Keep cake away from the office

I keep in shape. I eat lots of salad everyday and my waist size hasn't changed for 25 years.

I also like cake and I had some ginger cake at work today that a colleague brought it. Why should a sensible person like me loose out on occasional treats because a fat people has no self control?

What's next? Are they going to ban alcohol because it's a temptation for alcoholics? Are they going to ban computer games to prevent addiction? The worlds gone mad.

Ok I was bored and actually read the original article.

“With smoking, after a very long time, we have got to a place where we understand that individuals have to make some effort but that we can make their efforts more successful by having a supportive environment. But we still don’t feel like that about food.”

Can't say I disagree with that. Disgusted by your fat colleagues? Maybe don't bring cake in for them. Everyone in your office thin and sporty? Cakes for all! You wouldn't buy a pint for a teetotal former alcoholic to test their willpower, but sticking a cake under the nose of someone who could stand to lose a bit of weight is fair game?

I remember pre pandemic and there would be cakes in the office every day, it's hard to resist temptation.

WFH and you've gotta buy your own cakes I'm a lot less likely to bother.

At work we actually got a catering budget during the lockdowns which mostly went on buffet food - though I think it was a bit unwise with the potential for spread that way even though they tried to make it stuff where people weren't taking stuff from shared packets, etc. people WFH got an allowance they could use on stuff like Just Eat.

I'd quite like to see the back of paid-for loot boxes in games.

Last place i worked we had 3 older women who were the admin biatches. Every day there were freshly baked cakes in the rest room - nom. No one was offended if you did or didn't eat any, nor was there any pressure to eat.

In my current role we bring cake in for your birthday, promotions, fines etc - i like it as it's a bit of office morale and i like cake :)
