LG 42-inch OLED

Now I just need to figure out how to stop my CX/C2 remotes from interfering with each other without having to unplug one of them... grr

Update

The best I've got it so far is both remotes control their respective TV's. However, the red on/off buttons on either remote operate both tv's to switch off and on.

I have to manually turn on the TV's using the button on the TV itself, and then the remotes will only control their own panels. Still annoying but means I can function each TV separately with their own remote.

Mine arrived today. 03/22 manu date. 10min pixel refresh time. Seems like it's the new panel then. After reading some of that post, it does make sense that the reduction in time is the later spec.

Compared to say my aw3423dw does it for around 7mins every 4 hours or so.

Mental. I got mine last week and was built in August 2022.

Yeah I read the same thing but that post I mentioned last week, that guy sounds like an engineer or LG employee, he knows his stuff inside and out and hopefully he is right and we get that firmware that fixes it very soon. Calman hopefully also then release an update for their software.

I wish I had the calibration know how to answer your previous questions and will probably run into those issues also since am going to give it a bash myself, but Baddass hopefully gets a chance to answer your post.

Does the patterns from calman and off the usb stick not work properly with the C2, Calman and x-rite then?

not tried yet by using the usb stick. Most of the patterns are there and work but some are totally missing and you come to a strop. In saying that it was late and couldnt be bothered to follow online video so I may have messed something lol

Part of me wants to exchange lol but big part of me is thinking what's the point, TV is in perfect condition, all working as intended. And no previous run time hours except my usage (as it should be being brand new).

And having learned what R3X has said regarding the latest between the panel types, guess there's not much point. I won't see any difference visually.

Clearly been sitting somewhere in a warehouse somewhere and not been allocated till now lol

Did you try posting on AVS community thread? Those guys love their LG OLED a bit too much

quick google here some others had similar issues with C1 and CX magic remotes, no real fixes but some work arounds were mentioned there might be worth trying.

ahh cool, not gone through anything my end but seen calman vids. I am waiting for calman to hopefully get the updated version out and LG firmware out, hopefully then give TFT centrals calibration guide a full test, its looking like its the best guide on the internet.

Did anyone else get a phone call on the day of their delivery with JL and have it canceled due to them running out of time? My time slot was 3pm-5pm, they called me at 4pm on Wednesday. I had to then rebook with the next available day being two days later (Today).

No mine arrived during the time slot that was originally specified. To be fair they kept me updated with the whole process and the driver called 20mins before arrival.

Can't fault their communication. I have a new time slot 12-1pm today.
Not in any rush, as I have been busy with other toys that consume a lot of time...

It arrived! Installed, updated software and striaght into the service menu.
Also as others have mentioned, it seems true about the pixel refresh only saying 10mins and not an hour.
(Thing is, in the 15 months of having the C1 48", I've never used it. Only the 5min screen refresher that pops up now and again.)

Looks like we have the WBE/EX panel, manufacture date: 07/2022

Probably going to have 100s of future post asking which panel is inside, just ignore service codes, blue tints, pink tints, barcodes, stickers, manufacturer dates. Just re-link to this post.

Check under General>OLED Care>OLED Panel Care>Pixel Cleaning> then read the bit on top with pixel cleaning (might be different per TV and model)

If it reads 60 minutes you have the older panel (WBC and WBE), if it says 10 minutes then its the newer panel(OLED.EX)

Not that there is any real major difference still. I believe from 2023 most LG TVs will be on the OLED.EX panel so hopefully these questions reduce.

How confident are we of that info btw? My panel was March 2022, but says 10 minutes. Doesn't the data of manufacturer of my panel suggest it's an older one?

Thought I'd share some of my thoughts, been using my 42" C2 for around a a few days now. I used it mainly for productivity, but do game on it too. I have a 60cm depth desk, but it's right back against the wall.

The TV itself just looks great! Super slim and looks amazing on the desk. The picture quality etc is also fantastic. Games look fantastic, vibrant and super smooth with the 120hz.

I am finding some issues with the sheer size of it though. I'm not sure my desk being another 20cm deep would make a huge difference, but it might. Nevertheless, the screen feels probably too large for a productivity monitor for me at the moment. I went from a curved 34" 21:9 LG IPS Ultrawide. The huge increase in the screen real estate is pretty much all vertical and I am not finding that space massively usable. What I find I am doing is almost forcing myself to put stuff (Inbox, Slack, Dashboards) at the top of the screen to try and use the space up, and having a zone at eyeline for my main thing I'm working on. Fanzyzones is great for that mind though. Tbh, I have ended up using the middle section of the screen mostly. The extra real estate is filled with stuff that clutters my brain :-)

For gaming, some stuff plays great! Cyberpunk looks fantastic on it (3080ti). What I have found with some games though is that I am not able to make best use of the screen size and resolution. AOE4 is a good example where I was actually seeing more in-game area with the 21:9 1440p rather than 16:9 4k. The zoom is just too tight. The games do look amazing on it though. It might just come back to it being very big and maybe too close.

I've switched back to my 34" ultrawide to test it again after a few days on the 42". Will use it for a day and switch back to the 42". It is great to be able to use them in the same space, for the same stuff and properly compare and see what I prefer. Not really something you can do reading specs etc!

Why not run a 3840 x 1600 uw res for AOE4? You will see even more than your old 34" screen. The black bars top and bottom will be inky black and go unnoticed. Best of both worlds. Its what i am going to do for games more suited to an UW res.

Ah! that's a great idea!

Feels reliable for now, several others are referring back to that post too and those guys calibrate their OLEDs and know so much about the OLED technology, its like their married to their OLED.

The guy that posted that info is within the 'loop' as to say.

For now since that info is the most up to date (posted november 2022) so go with what that guy suggest regarding pixel refresher scan timings its just more easier to I.D the panels for now, I would ignore build or manufacturer dates. If it is incorrect ill re-edit the post and update the info.

I thought WBE panels were OLED.EX? Just different names for the same thing? Nevermind, just found out EX panels are just a slightly modded WBE panel with the same pink tint.

Are there people with more recent build date C2 42's with a 60min pixel refresh known to anyone?

Given that March builds are coming with 10mins pixel refresh time suggests that it's a software update that enables the quicker pixel refresh or older panels prior to March that have a 60min refresh time maybe?

Not heard of seen anyone with an C2 42 with 60 minute pixel refresh, not got my February unit anymore but my July 42C2 has 10 minute pixel refresher on it.

This post here and here explains LG moved to the OLED.EX panel after WBC/WBE with a newer T-Conn hardware units and removed the sensors that took 60 minutes to run. So from what I can understand of it all, LG had WBCs, WBEs, then OLED.EX panels. So not quite just a software update, but removing older hardware and putting a newer hardware chipset inside.

Guess it still does not really matter the 42C2 OLED.EX panel can't push the brightness improvements with the newer panel OLED.EX panel anyhow, so whatever is underneath it all produces the same picture quality.

I have to manually turn on the TV's using the button on the TV itself, and then the remotes will only control their own panels. Still annoying but means I can function each TV separately with their own remote.
Can you not just walk up and point the remote directly at the sensor of the desired TV? Cover it with your hand if needed. This works for me when I'm at the lab with 3-4 TVs in the same space. My long term solution at home is a toilet roll tube taped onto the end of the IR remote, for the "test" TV so it doesn't disturb my normal viewing TV.
