*** League of Legends ***

'Denying' in HoN takes away from attacking their heroes.
In LoL you have to get sneaky hits in where you can to wear down the enemy.

When you force them to go back due to low HP, it has the same effect basically.

In HoN you generally try to keep one ranged on a lane or someone with a spammable skill to peck at the enemy and handle denies while another hero soaks up the last hits for gold and XP. Really though you should be last hitting, denying AND attacking enemy heroes.

Denies basically cause the enemies to take a gold and xp penalty and the pecking either results in their death or them having to go back. Gold comes a lot easier in LoL I find and having to go back in HoN is basically a disaster because you have to RUN the whole way back and then make it back to your tower (OR buy a teleport stone which you prolly don't want to be spending on because you've just been receiving no G on the lane).

IMO laning is FAR harder in HoN and VERY punishing if you are up against 2 people who are keeping your HP low, denying as much as they can and soaking up last hits. Sometimes I prefer HoN sometimes I prefer LoL. If you're doing badly in HoN it can be hard to get back on your feet and you'll proceed to having a boring and frustrating 15minutes until your team concedes, in LoL it's not over till the fat lady sings most of the time and still being able to turn it around can be massively fun at times.

Nobody was on earlier and needed my LoL fix so went into a Solo ranked game. Found myself as leader of the bans which really don't like and banned shen which one person commented was a Noob ban - not sure if that is true?

Anyway was a really fun game - very intensive, it's a game but you feel everything is hanging on it. We had no tank on our team but both teams worked well and we had the advantage of the towers which lead to a win with kills/deaths being about equal. Smack talk was rife but about 40 mins into the game the players on our team said win or loose they no longer cared as the game had been a lot of fun.

If I end up solo again ranked is the way to go as you can guarantee you're not playing premades which is a big deal. We weren't as coordinated as we are on mumble but neither was the other side and it kept it fair. IMHO their makeup of team was better - they had Xin/Garen/Amumu/Kenen/Akali v us Ashe/Tristana/Zilean (not aware of him saving anyone!)/Twisted Fate/Pantheon

Bit of smack talk in game but all in all fun game :)

they really need to add something to fix the issue with people leaving /dcing games ive had 7 games in a row where I had to play 3 or 4 vs 5 its just silly

A ranked game is more unlikely to have a disconnect as you receive a loss on your elo if you disconnect so once you get to level 30 if you want to play solo then that is the way to go. If you play premade then you shouldn't see many disconnects at all - join us on mumble if you fancy joining our group. Details on the first post.

Havent been playing this much lately, since ranked dropped. I found out my ELO in Normal mode is 1987, and ranked its 1300 floating, I can't stand it. Each ranked game is full of people who do the dumbest of things that its impossible to go the elo rating I should be in, I gave up on it. Sticking to normal mode, intense skilled games to be had, just shame can't ban heros.

The trouble is that in a normal game, if you are solo, you have a high chance of finding yourself in a game of randoms against premades which you're always going to be on the back foot on. If you're playing premades that's a different matter. An ELO of 1300 will place you with the lower tier of people so play style is probably about right :) Carries are the ones who should do well in Solo play

This is the same for me.I always seem to have some1 dc after like 1 or 2 mins then its just on the back foot from there :(
Im all for allowing a re connect but it should be capped at say 2 mins and then people joining a game should have the option to wait for a new game or join now

Probably doesn't deserve it's own thread yet due to lack of details but more confirmation (if more was needed after IceFrog joining Valve) that Valve's DotA game is coming soon from the voice artist behind Duke Nukem.

"Had a great time in Seattle last week recording for DotA. The guys at ValveSoftware are awesome!"
(source)

Will Valve's might and mahoossive user base bury HoN and LoL? Not sure how it will affect their userbases, maybe Valve will just bring in a huge number of new players to the genre. Very interested in seeing what it's like though.

I think a new thread would probably be appropriate. The thread in another forum I track has a reasonable discussion regarding it

New Champion....

Galio, the Sentinel's Sorrow

Champion type: Tank

Runic Skin (Passive):
Galio converts 50% of his total Magic Resistance into Ability Power.

Resolute Smite:
Galio fires a concussive blast from his eyes, slowing and dealing damage to enemies caught near the impact point.

Bulward:
Galio shields an ally Champion, increasing their Armor and Magic Resistance, and restoring Galio's health each time that Champion suffers damage.

Righteous Gust:
Galio claps his wings, unleashing a gust of concussive wind that damages enemies and leaves a directional draft in its wake that increases ally movement speed.

Idol of Durand (Ultimate):
Galio assumes the form of a statue, taunting nearby enemies and storing concussive energy as they attack him. Galio then bursts from his statue shell, releasing the stored energy to damage surrounding foes.

Lore:
Long before the League’s regulation of such magic, mages experimented with the creation of artificial life. Now forbidden, instilling golems with reason was once not so uncommon a practice amongst the more expert of craftsmen. One such visionary was the Demacian artificer, Durand. Peerless at crafting sentient beings, Durand's constructs served as tireless guardians for the border towns of his beloved city-state, affording them protection from their Noxian neighbors. For his own defense, however, Durand kept his magnum opus: Galio. This mighty construct – forged in the image of a gargoyle – kept him safe on his journeys, allowing him to perform his important work without fear of reprisal from those hostile to his homeland. That is, until dealing with his taxing sentinels finally roused the ire of the Noxian High Command.

As Durand crossed the Howling Marsh with his masterwork in tow, he was set upon by Noxian assassins in force. Outnumbered and overwhelmed, Galio looked on in horror as the murderers cut down his charge, executing him swiftly before vanishing back into the mists. Stripped of his reason for being, Galio despaired. For years he remained in solitude, standing vigil over the bones of the master he had failed to protect... a literal monument to his own everlasting shame. Then, on one nondescript day, a sad but determined yordle girl carrying a mighty Demacian crown stopped in the shadow of a great statue to rest. Hidden in plain sight from his unsuspecting visitor, Galio studied the forlorn yordle. She looked as though she too shouldered a tremendous burden. As quietly and as stoically as she had arrived, she departed in the direction of Demacia. This encounter lit a spark in Galio's eye. Remembering the cause that his master had died defending, Galio arose from his silent purgatory and followed in the wake of this brave creature. He had a new reason to live: to join the League of Legends and fight for the will of Demacia.

"There is no such thing as redemption. Only penance." – Galio

How you do this?, as I'd be interested to know mine as I've not really played ranked since the first weekend

Open up your game, navigate to your profile (open your View profile page, click through some of the tabs), close the game.
Go to your League of Legends folder and go to the /air/logs folder. Open the latest file and search for the line "Unranked:rating" , will show the elo.

The other way you can do it is upload your log file to lolbase which now shows ELO on your profile page as well.

Had some good games during the day but absolutely torrid games last thing. The last game was one of those games when we did well up to level 6 and then got crushed. Ohh well cross fingers we have a better experience tonight :)

How can people get to 20+ and still not know who to target first in team fights? And then not listen when you tell them as well. This is my main frustration and probably the biggest reason teams lose games in solo normal.

was playing agaisnt a team who was pretty beat but they tried to backdoor I spotted it early but they seemed to think its a fair thing to do , is this a accepted rule/thing in LoL?

I don't have any problem with teams trying to backdoor, it's a valid tactic as far as I'm concerned. If a team doesn't pay enough attention and leaves the opportunity there then there's no reason why it shouldn't be taken.

I have done it a few times and got abuse for it, but I really don't see the problem.
