TBH i really dont see what all the fuss and negativity is about L4D2. Yeah its coming a little earlier than expected but i cant really see how its much different than any other sequel to a game. OH MY GOD theres only new weapons, new campaigns and new characters. Erm....isnt that the same for any sequel. Modern Warfare 2 only has new weapons, maps and characters. Lets all boycott that too 
Theres also the supposedly dramatic changes made to the AI director, paths changing through the maps etc
Yeah valve promissed additional free content for L4D1 and too an extent they have delivered, dont forget we still have Crash Down to come yet. Most devolopers dont give you any freebies so imo everyone should stop moaning

Only bought L4D recently so they'd better continue updates! 
"The release of Left 4 Dead 2 as a stand-alone sequel will split the communities and decrease the quality of multiplayer gaming."
They don't mean multiplayer gaming as a whole. They mean between the two games, L4D1 and L4D2 - which is actually a semi-valid point, certainly not idiotic anyway.
However, still think the boycotting is pointless. They'll all buy L4D2 and we all know it haha. I'm quite happy for Valve to release a full second game instead of updating the original in dribs and drabs. Yeah, it costs more money but it's gonna be awesome.
I've played hundreds of hours of L4D - no WAY i'd miss this.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the L4D2 boycotters are generally illogical fools who are probably underage and not meant to have played the first one anyway.
I'll be pre-ordering. I think I've spoken to a few people on here about organising a 4 pack purchase group.
Also, when L4D2 is out I'll be looking through some of the members of the L4D2 boycott group and seeing how many own the new game

The fuss was that there hadn't been a decent co-op FPS on the PC for ages (ever?), let alone one with such a wide-reaching appeal due to its excellent gameplay and scaleable graphics.
It's also just extremely good fun.

It is an alright game but I have played better free mods.
I bought the first one and a year does seem a little short but remember this is intended for the console market aswell.
They will buy anything with enough marketing. Sucks but that is how it is. Might buy it when it is a bit cheaper.

I won't be buying it unless I can get it for £15-£17 or so. It's basically the same game with new maps, a few new weapons & baddies and reskinned characters.
To me that isn't worth £25+, especially so soon after L4D1.
Content wise it seems to be me basically what we would have expected from expansion packs back in the day they were popular and so that's the sort of price i'd be willing to pay.

Whinging plebs. Too many people spoilt by the goodness Steam has given PC Gamers of this generation. Despite the fact that I think LFD1 is a steaming (no pun intended) pos I will most likely purchase it if I mates do.
They'll still go out and buy the thing anyway regardless. They're just hoping for freebies or discounts like Dark88 said.

I only paid ~£14.99 for L4D on a steam deal and I'd be more than happy to pay the same or more for the new release.
New maps, new guns, new characters, new 'storylines', new bad guys et al are just as much as any other release update.
What more did one get with any other series release i.e. COD4 to COD5 etc.
None are as whiney, hard to please and likely to kick up as much of a fuss about nothing than PC Gamers
