Le Mans 24 hours

Bad, bad news for Audi.

Wondering if their new design is causing this. There's always contact between cars because of the different classes, kinda inevitable, but something seems to be making the Audis completely flip out on what would normally be a fairly routine shunt.

They all use the HANS device, plus there is a safety cell all around the cockpit.

With these massive accidents they've had in this race it's a damn good job Audi went for a closed cockpit this year.

Did a good job not surprised, after seeing so many f1 crashes. Good job they have these safety cells.

There is nothing routine about being pit moved at 200mph into the wall. Audi's have been unlucky with the two accidents today and it's not going to be because of the design. What we can take from their design though is how amazingly strong the cars are.

Anyone got a video yet? Not seen this?

And for everyone blaming the Ferrari's, the unwritten rule in Sports car racing is that a collision between 2 cars of a different class is ALWAYS the fault of the faster class car. They have the speed to overtake perfectly safely in a straight line, they do not need to take risks while overtaking slower cars.

To be honest, he wasn't taking a risk - certainly no more than usual when overtaking a slower class car. There was plenty of space on the inside, he flashed his lights, then just as he was alongside, the Ferrari moved across on him.

Theres nothing on YT yet, I'm watching the live stream: http://www.dailymotion.com/sas/peugeot-24h-du-mans

There's occasional replays of it.

Just watch the stream, will be replayed again soon enough.

The Ferrari had ample time to see and give room to the Audi, but instead somehow completely didn't see an Audi at night flashing it's very bright lights for a few seconds before cutting up the Audi.

Exactly, and it wasn't until the last moment when the Ferrari moved from left to right. If I was in the Audi I would have done exactly the same thing.

No vid yet, but for those who haven't seen it, this is the aftermath.

What's left of the car is that pile in the top left.
