LG 38GL950G - 3840x1600/G-Sync/144Hz

i didnt mean that it sound/read harshly. i read this:

"+ Sphere Lighting (to me is the best feature of them all). Go for Video Sync Mode when in Full Screen. It's very nice experience."
" Image Quality and Colors. I recommend Setting Digital Vibrance to 66 and gamma to 0.85 (Nvidia Panel)"
"Vertical Scan lines & Screen Flicker when Gsync Module is Cold (around 10 minutes)."
"- Gamma Mode 3 is not dark enough like x34 is. This can be corrected by making 2 necessary Actions: : Go Nvidia Panel - Display - Adjust desktop color settings - drop GAMMA from 1.00 to 0.85"

I dont have one, yet, so i'm just waiting to see what you think :)

No worries bud, I didnt take it like that, where did you read the above from? I must have missed it!

Ok yeah ghosting and smearing is what response rate will affect, but for me fast is great so that’s what I use. If you can see ghosting then perhaps you’re more sensitive to it, or you may have brightness and contrast settings up higher than me. TFT central has some guidance on their values after calibrating so that’s a good place to start. If you are in a bright room you might need higher values, but usually slightly lower values will give better accuracy and contrast (and ghosting or haloing).

As for the lighting effects in video mode, pretty sure they are just in a dark room there. :)

Yep this is what I suspect also bud. Its a very subjective matter and depends on personal taste for sure. I think Fast actually is good. Thanks for the advice on TFT central, I read their article and didnt realise how indepth they went. Cheers for your advice.

It's definitely not cheap!

Indeed. But great monitor nonetheless :)

Right! Managed to get some photos taken! Here you go folks.

As I mentioned earlier I replaced my Inno3D X2 2080 RTX (will be on MM soon - how much can I get for this?) with a MSI Trio 2080 Ti RTX.

I just did an overdue tidy up.
By the way you know there is a hook you can use to clip your mouse cable to under the monitor? (instead of using the mouse cable stand which you have?)

Incidentally, just came back to my PC now and this time, for some reason the resolution was defaulted by to 1024 x 768 @ 60Hz, any ideas what this could be?

You know, I was thinking the same thing when I was replacing it with my Agon 35" monitor.
The TV I have next to the monitor is a 42" TV so that should give you some idea how big this thing is...
They are both the same length (Around 90cm).

Didn’t know about the cable hanger, very handy. I like my bungee now I have it tho, it’s sprung so allows for a bit more mouse travel.

The resolution reset thing is unusual. Perhaps windows or your nvidia drivers detected a change in hardware? Not sure tbh. Hopefully a one off for you dude. Do you have the latest firmware on the panel? Could be worth checking although mine arrived up to date.

Agree on the size btw, coming from a 49” ultra mega wide screen (which I absolutely love) it initially felt like a bit of a downgrade, but the reality is that the resolution and size is bang on and imo more size would warrant more pixels at a desk. Good thing is the size shouldn’t be prohibitive to most folk whereas I could see people deciding against the 49” Samsung screens because of it.

Ahh yes I remember you had the older variant of the 49 - the CHG90 one. It was a great monitor but the resolution difference between the newer 49 with the higher pixel res 5120 x 1440 and the older generation is night and day.

You are 100% correct though and that most people could easily fit in the 38 inch LG compared to the 49.

I also use an asus 43 4k 120Hz monitor as well so can imagine the height.

Setup looks lovely though.

Sibbers - any idea why in FPS profile you cant change the Gamma, Color Temp and RGB settings in the OSD?

expect it’ll be an optimised preset that changes a bunch of settings to get shooters to be competitive.

I think you can adjust them in most of the other modes, but I just set it custom and went from there. Not touching any settings now, I’m all set now. :)

Cheers Sibbers. Is there a "custom" profile per se or you just used one profile and just changed it to your liking? (Can it be renamed?)

it was in the description for the youtube vid, you have to hit, "show more" or whatever it's called.

Is your desk set up in your study, Sharps or something? Did you fit it yourself?

Cheers frustin.
Yep we had the study fitted.

Yeah, that was deffo the other screen that had my interest, and all those extra pixels would be great for productivity. A lot to drive (even more than this screen) and in the end it was being able to keep the responsiveness of the older 49” panel and go even quicker with the refresh rate that tipped me this way. If I’d had the newer 49” screen I probably would have just stuck with it. I don’t really want to sell the other screen as it’s so good, especially for driving games like assetto corsa, but I can’t really keep so I’ll have to do the ebay thing soon I suppose. Ugh. Heh.

Cavallino, there is a custom setting yep. Pretty sure you can modify others though, from memory I think it’s something like “gamer 1” etc but I went with custom and just got myself set. Was really impressed with how little fiddling I had to do, but the 38GL950 and the CHG90 have they same controls and use the same terminology so I was already pretty familiar. As screens go, it’s a great menu system so glad to have been able to keep it.

Are you starting to feel settled with yours now? I've only really played CODMW and PUBG so far, but they play brilliantly and the aspect ratio of this screen is perfect. Not tried other game types yet. General use is perfect tho.

Hmm I cant find a setting called "Custom". I see:
  • Gamer 1
  • Gamer 2
  • FPS
  • RTS
  • Reader
  • sRGB

Yep agreed. Menu system is awesome and yes getting settled with it.

Just fine tuning settings, colours etc.

Would be good if you wouldnt mind telling me what settings you are running on yours?

CODMW is just frikkin awesome and pure joy to play.
Tempted to go back and play GTA5 again in full detailed goodness actually!

Got mine last week and the screen is stunning however it's got to go back as it's started making what can best be described as a rattle, likely from the cooling fan.

Here's a shakeycam video of the sound: https://photos.app.goo.gl/yrCbRSY8UW8HM9AS9

Updated as it got noisier last night: https://photos.app.goo.gl/HU6nrmLsdk2eJ1Du5

Really dissapointing/annoying/frustrating as everything else about it is perfect. It's the first IPS I've ever seen with almost zero backlight bleed so now I'm worried a replacement unit is going to be worse.

Oops, you're absolutely right - I have the same, I got the custom from the RGB settings and am on Gamer 1.

My settings are:

Overclock - On
Black Stabilizer - Off
Response time - Fast
Brightness - 17
Gamma - mode 2
Colour Temp - Custom ;)
RGB - R 49, G48, B 43
Variable Backlight - Faster (Gaming)

And then in my video card settings I have Vsync set to off and Gsync enabled. I've been setting in game frame caps to 157 as well, as I read that helps Gsync do it's thing but honestly I don't really know for sure if that's necessary or not. The RGB settings will vary from panel to panel, but for me that gets a slightly warm hue with pretty accurate whites.

Yep I wouldnt accept that.
Honestly speaking I cant hear any sound from the monitor!
You guys must have ultra sensitive hearing :D
(And Ive just swapped my case fans for some ultra quiet noise blocker fans....)

Where are you Sibbers :) ?

Yeah same man, I’m super sensitive to noise and my PC is silly quiet With water cooling and slow spinning noctua fans and I’m not able to tell there is a fan in the screen so hearing it isn’t normal imo. I’ve tried to figure out where it might be and cant, so it’s deffo quiet.

Where am I Cavallino? West London fella! :)
