---Left 4 Dead 2 Thread---

Why is everyone so opposed to this? Due November (assuming it makes release date), L4D would have been out a year by then, more than enough time to introduce another game.

Speaking for myself, I'm annoyed not because there is a sequel coming, but rather because it probably means that L4D will be abandoned now - no more major tweaks, no more DLC. For a game where much was promised in terms of additional content, it just smacks of being a bit cheeky on Valve's part.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head. Having a sequel is great news and makes sense as Valve is a business after all, but it's the fact that the old game is likely to be abandoned now which grinds my own gears. If I'm proved wrong and the original L4D continues to be improved and updated as well, then I don't mind the sequel tbh and in all honestly, I am looking forward to this.

if they managed it like Relic have with CoH, it could work out well for vavle

ie, make both games share the front screen, then have unlockable areas tied to your account.

the L4D2 would have to be £15 for this model to work

i laughed at a comment someone made on another forum..

i for one cant wait.

ever since i got killing floor i havent played l4d.

for the people that think it will be rubbish.......dont buy it then !

Looks good but I can't help but be annoyed that its coming out so early, paid £32 for l4d when it came out only 8 months ago.

And how many hours have you played L4D in the past 8 months?

By the time L4D2 comes out I would have said the average gamer will have spent about 100 hours or more playing the original over the course of 12 months. So you're looking at maybe 32p or less per hour, compared with £4 an hour for the cinema...

It's good value for money, whatever way you look at it. Especially considering the quality of the game. Whatsmore, Valve are dedicating time to improving it.

And I still can't get the mentality of "well, there's £32 down the drain" - L4D will still work, will still be playable, and will still have popular servers for months to come. L4D was not perfect, by any means - I am glad that they are bringing out a new version with improvements, because I am a sane, logical person.

Guess you just can't please some people.

thing is a lot of l4dead peeps were waiting for the magical mods and maps to come out which basically would have made it a decent game . yet they announce there going to basically bring out another game in the period weve all been waiting for the extra content from the first game. this is th main reason people are annoyed .

basically theyve had the content and thought why release a free update when we can sell million more games instead . i for one wont be buying it.

I've said it before in this thread and i'll say it again, it's not the fact that they're releasing a new game that I have no intention of buying (I will be buying it), it just means that the added content that was promised to the players of the old game is not as likely to come out, because Valve'll want people to buy the new one.

I paid £26 for Left 4 Dead and already it's got over 100 hours of play from me. I would have been happy paying double that.

I'm amazed and slightly saddened at the amount of whining. L4D is a huge money-spinner, why not make another game out of it? Valve are not a charity: they're there to make money, after all. They have never made a bad game and L4D2 is sure to be excellent. The original isn't going anywhere and will remain popular for years to come.

Whilst I agree that they should've released DLC in the form of maps/campaigns, I don't agree that they should not release a sequel a year later.

I don't know whether this is the DLC bundled in to a new game. There could be big changes to the graphics or gameplay that wouldn't allow both to run in tandem.

Ah well, it's still five months off, and with the level editor being released we should have some new maps shortly anyways :)

Well, how dare a business try to make money.

I like the sound of that. I think this whole mess could be ironed out with a little thought. I'd ungrudgingly pay full whack if we could select L4D campaigns in a L4D2 lobby. I know it sounds trivial, but that way the old game doesn't fade into the mist. I suppose that would upset newcomers to the game though.

For those that are still using the "I got my monies worth, why can't they make a new one if they want?" and "if you don't like it don't buy it" cards, you are still completely misunderstanding. We know this game is going to be great, we know it's easily going to be worth it's price tag, we just don't want to lose the old game, many of us don't want a new and improved version to replace the old, we just want more content to play along side the old.

We still don't know exactly how Valve are going to play this, but I would fully expect people to be vocal about the issues above.

Bored of L4D already, roll on L4D2.

I'm hoping it has some substantial changes to gameplay/graphics otherwise I will be sorely dissapointed.

SNIPPED from Steam forums.

Notice that it will allow community maps created with the SDK. By inference then this version of L4D is probably based on the same tech as the last one and is in fact a glorified map pack/update.

I think they should have updated the original with free DLC and campaigns before even contemplating this. And to call it L4D2 when there are no real significant changes to engine/tech/graphics/gameplay is basically a cash in whichever way you spin it.

I got quickly bored of the first (due to lack of campaigns mostly) and unless the community and valve release regular updates I know I'll get bored by the second one too.

Well, how dare a business try to make money.

Again you miss the point.

Here was the promise: http://www.videogamer.com/xbox360/left_4_dead/news/valve_details_post_left_4_dead_launch_plans.html

And they will undoubtedly not keep it. The new game looks good and as you've pointed out quite obviously, they are a business, BUT are they really going to release all these things for L4D now seeing that L4D2 is now just round the corner? No. That is what is annoying.
