Korean Grand Prix 2010, Korean International Circuit - Race 17/19

Is this a conspiracy theory or is there any proof?

I love conspiracy theories. :)

I think, looking back at the situation, and how early they were calling it, they must have known something was up.

With a healthy car they would have been more than confident of rolling in for a win. It was never going to work, but they wanted to get the idea in the CW's head asap. Hence the counter claims by Mclaren who probably twigged something was up..

Highly doubtfull, they were asking many people on the light levels. How would Lewis have an idea that Vettels car was failing?

Lewis wanted to keep racing because he was chasing, Vettel wanted to quit because he was being chased. Nothing more sinister than that. Whiting would have been asking for feedback on the light levels. Vettel set his fastest time after he said light was fading. I doubt he would have been pushing that hard had he known of an imminent failure.

Lewis would have not had much of an idea, but Mclaren might have been thinking it.

I was speculating anyway ;)

Interestingly enough, you mention Vettel set his fastest lap after saying it was very bad. How likely is it that he would be pushing so hard if it was that dangerous.

Perhaps red-bull were just covering bases, seeing as the engine was on its third race (is this right), and would have preferred to end it sooner rather than later. Certainly, the engine condition/history would have been a consideration for their reasoning of trying to get it ended early. Maybe not the main one, but any such concern would have been sensible, it seems :D

First I was glad I recorded the race so I could fast forward the first hour but then they switched form BBC1 so I missed the end of the race, luckily it was repeated in the afternoon.

What a farce though, I agree with the gay, pussy, wimp comments, if it is raining very hard just drive slower.

And then they have the guts to start the race and they still drive lap after lap behind the safetycar :(

I think Red Bull wanted to race until lap 42 so that any red flag after that promised full points.

Christian Horner told Jake and Eddie after the race that Vettel was telling the team the engine was gone before the engineers monitoring the engine had spotted anything so I doubt Red Bull were asking for a red flag for the light because Vettel told the team his engine had gone and then it immediately did. There wouldn't have been time for Red Bull to get that message from Vettel and start praying for a red flag.

he chose those parts because he more comfortable than with the bits hamilton was using.

In the dry, he was happier with the balance on those suspension parts. Not that there was much in it. Hamiltons car was eating tyres as well, he either managed it better or the parts Jenson fitted didn't work for him.

Utimately it was JB's call and he got it wrong.

It is unusual to have him struggle so much in the wet.

It was great to hear the difference in attitudes from those who had most to gain to those who had most to lose. Lewis desperate to get the race going even if he was wrong about it almost being inter weather and the rest of the title deciders happy to have a day off.

Only due to them being at the front - which all of them would have done imo.

So you think Lewis was only eager because of his championship standing?

Do you think he would have been as keen had the positions and standings been reversed?

Where as Webber always bottles these situations, often you see him walking up and down the grid drumming up support for not racing. Championship leader or not.

Yep, if he was leading I expect he would have been fairly neutral about it or pushed to say the 'correct thing' by the team.

Wasn't Webber head of the drivers association, so was previously thinking of safety rather than himself in those cases?

I would go along with that. And to TBH, if I were in the position of leading the WDC, I would also push for a late/delayed start or even better - a complete cancellation of the race.

Hell, if I could get away with it, I would want the remaining races canceled, just so that I could take the WDC.

That my friend, is a fantastic answer. The point still stands that Webber does not like wet conditions, however, your reply is the reply which Webber himself should use, if any one ever questions his attitude towards wet races.

i was just thinking it was funny that he was on the radio saying its to dark on lap 45 and then the very next lap the car breaks
so i was thinking he must have felt something wrong with the car and know he wouldn't go the distance and was hoping Charlie whiting would hear it and think its was time to stop as it was over lap 44 which meant full points if the race was stopped, just seemed abit of a conscience

Don't they delay most messages by a few minutes, so its likely he said it(or the team planned for him to say it as all messages are monitored) right after passing 75% mark?

Meh, as for new suspension and Button's tires, and/or never usually struggling as much in wet weather.

Firstly, everyones tires were crap, mostly throughout, almost everyone had completely bald extreme wets when they came in the pits, Button probably had his inters die a little earlier just because he came in a little earlier and as he was almost always following someone around very closely, but as completely usual unable to pass anyone, his tires were probably in worse shape.

Vettel was rarely behind anyone, there was a decent gap between him and Alonso, Alonso and Hamilton, etc, etc. Button was often behind a train of people meaning the first car throws up some water, the 2nd and 3rd car throw up the rest and buttons driving around on hotter drying tarmac as that spray hasn't come back down on the track before he hits it.

Stuck in behind someone is bad in the dry and worse in the wet when you need SOME water to keep the tires under control.

It doesn't excuse why he had no pace, the tires didn't go off instantly, his tires weren't noticeably worse than anyone elses(both Williams had worse tires and when they got THAT bad, Hulkenberg pitted).

Buttons problem ALL year in almost every race is a complete inability to pass anyone, he's gotten stuck behind all types of car, back to front, great to crap, he has a habit of being very hard to pass aswell, though Hamilton, Alonso maybe Vettel don't seem to have much trouble, I seem to remember Webber getting stuck behind him several times.

Maybe the pit + SC wasn't great for him, however the pit + no SC and for my money he'd have been stuck exactly where he was.

Actually I'm trying to work it out, before Sutil tried to smack him off the road, how did Button get stuck where he was, he pitted early, got stuck in the middle of a pack of people, did the guys infront of him not stop at all in the race? Surely when they pitted he should have moved miles up again, SC or no SC?

Button was released behind the huge pack, then the SC came out. But a lot of people pitted before him at the back of the pack, I remember Brundle saying how they were faster because their inters were coming upto temp.

In fairness, when Ferrari brought Alonso to Ferrari (amid a lot of speculation and buzz), making him the most expensive driver in F1, they did so with the expectation that he would take them back to the top of F1. If I was the Ferrari boss, I wouldn't be suprised by Alonso's recent performances, I would've been expecting this from the word go.

Here's a question: in 2006, after MSc had decided he was quitting F1, he recommended to Ferrari that Kimi should replace him, as he felt he was the best person to replace him. Given that Alonso had hammered MSc in the title race in 2005/6, why did MSc not request Ferrari to bring Alonso to Ferrari? Why did MSc/Ferrari allow Alonso to sign for McLaren?

Remember Ferrari were going to make whoever they signed, the highest paid driver in F1. Why go for 2nd best (Kimi), when you can go for the best (Alonso) and offer that driver the best contract in F1?
