Korean Grand Prix 2011, Yeongam Circuit - Race 16/19

Just regarding the possible Flexi Splitter news thats been floating around these are all from Scarbs twitter today

I hear a TD (Technical Directive) went out from Charlie Whiting to the teams over the Korean GP, about T-Tray Splitter construction.

Specifically a team requesting clarification if a see-saw set up would be legal, its was clarified it would be in contravention of the rules

I blogged a way to beat the splitter deflection rules, the FIA said they will now test the splitters to ensure the rules are not being exploited

Very interesting you say that because during the post qually conference I thought that exact thing - that maybe he has split with Nicole, because he looks so sad / hurt deep down and there's not many things that can make you look so sad... getting your heart broken is one of them though.

I'd say his demeanour has more to do with this....

Lewis KNOWS he can beat Seb but feels his machinery is letting him down. And as you can see from that vid, Seb has been a Red-Bullion for aeons. Not a cat in hells chance of him getting Marks car !!

ANYTHING is possible in F1.

Who would've thought that Alonso would be matched by a rookie, in 2007?
Who would've thought that Honda/Brawn would release a car which would be the class of the field, by a big margin, in 2009?
Who would've thought that Button would move to McLaren to go head to head against Hamilton, in 2010?

In 2009, who would've thought that Vettel would be a double Word Champ, within the next 2-3 years (and possibly triple World Champ within 3-4 years)?

Hamilton definitely has a chance of being at RBR in 2013, but he has to be intelligent in how he plays the game. Ideally, he needs to hire a decent manager/agent, with the sole aim of getting him in RBR for 2013. His current management (I think it's Simon Fuller's company), is absolutely useless. He also has to be resolutely focused on getting into RBR. If he is half hearted about it...it won't happen.

Alonso, Senna and Prost have all shown in the past that if you are determined to join a particular team and you show you are able to deliver the goods...you can get into the team of your choice. Obviously, Hamilton must dominate Button next year...he won't get an RBR drive if he continues to crash.

Not until Vettel goes and by that time I suspect the rookies may be well seasoned prospects by then too...

Red Bull is run far more like Ferrari than McLaren then theyd like to admit publically, I dont think their management is stupid enough to promote that kind of friction; unlike McLaren the other teams like having WCCs ;)

For sure, RBR know that having Hamilton in their team will only cause an imbalance. I think Horner alluded to this earlier this year. But, Hamilton must do his best to make his services indispensable to RBR. He has to tempt them. There is no guarantee that this would work, but it's worth a try.

In 1993, Senna was schmoozing Williams. Prost already had an agreement that he would not drive with Senna. At the time, people felt that Senna going to Williams would be almost impossible. Eventually, Williams made the decision to bring in Senna (even if it meant breaking Prost's agreement). Prost then agreed to leave the team at the end of the year.

Hamilton moving to RBR is possible, though he has to do really well in the first half of next season. This will give him some bargaining power. Also, he has to hire a decent agent/manager. There is no way that he is capable of schmoozing Horner/RBR, so he must get his agent to do the dirty work.

I think it was mentioned in a previous thread that the best drivers are not only great on-track, but they are great off it. What this means is that a top driver must have the ability to persuade team principals to hire them. A good driver is adept at playing the political game. Prost was the absolute master of this. Senna wasn't bad either. Button is actually pretty good at this, too.

If you can master the politics and be fast on track, then you have a good chance of finding yourself in the best team and you increase the chances of winning races/titles.

That doesn't mean that Hamilton could beat Vettel now in the RB. Both drivers will have developed since then. Also that was Vettel's rookie year in F3 and he ended the year 5th. The previous year Hamilton also came 5th.

It is difficult to see why RBR would want Hamilton from a racing pov. If they produce a good car then Vettel can win. If their car isn't competitive then Hamilton will perform as he has this year at Mclaren.

The only reason they might want Hamilton is for pr reasons. PR for the RB brand is the only reason they are in F1 and if they think Hamilton will attract a different audience then they may sign him anyway.
