Kickstart classic RPG - Wasteland 2!

I am doing the Rail Nomads bit atm. Trying to negotiate peace, and it seems like I am being punished for trying tbh...I am just walking from one side of the map to the other in order to have a 5 second conversation where I don't even get to choose any responses. Nothing happens as I travel from one to the other either, it is just unnecessary trekking over the area to pad it out. Sorry, bit I expect better in 2014

This is true it was a bit annoying. But resolving it peacefully was worth it.

After all that pointless wandering around the Rail Nomad's camp, I was unable to make peace between them. No dialogue options or anything, I just clicked the screen when it told me to, then they started fighting. They both asked me to help them, but by the time I had read the dialogue bubble, it was over. Waste of time.

The game should be like 4gb max. lol. I had a go, only thing I enjoyed was making my characters. The rest of the game is boring and a chore. Well disappointed. I would much rather play Fallout 1 and 2 than this.

If you have an itch for such games, play Divinity - Original Sin to scratch it. Much better game. Not that I care about how much space a game takes at this day and age, but Divinity - Original Sin is less than half the size of Wasteland 2 and looks and plays on a completely different level.

Absolutely. At least Divinity offered up something new, and felt fresh. This game feels stuck in the past in comparison.

I have to ask, is there only one 'random encounter' in the game(I can't believe there is!). I have done the 3-4 guys with 11 hp on the small area with the truck in the middle at least 10 times. It is mind-numbingly boring!

Gonna have to give up and say it just isn't very good now I think. What a shame, I was really looking forward to it as well!

Just had an encounter where I met with some people on my way to Damonta. A man and a woman. I spoke to the woman who was very freindly, then I spoke to the man, who wasn't, though the woman was trying to convince him to to be nicer. Anyway, I asked him about his brother and he said not to ask again...of course, I asked again and he tried to kill me. I don't really have a problem with that(though it was just incredibly poor writing), but the woman joined in as well and I had to kill all of them!

Also, I just don't like the conversation options. They are few and far between and when they do appear, they are limited and can lock you out of quests and things through no fault of your own. It is so restrictive.

Playing this though has put me in the mood for a good Isometric RPG, just one better made. I might play Divinity again actually, as there was an update recently.

PS. I thought the chances of me not liking this game were very low indeed!:(

Was gonna wait for the steam sale to pick this up but seeing as it's on most of the CD key sites for just over a tenner grabbed it from G2A. First time I'ev used CDKey site so hopefully it's legit!

Installing just now. I'm a bit apprehensive as thought I'd like a fix of old skool rpg but was disappointed by shadowrun returns so hopefully I'll enjoy this more. Lovedthe first 2 fallout games.

I wasn't expecting much but I got a key from G2A too. I'm 10 hours in since Friday and I must say, this is a true successor to Wasteland and Fallout 1/2. There are some issues, the graphics are poor, the camera can be a pain, the itemization is basic but the qualities make up for them.

1. Skills, attributes and levels. Almost all skills are often used and doing so always grants experience. You can use Surgeon to release people from vines, classical dialogue interactions (intimidate, sweet talk) are everywhere, you can even remove herbs from a lab using Outdoorsman. It's absolutely mandatory for your starting characters + recruits to cover as many noncombat skills as possible.

2. The story and the impact of choices. I'm not too far in the game but I've already made a choice which dramatically changed the scenery. I gained access to a location, a recruitable NPC and a few other things and I lost access to another location, along with whatever was in it. If I play the game again, I have another route to explore.

3. The combat, while basic at first glance, is more complex than I expected. Action Points are crucial but Combat Initiative can be even more important, you always have to consider the other when choosing one of these two characteristics. The enemies follow the same rules as you do and they can have the same vulnerabilites/strengths. There's not much AI as far as I can tell as the encounters are mostly scripted but it has yet to bore so far. While lacking the complexity of Original Sin, the combat is straight out of the Wasteland/Fallout textbooks, with quite a few improvements, which I enjoyed.

4. Exploration. The graphics may be poor (the engine is at fault, not the art style) but the maps were create with attention to details, they don't feel generic at all. I believe I've spent more time exploring, opening doors, safes, disarming traps and alarms than dialogue + combat in total.

Overall, this is a good game, a modern Fallout 1/2 with much of the same "feel" and gameplay. Unfortunately, it's one of those games that isn't good at selling itself because of some odd developer choices, particularly the engine.

