Just dropped a deposit on some M Power - Trackday Project Car

Not on that day I didn't. On a wet day I did and I don't know why I got picked out, everybody in an FR was powersliding that day, I wasn't even doing anything outrageous.

Hi there

K&N is off, flat spot at 2500rpm gone and sounds much better. :)
K&N heat shield was quite heavy too, so more weight reduction. :D

MAF sensor cleaned.

Quick wash and spray on wax done too. :)

HI there

Tank of Vpower and a few more grams save, ashtray and cigarette lighter - GONE. :D

You should have just sold the 911 and gone for an M3 CSL! ;)

No.
On the road I have to say the 911 is simply far better in the way it communicates and feels, alive in the steering feel in comparison. Ability wise probably not a lot between them on a decent road and with time the BMW will be better track car if it's not already.

As a road car for feedback, feeling alive ad challenging the 911 is in it's own league. :)

Big difference between £25k and £7.k. :)

Yup, at which point need a warranty, 2k a year, plus slightly higher running cost.

My plan for this M3 is:-
Strip more weight out - £0
CSL alcantera steering wheel with carbon paddles - £100
Billstein or KW coil overs - £1000
3.91 rear end gears - £400
Corner weighting and coil over fitting - £400

Above should result in a CSL beating car in every aspect performance wise. :)

I thought it was generally a bad idea running harness' without a cage, basically because you're stuck in place if the roof caves in?

I'll take two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers... and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls

Exactly!

Looking forward to this thread. Hopefully you can find a 2nd hand Evolve airbox, one of those would be lovely along with the remap. Eargazzzzzmic!

A guy has given me first refusal on his GSR CSL Airbox which identical to the CSL, so if he sells it I shall buy it. But would not fit for a few months as I'd get 100 cel cats, remove secondary air pump and then fit along with evolve map. Be good for 360+
but like I say power mods are only on my list if can pickup parts cheap, weight reduction and suspension is everything for a track car. Plus for performance 3.91 or 4.10 gears will give far better acceleration than any performance mod. :)

You naturally have the right attitude for a track car, great stuff!!!

Weight savings, suspension, transmission, brakes > POWEERRR!

I really do have an itch for an M3, it's a pity I doubt I'll have the chance of having one with the way life is panning out atm, even though they're cheap as chips!

Have to say, drove to work this morning, now I've got all the wheel locking nuts, tow bars, spare nuts and bolts and everything tightened down its actually quite a pleasant drive even with no interior and the buckets are so comfy.

I've no idea why the last owner fitted the K&N, he said he did it with exhaust and noticed after fitting he'd gained a flat spot but the car pulled much harder past 4000rpm. Removing the K&N has cured the deadspot and it now seems to pull even better. Plus I noticed on the K&N intake the aperture where the MAF sits was a larger diameter, very very naughty, so fooling the cars ECU and leaning out the mixture, nice work K&N.

Any brakes are sorted, so powerful! This weekend see how much more weight can get out of it, then next weekend Donnington, then save for some coilovers. :)

Even with stripped out weight, uprated pads, fluid and hoses they will still fade, it'll just take a bit longer for it to kick in. Forget CSL style airboxes until you've got at least a decent set of 6 pots up front. You'll take more off your lap times with that mod than with any engine/exhaust tweaks.

The guy who owned it did several trackdays and never experienced any fade. Remember it is running larger PF two-piece disc up front and PF01 pads with improved fluid. There is no reason why it should fade at all.

Shall see how it is but am confident there shall be zero fade as in all my history of cars resolving brake fade has always being down to pad compound and fluid. Calipers more about braking feel and power.

See how it goes, but you are correct, brakes are king on track days, good brakes can be the equivalent of 100BHP on track.

Eliminating brake fade is not all about pads and fluid, it's about dissipating the heat generated by the friction more efficiently to avoid excessive heat build up and retention in the braking components. This in turn stops the fluid boiling and pads getting too hot. There's lots of factors that go into that one.

They WILL fade if they're being used properly, I know that, been there, unless you're on a circuit that's very kind on brakes or only doing 4 to 6 lap stints.

You go to loads of trackday's and have owned a CSL. You will therefore know there is a very good reason that every CSL or E46 M3 that are tracked regularly will be running BBK's :)
