Kerbal Space Program

Glaucus, nice craft. :)
So what's the top speed + safe cruising speed/altitude?

ta

25-28km or at least try to, flame out is ~29.5
and cruising speed depends how good you are at keeping it at a certain height.
25k is about 1500m/s and 28k is about 1700

at least its nice to handle in that regard over time it climbs, disable ASAS and it pitchs down, so it was just a matter of letting it climb, disable asas and then almost immediately reneabling asas.
That one was the Ugly Foker

A new short take off, short landing long distance plane, named Ugly 1 (1 engine) take of speed 33m/s
Cruise 28,300m at 1937m/s

Flame out 30532m  over 2200 at 30k
Now trying to land it half way around kerbin again.

This thing has insane gliding abilities, overshot my landing spot my 100s of kilometers. Almost an entire continent.

not sure what it's purposes, probably be good for doing science, in different biomes on next update.

This is how far it glides

switch engine off

feel like i'm going to overshoot, so point down to lose altitude

realise I still haven't lost enough altitude

and land on runway with more than 1/3 of fuel left and no engine on decent.

True!

Finally made a SSTO plane which gets to orbit with plenty of dV for rendevous maneouvres.

You using the attachment mod to attach the ram intakes or doing something clever?

Renetrey is the hardest thing to do n a ssto. They nearly always flip out due to the weight shifting as all the fuels gone.
Thats another thing i want in the vab. To be able to see the cOG at at least zero fuel if not being able to do per tank.

I also want air brakes.

The front eight have the smallest girder attached to the wing and then the ram intake attached to that. The rear fuel tanks have 4 intakes each clipped onto the end of the tank using the "allow part clipping" option in the debug menu.

The models look brilliant, but not for 40 Euro!

Happened to land near an old munar probe I launched ages ago. Jeb couldn't resist popping over there and... standing on top of it.

Is this game easier to learn now?

I enjoy watching people stream it i.e Sevadus but he has a habit of blowing stuff up :p

Really tempted to purchase it the next time it pops up on steam sale.

You should buy it, theres tutorials it and thousands of decent youtube help videos.

Its a good learning curve. You'll struggle to get to orbit, then something will click and you'll be like, how was i so rubbish, this is so easy. But then theres the next thing to learn, then the next etc.learning the navball and the different orbiting operations is the most important.

Latest Release build is 0.21.1.
It's still an open end Sandbox (Will always have this feature)
So you set your goal (Manned mission too Mun), build a craft to achieve that, succeed or fail miserably, :o an repeat the process = Stacks of fun + replay-ability.

There is a step learning curve, for first time players:
Controls
Graphics Interface (What does all those numbers mean.)
Orbital mechanics (what way is up/down.)
Craft design (Rockets, Planes, Probes, Rovers, Stations.)
Flag planting :D
- But KSP has tutorials included + there is hundreds if not thousands of Youtube video's for advice, inspiration, or simple amusement.

An soon there is a new version: 0.22.
With an added Career mode, to test us more experienced astronauts. ;)
An much more...

PS: You have tried the Demo on Steam?

I tried it and was enjoying it but sorta lost interest after the 10th blow up but I did enjoy it as it's not a game you have to be fully focused on 100% of the time and can semi relax whilst playing it

Just landed my first Kerbonauts on Laythe in my new lander design:

Obviously still needs some work. Everyone survived though, I just wish I'd remembered to change the flipping flag:

Not sure if I have enough dV to get home, I'll have to check that out tomorrow.

To anyone who has used a spaceplane to Laythe, how did you attach it to the transfer stage, or build it with enough dV to get there by itself? I had a 3-man SSTO plane design but it wobbled too much when docked to the front of a transfer stage and I couldn't figure out how to radially attach it without having to add a big heavy counterbalance which would kill the dV.

Is that thing going to make it back into orbit, or are those kerbals marooned there? If it's the latter... you monster. :p

In theory it has more than enough dV to get back to the transfer stage, and as far as I can tell all of the fuel tanks and the engine are still attached, so they *should* be ok....!

Update:

al2qmp.jpg

Rest easy Reaper, they all made it back! I do feel like a monster for the reentry though, it was straight into Kerbin's SOI on a crash trajectory so they were still doing 1 Km-s at an altitude of 8 Km. Normally I'd be fine with that, but Bill and Bob were strapped into the seats on top of the fuel tanks rather than in a capsule....

When I landed on Laythe I used a lander with both rocket and jet parts. I used the jet parts to slow down and take off and get to altitude and rocket parts to land (it landed like a lander rather than a plane) and get from altitude to orbit. I had an unmanned transfer stage waiting in orbit, which was lucky 'cos I didn't know much about SSTOs at the time, so i was running on fumes when I got to orbit.

I've been playing a lot with SSTOs recently, so I think I might revisit Laythe and play :)

I never get too post images of my miss-adventures with KSP, enough for my liking.
Sadly that is one of the small draw backs with helping develop KSP. :) An been subject to an NDA.
But here is some pictures from a few tested, an mostly failed projects. :o

New Prototype plane, in the hope to break some speed tests upside down:
Inverted.

The lovely view from 25KM high. :D Sadly not very fast..
arun.jpg

New AMBASSADOR Range of rocket.
Wasn't the most successful due to its sheer sizes (1154 Parts), mass (1000+ Tons) an cost (Lots of money).
Too speak nothing of the extreme loss of Kerbal life it caused, through repeated failed test flights.
I still think it looks epic. An hope it's failure, will help with development of new Super Large rockets in the future. ;)
b35u.png

New (SI) NOVA Range of rocket.
This has been one of my few successful rockets of late. Designed specifically to be the back bone to my Sandbox exploration in the future.
Effortlessly reaches orbit, an Mun/Minimus. With the potential for Duna (un-tested.) When docked, an fully refueled it should reach every corner of the galaxy. :)
