Hi mate, i downloaded mine didnt take long really, but i do have skyrim on disc, i dont mind starting it again really as it looks so good this time, im using the HD mod and verts flora and Fauna one too, from the nexus, give them a try:)

Yup installed with a very few things that you won't probably use, like the bing bar and norton security and backup if you decide you dont want to pay for the years protection after the 60 days are up (I uninstalled them and stuck microsoft security essentials on, because I didn't like the nagging to activate it for 60 days everytime I logged on). I think I remember uninstalling about 3 things it does not really come with many things apart from windows and the drivers and a few microsoft and norton things that you may or may not use, I also uninstalled the microsoft live stuff I don't use and kept only messenger live. Everything else is needed really. I stopped some of the Samsung programs starting up in task scheduler too, because don't need it to check everytime I start the machine if the Samsung programs are upto-date and I can do that myself when I want from the start menu programs because they are all listed there.

Received from DPD within 2 minutes of their earliest scheduled delivery time - kudos!

Looks, feels and smells awesome so far.

Having fun hunting down and killing bloatware.

Windows updates are being a bit precocious...

In retrospect, what method of transfer would have been best to transfer 350 gigs of Steam?

Across a wireless network was NOT wise. Two hours gone and 6% done

I just copied all my Steam folder to the Laptop (from a External HD) Then deleted the clientregistry.blob file. After that, it was just a case of games setting up etc:)

350 gig is a lot of data to shift over the wi-fi:eek:

Yeah, gave up in the end, was looking like 40 hours...

I'll sleep on it and puzzle it out tomorrow - and probably trim my steam folder while I'm at it. Again.

Thanks for the help so far :)

(also Tony)

(e) cat5 to the router and the same 350GB will take just over 3 hours. Hmm, wonder if a direct cable connection would be quicker - presumably take advantage of laptop/desktop gigabit nics?

I'd check your update status if I were you. I had the constant config pop ups and it turned out updates weren't installing at all. Had to delete the update services folder in windows in the end.

I suspect it didn't like the Samsung "useful" software installer which included a few critical updates.

Batman AC stutters quite badly, but I hear it does that on even the highest systems. Will try again without the dx11 eye candy, annoying though that may be :(

you get stuttering on AC, i did on my old system but not with this one, strange?, yeah might be DX11?
Ah thanks so thats why it pops up all the time.

You will need to update DirectX remember. Not had any stutters batman ac here that are not the games fault, it has its moments even on my gtx580 on the desktop but they are known game faults. The game is known to have many faults when played in DX11 too. We are all still waiting for all the bugs to be removed. So don't judge the laptop on that one game.

Any word on when the successor to this laptop might be appearing now that Samsung appears to have let slip the Ivy Bridge and GeForce GTX 675m on their website.

Would really love a 15.6" version of it with a 1600*900, would be perfect. More portablle, very usable screen resolution (personally 1920*1080 is tad high for everyday use on a 15.6" screen, plus it would give you better performance in games.

Just a quickie, Purgatory or Blueshift - have you noticed that volume control is unavailable whilst playing Skyrim (maybe any full screen game)?

The only option seems to be alt-tabbing out and controlling from the desktop. Neither the touch-sensitive thingy nor the fn+f-key work in game :(

Raid 0 and no ssd, isn't that a recipe for storage and os disaster?

Basically, yes. Absolutely.

Anyone with sense would swap in an SSD as the OS drive and a 1TB drive as the storage drive. Unforgiveable really at this price range. And as for the 5400rpm spindle speeds of the included drives not making "any" difference... yeah, right.