I started again, as I have nothing else to play. About £28 hours in. There are some major problems especially with the combat, and some really poor bugs in AI and story(magnified when you get to the Canon of titan), but getting on better with it now.

Of the many issues, I think the main one that infuriates is not being able to move past your own characters during combat. Can't believe that got past the very long beta!.. Also, having enemies spawn miles away during combat is another example of the tediousness that is unfortunately all over this game.

What do you mean move past them? Character collision makes sense because avoiding friendly fire is an important part of tactical management, as is the possibility to force the AI into their own friendly fire situations.

One character stands in a doorway(often at the start of combat, so you can't control it) meaning nobody else can move past him!...A whole turn can be wasted because you can't really do anything. There are lots of little bits in this that just add to the general frustration and drag things out too much in combat. Often, incredibly easy fights with no tactical gameplay last 5 minutes too long simply through poor mechanics.

You see it as a nuisance, I see it as design with tactical application, just like in chess (most units can't "jump" over their own or enemy units). :D

Also, you can control where everyone is at the start of combat if you use single character orders, place everyone in your desired position and then trigger combat by attacking or moving someone in the enemy's range.

I can't say I've encountered this issue. I play on Ranger difficulty and I'm either getting owned or it's a tough fight if the combat lasts. When it's easy, the first target dies with a burst volley when I initiate the fight and the others are picked off one by one just as fast.

Not if you open a door and combat starts immediately, or it just starts when you least expect it, like it often does in the Canyon! I think it is really poor....Like my mele/close combat guys are just standing around at the back whilst one character stands in the doorway(or other things, not just doorways) taking damage for a round....and even when you can move in to a decent position before combat, it is really awkward. The game badly needs some kind of stealth.

Honestly, I think the combat in general is barely functional. I avoid it wherever possible as it just isn't fun.

^For easy fights, it is often in the random encounters, where I have fought enemies with 12 health, who do 4 damage, when my rangers have more than 200 and hit for 120...only my characters can't move, or their guns jam etc(though the latest patch has at least reduced that), meaning it is just...well, there is no other word for it, tedious.

I am just about to leave Arizona in my game. Just mopping things up. Apparently from reading the forums, it gets really buggy in California! Be nice to go to a new area though.

To me that makes sense, You have been surprised or ambushed, Your guys are not going to be in the perfect position to deal with this even slightly.

I struggled with this concept at the start but now when entering new areas I explore slowly and use 1 person to enter rooms when possible to avoid this. Advanced scouting and all that.

Combat in itself is very basic (Although I am noticing more and more depth to it as I am going along I.E Height and Kneeling increasing accuracy etc) and the AI is rather lacking at times and seems to attack randomly but I haven't found it a chore in the slightest. I found levels in XCOM Enemy Unknown more of a chore than this by a long shot.

I haven't had less than a 75% chance to avoid a fight and frequently get 100%.

I have done about 5-6 hours worth so far I think

I have done the AG centre and got Rose and Angela with me, I left Highpool to burn and have just gone there and saved the guy being attacked who had a go at the rangers for leaving them to die.

I have been inside the citadel and spoke to everyone, got a few quests then clicked the button on the nuke without thinking about it....consider that half hour wasted

I have cleared the wrecking crews base, The infected Farm and The Infected Town

Now have to go to the railyard or some such .

Well I got to the prison last night and Cleared all of the outside and have gone in via what I assume is the back door and entered the basement only to be met by a small army... jesus this fight is tough :(

Well I haven't even got inside the prison as of yet but that is good to know. I am still outside as I have cleared a cave (What I thought was the basement), cleared the town and cleared the farm so far. Had to reload about 4 or 5 times on some fights but once you get the positioning right you just dominate the fight in a few turns.

I am regretting spending points in certain places as I have now met people that have skills that surpass my 4 initial starters in those fields, for instance Rose having high computer science and Surgeon, Angela having hard ass and brute force or whatever it is called.

So far really enjoying this though and cannot wait to play it through a second time.

Cheers. They have added controller support!! I know most of you wont get excited by that haha. Only got past the first of couple of main missions so hopefully this is better. Better graphics and perks too.

Just occured to me that Divinity Original Sin may have added controller support in there Enhanced edition....They have! Goes to get that too. I know I should practice and get used to KB+M but oh well.
