LG 42-inch OLED

But what kind of OLED? JOLED or from their own OLED?

And indeed, patents holds back innovations big time.

I don't think anything was said in the rumours, perhaps their own LG panels cut from the same mother glass units from the larger OLED screens like 83".

They weren't talking about the current OLED monitors which are JOLED? I'd welcome the 32C3 tbh if LG's OLED because they look much better than JOLED. JOLED are absurdly expensive it won't get any better and it's been since the first announcement from 2018. We'll see if 32C3 will actually happen next year. For now, 42".

I currently use a 40 inch 4k monitor. I will most certainly be getting this. 42 inch 4k oled at 120hz is just perfect.

Release day buy for me

Don't think it was those JOLEDs, these were just cuts from the existing LG OLED TVs, so like the mini version of the 42" OLED.

Yeah id like to get the 31" or smaller for main daily PC use, next to it the 42" LG OLED, its what you stare at the most so why not get the best quality:)

Just came across this website during search to new news:
https://tftcentral.co.uk/news/lg-c2-oled-tv-line-up-for-2022-including-the-42-sized-oled42c2

The rear of the 42C2 is actually interesting and also much more convenient too for cables and such. And this makes VESA stand probably even more better. But this type of leg stands, I mean how they are designed is different from the leg stand of my parents their tv. Quite interesting.

I was pretty certain of buying this (well when it has its first sale as want it under £1000) as a PC monitor, but knowing it doesn't seem to feature the EVO panel/tech of the higher C2 range is disappointing. Think anything QD-OLED is just going to be mental pricing for the first gen and doubt I can keep waiting...

I'm not sure it's that important, the peak brightness of the non-EVO panel is pretty solid compared to most PC monitors out there, and you're sat up close so don't really need retina searing brightness.

Yeah you are probably right, just made it more wait and see rather than must-buy for myself especially with the Sony XR-42A90K existing...

Also worth noting that LG already started to use Evo panels in there C1s last year, its probably why many did not notice too much difference it any since pretty much all LG OLEDS moved over to the Evos.

While many have suggested the LG 42" won't use the Evo panel, Vincent suggested it may still use it so its not 100% confirmed what panel type it is. Its a bit like the Sony 42" OLED, some have said it will have a heatsink and others said nope.

Its possible the 42" does not need the heatsink or Evo but sure it would have been an nice addition.

Check Silvers post above, the 42" OLED has Evo written all over it in the specs and name, so hopefully LG site hopefully is more official. Obviously we will find out in the official specs, so just need to sit tight.

I just found a neat website with the measurements in metrics (cm) and also to see the 42" in detail:
https://lgvirtualstudio-he.com/ces/tvs?category=OLED&product=C2

Nice spotting, 42" OLED has Evo mentioned in its specs. The lower end panels A2 and B2 don't mention Evo panels and have the slower cpu.

I like how LG designers put all the hdmi ports on the side, much more easier then trying to fumble around from the back or underneath looking at sony
designers here. The 42" is pretty much exact same size as my 43" LED TV so should be a direct swap size wise for me which is perfect.

Appreciate the links, I'm sure they'll eventually confirm the specs - I just get the impression that Evo and OLED.EX are 2 different things and not meant to be interchanged - not 100% sure if the 42"/48" have both.

Awesome news and im sure it will eat the G8 for breakfast, and so much cheaper - so we can buy even lunch and dinner to top it off!
This will be a killer for desktop gaming!

Will definetly keep my PG279Q for work tho. Better size for that plus never think about burn in!
This baby will be pure gaming only. And my CX 55 will be proud to get a little brother!

Yeah, this design comes totally unexpected to me and I was worried about the back too, also because of the VESA holes. The 48" for example has inconvenient VESA position and the 42" has them like any LCD TV has which is a good thing. And indeed, look at the back of the 42C2, OLED tvs are supposed to be very thin but this one is fat so it should have a heatsink. But I'm not surprised because the C1 stays the most popular.

Yesterday I measured and it seems the 42" is much better than 48".

I'm pretty sure too. The OLED EX is supposed to be 30% brighter and I don't think that's a good thing to use as a monitor. Anyway, even "low-end" OLED is miles better than any LED LCD.

It's also worth noting that LG Electronics is the manufacturer of the 42-inch OLED panel not LG display. That means the displays will be available to other brands like Sony and Panasonic, both of whom currently use LG Display OLED panels,:p

Yeah, we should all just want/need the same thing, right?
No, if you want a 27inch oled you can buy the 27EP950-B, but it capped @60hz if want 120hz you have to buy the 48/42 OLED version
