---Left 4 Dead 2 Thread---

My problem isn't with the new game at all, it's with the fact that we were promised new stuff for the original and they haven't delivered.....anything really.

Instead they spent all their time making this while leaving us to believe more was coming.

have to say the new survivors look rubbish to me, though the other new features sound pretty good

I want Bill back, although they will probably do custom models as DLC/add on or something.

I welcome a new version of L4D, but I think all people with the original should get 50% off

so if u get left 4 dead 1 included in a l4d2 box so what happens when u have l4d1 already.

probably be the same scenario as orange box u will be able to give your l4d1 away as theres no point keeping two of them ?

- New ranged weapons: pistols, silenced SMG, new shotgun, new sniper rifle.

Will work with community maps from the current one
- Left 4 Dead 1 content may be included in the DVD, so that Xbox players will not have to switch DVDs to play the old content.

The new weapons just sound like the old ones to me. I mean how different can a new shotgun be to the previous 2?

The other point though sounds like to me like providing you have L4d 1 installed you'll be able to play the current campaigns. heres hoping ;)

why are people moaing, developers bring out new games every year, Fifa, COD, etc. nobody is forcing you to buy L4D2 so why every is acting like babys over the announcement.

Frankly, i'm confused as to why they're still developing games on Source. Surely it's time for an upgrade. I mean yeah, it looks nice still but really, things have changed since that was released.

Maybe Valve will allow users to upgrade to L4DII. Nothing is known at this point in time about how it will work, Valve seems very good at looking after customers (free DLC for L4D is a good indication of this) and I am sure they will not burn the end consumer.

They seem a lot more focused on the consumer than almost any other developer.

You can thank consoles for that. I thought I could always count on Valve to put PCs first, but I don't think we're going to be seeing any major graphical upgrades until the next generation of consoles are released. :(

Wow this did shock me last night and I felt a mixture of emotions. I haven't seen all the vids but have read about the "new game".

Firstly, I'll say I'm a huge valve fanboy, own loads of games through steam.
Secondly, I love L4D and have had hundreds of hours play time from it, for £33 quid that was a bargain! I'll probaly get the second game for $10 on this basis alone...

Now, onto the parts of this announcement that have me concerned:

- Still same old source engine. It was getting old for L4D and although still looks great a new chargable game based on the same concept/engine as before?

- New characters & new weapons. Sounds like new/different skins for the existing models, which tbh is DLC material.

- I don't think we will see any major updates now, I think with the announcement of the new game and the "Survivor DLC" being released ~last month, we can officially expect jack ****.

Some things that do sound good:

- New Campaigns + Maps
- New AI Director
- New boss infected
- New game mode

End of the day I think it's a little cheap as some of the content from new game sounds like it should have been released on DLC for L4D. Especially with the promises they made and the improvements that still need to be made to the original game.

Hell, the first game just lacked content and maps - all of which could have been rectified if Valve had released a PROPER SDK for developers/modders, instead of this "Dev Kit Tool to customise your weapon skins, lol" slap in the face we all received.

I suppose it has now become apparent why they didn't release a full SDK.

Having said that, this is how developers earn their money and if they are offering it to me at discount rates for being a pro steam user then fair enough!

Now...to get wet with anticipation...

"One of the things that we're doing is we seem to be in a transition between games as a package product and games more of a service. So if you look at Team Fortress 2, one of things that's really helped grow the community is the continuous updates, where we release new maps, new character classes, new unlockables, new weapons. And we tell the stories about the characters, like the meet the sniper, or meet the sandwich. And that ongoing delivery of content really seems to grow the community.

"So each time we've released one of those for Team Fortress 2 we've seen about a 20% increase in the number of people who are playing online. And that number is really important because it determines how many community created maps there are, how many servers are running, and so on. So we'll do the same thing with Left 4 Dead where we'll have the initial release and then we'll release more movies, more characters, more weapons, unlockables, achievements, because that's the way you continue to grow a community over time."

Or we'll take those things and package them into an entirely new game instead.

that's the beauty of source, they can keep upgrading components inside it

source has come a long way since HL2 was released, and will continue to be developed

To the people that say this is too soon: yeah I can see what you mean but I personally have already spend 100's of hours playing the game and people are already starting to move away from it in favor of other games. By the time this comes out my may find that we are all bored of the original and cant wait for the new stuff to tear each other apart with (but I really dont want to be bored of this great game)

L4D2 is an exciting prospect but will wait and see what exactly it has to offer and for what price before I decide whether ive been cheated/milked or not. I think/hope L4D is valued by valve enough not to **** up a potencially massive brand
