LG 38GN950-B

Can you explain why you want Vsync on w/ G-Sync?

Doing my research online says the reason is for when the refresh rate goes higher than the monitor's maximum refresh rate, it will kick in. Where as G-sync will kick in, within the monitors refresh rate range.

If I cap my frame rates to @ or below the native refresh rate, then wouldn't V-sync be pointless because my frames would never exceed the monitors max?

Also, I'm reading you turn V-sync off in game, but on in Windows. This is very confusing.

here you go.

watch the whole thing, very informative. also watch other videos from him, the guy is a very valuable resource.

38GN950-B "black stain" defect (center of photo). When changing viewing angle I can tell the "stain" is a few layers deep and not near the surface. What is this called? Guess I'll be returning to costco :/

OK I've tried attached the image again. It's like a black dull spot somewhere beneath the front layer; maybe dust or something.

Sorry about the failed photos. It looks like a smudge of grease or dust but it's inside so I can't clean it. Definitely will return the 38GN and probably motivate me to crack open the GL and make a better cooling solution.

I would be surprised if it does at this rate. No word of it yet.

On the other side, I justed tested this panel.
Very happy with it so far.

You've been quite investigative about all the potential issues it could have, so be sure to report back in detail! I ended up holding off for a while so seeing more samples in the wild would be good.

Right off the bat, very happy, sometimes I think there could be a little vignetting (or just perhaps I am trying to find a problem where none exists!) but otherwise this is a very solid monitor and I honestly dont see any difference between it and the GL. Except of course this has no fan!
Im wondering about some people saying the stability of the monitor is not good, cant say I agree honestly, very solid for me!
The words "buttery" and "smooth" come to mind when I have the Gsync/adaptive sync on.
Will report more in the morning!

Fantastic work to everyone for all the information. I can get an LG38 or a G9 as its my bday next month. Have to admit with all the issues its pushing me to a G9. But the LG38 does look nice as well ! decisions decisions.

Ah cheers Tephnos, is there any reason why I wouldnt want to switch on 160Hz?
Doesnt seem like there is any reason not to?

No reason not to, the vast majority of content is all made for 8bit anyway.

What issues? The G9 has been recalled due to something like the adhesive coming off the panel!

Ahh sorry i was worried about the fan noise and failing. I know some of you are on your second or third panel.

I love the samsung 49 series always have since I had the very first gen and the second gen.

Va blacks are big plus for me . The fact the G9 is £500 cheaper RRP wise as well against the 38 GL

Wrong panel. This is the 38GN, not the 38GL. 38GN does not have fans.

And fair enough. I find the 32:9 1440p a bit too letterbox like for me, like 21:9 at 29". If they did 1600p 32:9 I'd be all over it.
