LG 34GK950F vs Alienware AW3420DW

Nice!! And damn, you're at 5.2 GHZ on your 8086k... :)

I just found another new monitor due in June, and it sounds really good... (I'm looking for ultra-wide for sim car racing)
The Agon AG353UCG, 35", 21x9, VA, G Sync, 4 USB3.1, 3 yr warranty, very fast refresh 160-200, HDR1000, close to 100% DCI-P3 color, BUT, SUPER expensive.

I think the monitor you linked will be slightly out of budget :).

Yeah, my 8086K is a good chip, its 1.3V for 5.2GHZ

Just ordered the Alienware, used student discount and cashback to get it down to £900. Looks like a solid monitor. I did consider the LG but I prefer the AW look and Dell build quality / customer service.

How long before an affordable panel that can make use of it becomes available though?

Guesswork, but I'm thinking 2nd/3rd quarter 2021...and that might be optimistic.

At my computer desk right now, about two feet away from my 27" Acer XB271HU. It's been awesome for almost 3 1/2 yrs now. I think I can hold off a bit.

AW3420DW - Can you use Freesync with this monitor? I can get this for 3 fat ladies with a promo, but only have Vega 56 (with i7 2600k)

I'm looking for a cheeky upgrade.
Also I see a few deals on 34 wide on here around the £400 mark. Is the above 2 monitors a lot better than those as they are twice the price and a little more?

Thanks in advance

This is it.

They aren't twice as good are they.

If I was buying today, after my research, it would be one of these 34/35" ultra-wides (in no particular order)...
*Acer X35
*Alienware AW3420DW
*Agon AG353UCG
*Asus PG35VQ
*Acer X34
*LG 34GN850-B

I was about to order the Alienware AW3420DW however say it was GSync and I have a Vega 56
Do they do Frysnc version of this. Annoying you have to choose between them as not sure if I will go Green or Red for my next graphics card and this sort of locks you in.
Shame, but don't want to pay for a premium feature if I can't use it.

It supports freesync too, even though it is not advertised (freesync 1 rather than 2 I think)

Source: I have this monitor with a Radeon VII

can anybody confirm if aw3420dw is purchased not from dell if you get the 3yr advance replacement warranty, or do you need to get it direct from Dell for this?

May be easier to open a chat with Dell CS and ask tbh.

Can someone tell me if the Alienware AW3420DW uses the same screen as the LG34GK950F?

I.E would the image quality and colour wise be the same if not very similar? I know they both use some sort of Nano IPS and some have said they use the same screen?

If it was between the AW3420DW for ~£780 or preordering the 34GN850 for £970, what would people go for? Really can't decide. Dell is so cheap due to 15% student discount + Amex have a £100 statement credit offer. But I've yet to understand how good this refreshed LG is.

Would be running 5700 XT and have my gaming PC + Macbook Pro hooked up (HDMI 1.4 on the Dell limits refresh to 50Hz so would need to swap the displayport input when switching). Would be betting on Freesync working.

@Dovaking14 I had the same question. People say it does, but the reviews on rtings.com differ quite significantly. I ended up asking on Reddit. https://www.reddit.com/r/ultrawidem...20dw_and_34gk950f_review_discrepancy_despite/

Yeah it’s a little confusing but from my understanding some say the colour is better on the LG? Personally I’d be using it mostly for gaming but I’d like to enjoy a good movie on it also.

I’m kinda in the same shoes, been looking at the Alienware, and the two LG models (GK950 and GN850) but can’t make up my mind.
