Laurence Fox

Ive eventually seen the original interview he was going off on one about and it doesn't paint her in a good light imho. There is a clear suicide link specifically for young men which I think does need research and something doing about it. I don't think being concerned about high male suicide rates makes you anti women personally.

On the suggestion for a dedicated minister to look at these issues, Ms Evans said: 'I think that it feeds into the culture war a little bit, this minister for men argument. '[Mental illness] is a crisis that's endemic throughout the country, not specific to men. And I think a lot of ministers bandy this about to - I'm sorry - make an enemy out of women.'

She is a disgrace. The male suicide rate is 3 times higher than the female suicide rate in this country. It is a crisis more specific to men than women.

The male suicide rate was 15.8 per 100,000**, compared to a female suicide rate of 5.5 per 100,000**.

Doesn't mean a minister needs to exist for it though does it?

It's such performative garbage that really shouldn't be enabled in any way like all the other useless minister positions that seem to exist purely for the benefit of the MP's egos.

As mentioned I'm also happy for equality to be achieved by removing the Minister for Women. That role is a combined role of Minister for Women and Equality. So let's just change the role to Minister for Equality.

Why have the Conservatives cut mental health services to the bone then?

Shamefully, the Tories have cut a quarter of all mental health beds in England since 2010

What about a minister for mental health and the cash to fund it properly? The stigma around the issue sadly still exists and I know as a man that 'a stiff upper lip' is not helpful when it comes to mental health issues, but we men are encouraged to take that attitude.

Yes sounds a good idea.

No idea. I wasn't talking about Tories and mental health services.

Don't let Spraggy in the GBNews thread hear you. He's busy white knighting her because he doesn't like Fox. :)

Feminism is an insidious ideology

Never mind the 'what about the womeenz' comments every time the point was made that both women and men have issues that affect them to different degrees.....

.... how, in 2023, can someone trot out the 15% 'wage gap' lie on the BBC and not get challenged on such nonsence especially from a state owned broadcaster that wants to lecture others on disinformation!

I'm not forced to pay for GB News because I don't watch it (outside of the occasional short clip off some of their more thoughtful presenters like Andrew Doyle on social media).

I am forced to pay for the BBC if I want to watch any live TV however

Therefore the BBC's output like this is of far more concern to me than that musings a former minor actor, cokehead and current media provocateur Fox whoose being an idiot making misogynistic remarks to Wooton (that themselves mirror the sort of remarks his target had made before) when there was no need to 'play the player not the ball' when she had made comments herself that were so easy to be critical off.

And the woman's comment "7 million kids are waiting for prescriptions for mental health.... "

How can she not realise that the wait clearly isn't the real issue there!

That went exactly the way I expected.

Men: We acknowledge women's issues and they need to be addressed. But there are specific problems that men need help with so can we discuss that.
Women: But what about women's problems?

Why would BBC apologise for their guests opinions?

How can you conflate the two?

Two paid GB news presenters talking about a subject

And

Two BBC news guests talking about a subject?

TV shows, including the BBC, have previously apologied for things said by guests.

More so than an apology I would prefer someone point out that statements like "women earn 15% less than men" are objectively false and used in a wilfully misleading manner.

They should also be challenged more robustly about their disregard for the obviously true statement that different issues affect the sexes to different degrees and that issues that affect males note are often dismissed more than thoose that affect women more....

The question about an 'apology' is obviously rhetorical and there to point out the double standards.

They start apologising for that, they would end up apologising for every lie and half truth said by politicians every day on the news, on question time etc.

Had to turn this off about 5 minutes in, the guy came on to talk about mens issues that he's written a book about only to be told he needs to start an organisation about men standing behind women? That's after referencing the 15% pay gap between men and women while ignoring the fact that men work about 20% more hours. Seems like there was an IQ gap on the show as well.

Also regarding Laurence Fox, I don't mind him normally, I agree with him on some issues, it just seemed really unnecessary to say what he did on GB News; he just undermined himself and drowned out any valid points he may have had by being crass and sexist.

Never would have had you down as a Fox fan

The problem with Fox is the difference between being will deal with controversial subjects and just seeking them out so you can say somethings other people will fun outrageous and/ or offensive.

He'd not a particularly great thinker, interviewer or presenter.

His, never that notable, acting career has had a, not that surprising, inverse trajectory to his notoriety as a minor political/ social commentator since 2019/20.

He's not really got much left in him at this point and if his departure from GB News is a permanent one I suspect we wont see much of him outside of stuff posted on some social media sites.

they weren't worth challenging - the women on the right just showed herself up for the intellect she doesn't have - she's like one of the low intellect sounding boards Piers Morgan has on, to make fun of,
(but they don't realise) I think the audience immediately see through this one, and ignores her -
as Vincent said you have warm bodies on Question Time who make similar useless contributions, or they used to before I stopped watching it.
