"Just stop oil"

This is a slow road to eco terrorism because nobody listens, so they do more rash things to make people listen, but the people still don't listen, so their answer is to escalate and keep escalating until they're finally heard but it sadly does the opposite so they push themselves to more extremes where eventually it becomes terrorism
And let's be honest, ruining someone's tax fiddle.....

They're not wrong though, if we carry on as we are, the planet is ******
the planet goes through climate change even without us and it did before we existed.
If they were campaigning to reduce plastic particles from polluting our food chain and environment more than it already has they might get more support

I used to be of this mindset but the data is pretty clear that the planet is warming at an accelerated rate, no doubt partially natural, but mostly human contribution

Also plastic is a by product of oil, so they are effectively campaigning to stop plastics
How much fuel can be made from a single protestor? Two birds, one stone.
Could have them running on dynamo hamster wheels 18 hours a day as punishment

Maybe it’s time all these famous paintings were protected better, like the Mona Lisa
Oil slick? Most of the are wheat intolerant, so a circle of bread crumbs?

I actually think we should just leave them attached and keep them as pieces of art, charge twice the price!

The irony of them attaching themselves to an oil painting is not lost of me, they got the idea after watching Sideshow Bob banning all TV through the use of TV! True story.

I will listen to them the day they give up oil and practice what they preach. Just a bunch of hypocrites, hell the woman at the art gallery today had holidays in Bali, Australia and flew on a whim to the canary islands because it was cold in Britain. So yeah, now she is against it all and all for protesting against climate change after she's had the fun of her holidays.

The message is there, its just not being delivered in the right way. You need the backing of the public, not getting the publics back up. Frankly sticking stuff to something of such historical and cultural significance is disgusting. They could have just as well hung their images alongside the painting on the wall or on the floor. What next, smash up Stonehenge and spray paint Just Stop Oil on the fallen stones? I mean they've only been there for 5000 years , a testiment to mankinds ingenuity, engineering and social skills....nah sod it eh, lets knock em over for the cause yah yah , we're going to smash the oinks !

And then the guy has the blatant hypocritical cheek to say - who needs art when millions will die, or something to that effect. He... a university music student. Yeah? Well who needs music when millions will die in that case? I assume he'll be dropping out of uni given that his own logic is that his music degree is equally worthless? There are many things that I dont have any tolerance for in life and hypocrisy is number one, right at the top of the list.

Err no.. The planet has and will survive long before and long after we are gone.

This is not about the planet, it is about ourselves.

This is about turning the planet into a place where we cannot survive.

The planet doesn't care either way about us.

This.

Earth will shrug us off like fleas and be fine until the sun finally expands and consumes it.

Sooner the human race is gone the better tbh!

Does that really need saying for the millionth time?

I think by now people understand that when someone says "the planet is ******" it means the planets ability to sustain the human race at its current levels, not that the actual physical planet is going to be destroyed.

Why did the police broker some agreement with the drivers then give them an escort at 30 MPH along the motorways, instead of using the new powers they have been given to arrest them?

We have the coastguards and RNLI escorting illegal immigrants safely ashore and now the police officially endorsing and escorting rolling road blocks.

Because it’s all part of the plan.

Going back to the OP a little, this is very revealing:

This is since 2015 to 2019, and you can see oil is about 25% of global energy consumption. We need to cut our reliance on oil, gas, and coal, but it's going to take an incredibly long time. The UK government is completely arse about elbow though. Heat pumps aren't suddenly going to solve anything as the UK's national grid is very far from green.

*gets down from soapbox*
