"Just stop oil"

Its now labours position so it could well be in the next 18 months....

No any existing oil is fine, just keep it pumping. In fact any licenses signed before the election can keep producing until no longer economic.
This policy should see UK oil and gas extraction well through the next government whoever they are.

Also how many of us have put our gas boilers in the skip and are keeping cosy with their new heat pump.

You've missed the point I was making, ironically like the protesters.

Most people agree with the aims of the movement.

But most of the public don't like the way these groups go about it.

This is the same logic of bombing a population to get that government to make a decision. That assumes the government listens to the public. At some point a regular person realises its not working so stop.
Agreeing and being sympathetic isn't nearly enough. And therefore I understand the frustration of these protest groups.

However, I don't believe there is any approach that will result in drastic action being taken.

We need people to act against their own short-term best interests (when best interest is defined as maximum convenience, as it is for most of us).

Just look at single-use plastic. We know how bad it is. We know the effect it is having. We know plastics are getting into our food and potentially killing us in a variety of ways.

But we keep voting with our buying habits to keep single-use plastic in use across all industries. Nobody is seriously talking about getting rid. Single-use plastic has, in just a few generations, become something we "can't live without". And so we keep polluting the environment with it.

I'm sure if you talk to just about anyone they will be "sympathetic" to taking action on single-use plastic. Just not today, and not them in particular.

That is literally what just stop oil want - no new oil, not no oil…

Their position is the same as the Labour position an announced the other day.

It's nice to see some push-back to these clowns holding up traffic. When your protests are protected by the government, and the police will punish everyone else. You're probably on the wrong side there.
I'm pro positive-changes for the climate, but this group absolutely isn't it.
