Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

Who would you recommend going to for the initial consultation, and even before that, what prep would you recommend.

I wouldn't understand much of the medical science so I would probably simply choose the most reliably successful surgeon/practice regardless of cost (within reason). Wouldn't dream of doing this on the cheap.
LVC.

Go for multiple consultations (if they all do thorough testing and say you're good, then you're probably good!). LVC, Focus, AVC, Moorfields hospital (Bruce Allan, Julian Stevens, Vincenzo Maurino, etc).

I am 76 and up to last year I took my eyes for granted -just had yearly check up and new lens then last year poo hit the fan.
My right eye which is master eye now has Wet macular degeneration - In other words burst blood vessel. I have had injections to stop it going further but it doesn't seem to be working.
In one stroke it messed my life up -Can't shoot -can't read very well - even have difficulty putting the end of a screwdriver on end of a screw - and it's a pain in the ass.
Now my left eye looks as though it's going the same way.

I took my eyes for granted - With out them you are buggered - So no matter what the cost get your eyes fixed -take out a loan -beg borrow or steal but get them done.
When I came in from outside I had to sit here for 5 min waiting for my eyes to adjust from sunlight to darker room I am in.

Look after them -don't take them for granted -wear eye protection.

i am sorry to read about your condition. But i’m not sure what you mean about taking out a loan and protecting your eyes?

macular degeneration is usually an age related condition so i’m not sure what you can do to actually try and stop it. Other than having regular eye check ups so that it can be caught early.

Too late for me , im 31 and -5 and -7. Apparently they only do orpho k for under 18s.

Definitely not true. Ortho-k is just also used as a treatment to halt the progression of myopia in children. You can use it at any point in your life! All you're doing is essentially having a custom fitted contact lens squish your eyeball into its proper shape, nothing harmful about that.

That being said your prescription is definitely too high unfortunately.

According to this website you can do orpho k with up to -11.

https://www.cityeyesopticians.com/orthok-lenses/who-is-suitable/#:~:text=Requirements for Ortho-K lenses,0.50D to -4.50D

Although a few other sites say up to -6, so i could get my right eye done haha.

I had mine done in Mar 2019, and wonder why I didn't have them done sooner! The difference is amazing!

I went for consults with both Optical Express and Optimax, ended up choosing Optimax. I'd recommend them to anyone, friends and family included. Their service was top notch. At all stages I was treated perfectly, everything was explained really well, and I was made to feel like a valued patient, rather than just a number. I had LASEK, it cost me £3,390 and was worth every penny.

If anyone is considering whether or not to go ahead with treatment, I'd wholeheartedly say go for it, you'll wonder why on earth you've been putting up with wearing glasses/contacts!

I assume £3,390 per eye?

If your eyes can be fixed no matter the cost get it done even if you have to have a loan,
Protect your eye when you do anything that could cause them damage - wear eye protection.

Since my last post I have been back to the hospital and the Doc said to me we are not sure now it's wet macular degeneration as there hasn't been any change from the first time I went - - I do suffer from very violent sneezing fits which double me up and I wondered if that had burst the blood vessel.
Anyway I will be back to hospital on Friday for another check up - On the last one they said they didn't think I needed another injection which was a relief. - just hoping it's the same this time.
Left eye seems to be stable.

I'd assume total. When I got a quote a few years ago, it was about 2.5k for both eyes. I couldn't quite afford it at the time. I'd be tempted to now, although I'm not sure the return on investment is worth as I'm a bit closer to 40 now...

Seems cheap, someone at work said there's cost £3k per eye.

What's everyone recommend? iv heard optical express are good?

Iv heard there's LASIK and LASEK - What's the difference?

I got mine done last November at Optegra in Manchester.

I went for the SMILE procedure to try and limit recovery and reduce dry eye symptoms. I must say i found dryness still quite an issue, particularly when using a laptop or AC environments for around 6 months but, i don't have an issues now and have been on planes etc and felt fine.

One of the best things i've done. As said, it's not cheap, but worth it if you can afford it.
