There seems to be a fair few good 32" 4k 144hz options coming fairly soon, which I might hold out for. The dream would be an Asus ROG Swift PG32UQX, but I'm not quite ready to drop 3k on a monitor.
2k would be still major amount for its flaws and weaknesses.
For example response times just aren't up to modern level.
And despite of hype that FALD still has heavy bloom/halos around compact high contrast objects on dark background.
No doubt excarberated by that insane nuclear explosion brightness.
We would simply need like 100+k backlight zones for FALD to start keep blooming/halos under control.
Unfortunately also other 32 inchers seem to be somewhat so and so.
PG32UQ's panel is also average in response times and variable overdrive feature advertised by Asus seem to be badly adjusted/bugged:
In TFTcentral review response time actually improved slightly at low hertzes, but overshoot creeps in already at 100Hz.
Hopefully Asus can fix that with firmare update and lower overdrive starting from 100Hz and slightly increase overdrive above that.
(same panel using Viewsonic XG320U should have similar response times according to Chinese review)
Innolux panel FI32U has better response times... With too agressive overdrive making overshoot rear up its ugly head if refresh rate drops even to 100Hz!
And only lower overdrive option is disabling it which makes it again slow at 144Hz.
Also colour gamut is only mid wide behind 27" LG and especially AU Optronics panel.
In this situation one can only be seriously disappointed to panel and monitor manufacturers.
They've been promising for years that high refresh rate 4K monitors are under work.
And now when they start appearing it looks like they're some old tech from rear rooms of warehouses.
