lying around so will reinstall windows on that, plug in my current hdd using the adapater, format the drive that way, plug my hdd back into my pc and try install windows once again. I'll be here all night I think.

The problem is getting the ISO onto the hdd.
Well now that I think about it I could dl the iso on my mac transfer it onto my backup hdd then drag it from my backup hdd to my current hdd? The windows 7 disk is working when I am in windows and I did try to install that way but it kept all my old files and didn't seem to give me an option to format. I need t get my hdd formatted but cannot get the pc to boot straight from the windows cd. Thanks for the quick response Idleman much appreciated.

Can't you unplug your original hdd, plug in the spare and do clean windows install,no need to activate it and see if the WiFi works?

Keep your old hdd untouched, then no need to format,if clean install works you can backup things then,if not you'll know its the WiFi stick or something else

The problem I have is I tried to install windows straight from the cd and it installed but left 500gb+ of my original data behind. My backup hdd is 99% full with important stuff but has no operating system so if possible I don't want to play around with that one too much. I can only have the spare plugged in by usb so perhaps if I moved all my data from the backup drive to the current drive then installed windows on the backup and booted from this drive I could format the current drive using the windows disk manager as it would then not be my 'active' drive. Would I be able to boot from my backup drive via usb considering the fact I cannot seem to boot from a cd?

Idelman it is how it came from ocuk but I am not 100% sure. My C drive is a little bit short of 1tb but that was the only drive that has shown up in my computer for the last year until today. When I tried to install windows it created a drive 'E' which is 100mb.

It is around 2am here so I'm going to get some rest and dedicate my entire day tomorrow to getting this sorted. In the mean time if you have any ideas on how to get round this situation post them and I'll try them out first thing tomorrow. Thanks again guys much appreciated.
