** LATE BUT IN FASHION: SAMSUNG G700 GAMING LAPTOP ARRIVING TOMORROW! **

Basically, yes. Absolutely.

Anyone with sense would swap in an SSD as the OS drive and a 1TB drive as the storage drive. Unforgiveable really at this price range. And as for the 5400rpm spindle speeds of the included drives not making "any" difference... yeah, right.

Have to agree with you there, and my gaming laptop does has 4gig flash memory used for some kinda "express cache" - theres a huge difference between having an average 5400rpm and a good 7200rpm HDD in it.

Bit Skimp On The OS Aren't They? Home Premium, Bah

Fine for a gaming laptop IMO

Just a heads-up for owners of this laptop, the windows update doesn't function correctly in Gaming Mode due to the mode dial software disabling some important windows services. So either go into the mode dial software and disable the reduce services or go into balanced mode to run windows update. After 3 reinstalls of windows I realised this was causing the errors and strange behavior for windows update.

I updated to windows 7 ultimate and removed the restore partition and also removed the Raid because the express cache really does work and it makes little difference with the Raid enabled and only adds future headaches if one of the drives fail. So just to let you owners know from my findings and I will keep you updated if I spot anything else. So far really enjoying the laptop :).

Just a quickie, Purgatory or Blueshift - have you noticed that volume control is unavailable whilst playing Skyrim (maybe any full screen game)?

The only option seems to be alt-tabbing out and controlling from the desktop. Neither the touch-sensitive thingy nor the fn+f-key work in game :(

Check if they work in balanced mode, if they do it means the game dial software is disabling the services the samsung requires to use them buttons. You can try disabling the reduce services in the game dial software when you are in gaming mode as a test.

I just did a clean reinstall of windows 7 ultimate so have no games on currently to test it for you, but will let you know when I do.

I have just ordered one, cheapest I could find was the s02uk version at Comet for £1299 (with free delivery and 2.5% cashback if you join quidco)

Yes I saw that deal the other day. Let us know if they deliver, I have a strange feeling they don't have any stock of these anywhere and they may have priced it wrong or only have a very few at that price to promote the laptop or worse it maybe the model without the 3D Glasses. Also looking at their detailed specs of the laptop there they show "1600x1080p Screen resolution" which is clearly wrong and some of the other specs they list there look funny too.. I own this laptop it's 1920 x 1080p @120 Hz or 60Hz. I don't know, I hope the laptop you get is the right one and they have just the wrong specs there, the place you have bought it from is well know for making major mistakes on specs and delivering a totaly different item than what was ordered. I also wouldn't have bought from them because their aftersales support is well .... read the reviews for them.. They cause more headaches than they fix when things go wrong, so if something does go wrong with it contact Samsung direct to sort it and don't let their inhouse "support" open your laptop up unless you want it more broken and more damaged. It's a great laptop mate I hope you get the right one and make sure the 3D glasses come with it because they are £100 a set to replace or to add. Let us know how you get on :).

Samsung arrived early this morning (Although I did pay for a Saturday delivery so don't get too excited)!

Strangely, there is no label on the box or even inside that tells you what the specs are. I had to install Belarc and run it before I could confirm everything was as it should be (2.2Ghz i7, HD 6970M, 2TB HDD). I can also confirm that the screen res is most certainly 1920x1080! I'd actually called Comet yesterday to ask about that anyways.

I have to say though, yesterday I got confused with this whole s01uk and s02uk thing so I called Samsung directly to ask the difference. However, I was just talking to clueless idiots who had no idea what they were on about. All they did was read from a spec page which was wrong. How do I know it was wrong? Well, the guy said the s01uk had the radeon hd 6970m whilst the s02uk had the hd 6790m. This was quite clearly a typo but the guy insisted because it was what he had written down it was 100% accurate. I just gave up with them in the end.

Anyways, to finish off, glasses came too in the box. I have never had 3d glasses before but this set probably feel flimsier than the ones you get in the cinema. To express how flimsy they feel, after you read they cost about £100 to replace you are almost afraid to hold them by the plastic ear rests.

