LG 42-inch OLED

I've had 2 Sony OLEDs now and hammered the PlayStation on them and not had any issues to be fair. It's the thought of taskbars being on for hours on end that worries me. Will let a few guinea pigs try them out first :D
For taskbars, I already got a portable monitor for that. It's a tablet+monitor in one, 13". Any portable will do just fine for light tasks like browsing, text writing and so on. When I want to game or watch netflix, I'll just switch to the tv.

Going to be spending a long time in Figma with common bits of the UI displayed a lot. If my wife wouldn't disembowel me I'd consider the Apple XDR :D

There will always be a task bar or TV logo etc

Pixel shift should shift any static pixels by one or 2 pixels, those pixels should be refreshed. Pixel refresher after the TV is switched off does the entire screen also, ABL should also reduce any overly brightness which could damage or wear those pixels also. Whole slew of tech or the entire kitchen sink as I call it to prevent it.

If we do start getting burn in complaints in 2023/4 ill run away from here :D

Apple XDR! Totally forgot about that display but the price is simply putting off big time. There is one with glossy display and the other matte? The price difference tho... They make 42C2 damn cheap and low-budget lol

Yeah seen that Linus video, it felt a bit of a money grab video tbf since they started off the video saying burn in is an issue and your OLED screen will last a year or 2 then slowly started to talk about features that can prevent it, then ran the full pixel refresh and pretty much fixed it.... albeit with some sharpness loss.

They did not really compare that sharpness loss in depth with picture comparisons for very long.

How come also VT burn in test, which appears more accurate since he uses 3 different channel for 20hrs for 6 months showed no burn in or sharpness loss
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlP2kwNqXNA

Its possible a more detailed image quality testing needs to be done from day 1 to 1 year etc, not sure anyone has done that to see OLED pixel degradation, maybe VT might consider it, id take his word other Linus or Rtings testing any day.

Well he didn't use it as a monitor for any length of time? Just seemed to cycle between 3 channels?

While for Linus it was using the OLED as a monitor for work/gaming and found he had banding where the windows were tiled as part of his regular usage...

I hear ya, just think its sketchy his video especially the way its done. What about all those C9 2019 LG OLED owners or even CX 2020 LG owners using it as an PC monitor, don't think anyone noticed any issues?

I agree though we can't be 100% of burn in or other issues for long term monitor usage or media playback even, this is why its still good to have that JL insurance policy or buying from a decent retailer like hot Curries/Costcu that hopefully wont quibble as much.

Before you jump on evo:) OLED evo is technically LG’s second-generation OLED panel that mainly focuses on brightness...
If that OLED design is capable to operating at higher brightness, that should be good news for endurance at normal use brightness.
(because of running at lower stress level compared to older panel)

I think only JL provide that specific additional insurance that covers burn-in, Currys/Costco pretty sure don't and while Costco are good with returns I suspect burn-in issues wouldn't led to an easy return.

Whatever the case I wouldn't mention using the OLED TV as a monitor for any claim...

Yeah no burn in cover with those guys, but currys and costco, they have been overall pretty decent lately in regards to just repairing OLED panels even ones with burn in well according to the Avforums threads.

You do get some horror stories but usually its due to covid delays or lost screens at times, otherwise generally good. Cost very good customer services even better then Hot curries id say.

Not sure how useful this is:
LG OLED.EX is a LG Display brand, while LG OLED Evo is a LG Electronics brand. It does appear C2/G2 will use the OLED.EX panels based on what VT says, but I guess until people start testing these its probably 99% correct...

I have been using my 55CX for over a year as a PC monitor without any issues,:)

When a person max the brightness the ABL will kick in to save the pixel from wearing out and no you can't turn it off:)

Mr Lewis has pre-order of the 48" C2 today, says 5 weeks due @ 1.4k. It has the word Evo all over it so at least it has Evo panel inside.

Probably means the 42" is due next, perhaps March/April will see the pre order pop up, doubt it will be 1K sadly, perhaps 1.3k

Yeah, that is sad. Was hoping for £999. I had the opportunity to pick up the 48” C1 recently for £7xx but did not bother.

I think I will find it hard to swallow paying a four figure sum for the 42” on release. We all know in 6-12 months it will be £700-£800 unless there is serious shortage keeping the price high.

Yeah really was hoping price tag would be 1k, so was VT via his twitter post few hours ago here:

A few guys on hotuk deals are doing their discount/code hunting season, you could sell off the free LG soundbar for £100-150 on ebay perhaps, also if you know anyone with employees discount of perkbox, you can get 5% off JL vouchers so I think if my google math right 1.3k JL vouchers should be 65 quid.

With some work maybe net £200+ off the JL price tag.

For now it's way too early and today we just started 1st of the month February. I don't know how much the 48C1 was priced at launch but maybe they keep the launch price of C1. We'll have to wait till March/April to see the actual prices of the 42".