All in all, very happy with the price! I probably won't be using it today properly as it'll take me the best part of my free time today to update and setup Windows 7 to how I like it.

I used to own the massive 19" Toshiba qosmio x500 which had an ssd. My desktop also has an ssd and I'll tell u what..... u don't half notice the difference in how much slower things happen when you go back to a regular hdd (i.e. booting up, installing things, loading up programs/games)!

Enjoy the laptop mate. Happy to hear you got the right model with the glasses. The express cache will speed things up after a few reboots. Also make sure to disable some of the useless stuff in the task scheduler and the general startup items.

Also remember to run windows update in balanced mode not gaming mode as I mentioned in an above post or it will error and not work correctly. Also update powerdvd or some blurays will not play correctly and update DirectX too. Have fun and remember to turn on the dolby sound to enjoy the audio. Shout if you have some problems.

I've made a post about this, but thought I'd just post it on here also just incase.

I've made the stupid mistake of accidently putting the power lead that goes into the side of the laptop, in a different way than it should have been (Just lined it up to go in, but at a 90degree angle than normal) and It's burned out one of the PLUS(+) terminals inside the power lead part. (See picture below) - It's an easy thing to do, if you look yourself you'll notice how much of a gap there ISN'T if you try to put it in a different way (If you even do try, make sure the power is turned off!!!). Very disappointed about this part of the design. Hopefuly samsung will send me out a new PSU ASAP, as I have too much work to do this week.

If your wondering how I managed to do it, I'd just unplugged for a second to go else where, come back paying no attention picked up the lead put it to the side and bzzzz *electrical smell* it did it :( - like I say, no force or anything.

I'm glad someone has checked the specs of the laptop from Comet. I saw the deal earlier but like the above replies I checked the specs and they appeared different so was a little concerned in making a purchase. I had already emailed Comet and enquired about the spec so I will be interested in a reply if I get one!

Anyway as it seems its all the same laptop I think I will go ahead and make a purchase...when I get paid tomorrow.....

Make sure u join quidco and then click on the comet link via quidco to get the discount (which takes a couple months to process before you actually get it, but it'll be about £33 cashback eventually).

This whole business with the different versions of the 700G7A is horrible when the prices for both versions differ so wildly depending on which retailer you go to. What's worse is that Samsung employees themselves will read you specs which are untrue. I was told the s01uk had a 3.1Ghz cpu and a different graphics card to the s02uk. Both of which are untrue.

That is actually true both models will turbo upto 3.1Ghz. As you will see from the link above about the CPU and more CPU details in that link.

The only difference with the 2 models is the version 1 (S01UK) has 2 x 750GB 7200rpm drives = 1.5TB total storage and the version 2 (S02UK) has 2 x 1 TB 5400rpm drives = 2TB total storage. Everything else is exactly the same.

I've sent them an email through there website. I'm just awaiting on a reply. It's crazy that you don't have to put any pressure on it for any of the pins to align up no matter what angle. The pins shouldn't be that far out tbh, should be a bit more padding before hand to stop this sort of stuff!

In the samsung laptop software there is a contact phone number for uk support. Think was the samsung support software or the software users manual.

Very pleased with samsung support so far. I emailed them this morning about 8ish.. Just recieved a reply asking me to confirm my warranty details etc, and once the process is complete they will send mez out a replacement part within the next 7-10 business days :)

EDIT:
Confirmed, Replacement part coming within the next 7-10 working days. Hopefully this one will hold in. Not doing too much intensive work, going to stay away from the games. Not 100% sure which part that pin powers, I assume it's on some sort of 2 rail system, one part powers like the CPU etc, gfx other etc. Who knows :) - I think because I had to bend the pin back, I've revealed a good point of contact for the power to go through, so I hope.

Overall, Fantastic laptop. Think I'll think twice before putting the lead anywhere near the laptop next time!!

I have the S01UK model, but took out 1 of the 750GB HDD, and replaced it with an SSD :)
