LG 42-inch OLED

mine arrived today, why in hell did i not get oled sooner!, need to get a better hdmi cable tho, current one i get screen glitches, tried the 50 quid one from currys and that is going back as it cant even handle 4k 120 even though it says its ultra 2.1 etc.

I'm using my PS5 hdmi cable. No issues so far. I have a backup plan just in case, there's a tested one via a youtuber which can be found at the rain forest for less than £10

I have one of these getting delivered tomorrow. I wasn't in the market for one, but damn that Black Friday £699 deal!

I'm really Looking forward to using it with the PS5 and XSX.

I am though a little torn about using it as a PC monitor. Currently have a BenQ 60hz 4K IPS 32" on the desk for PC use (no gaming) and a small 4K 27" next to it. I use the 27" for PS5 and XSX.

Not sure if this 42" C2 OLED is going to cause issues if used as a monitor, especially when photo editing due to tint shift that I've been reading about. I guess it'll be clear tomorrow after getting it in place.

I had the same benq monitor before I went with the AW3821 for a couple of years before now jumping to the OLED. Once you have calibrated the LG, its perfectly fine for photo editing (which i do a lot of) IMO. calibrated its far more accurate than what my AW3821 or Benq was.

I dont see any tint shift. That only comes when looking side on at the screen which obviously you dont when editing.

I thought the same but then remembered it was down to the 42" screens been £1400 when they came out. Getting this one at £649 is a no brainer.

anyone tried the audioquest line from richer sounds?

Personally I try not to over think hdmi cables, even certification and validation is unrelaible and untrustworthy, there has been so many hdmi cables that claimed 2.1 and could not hit the specs. Its so bad one could probably buy a £1 hdmi cable from poundland and it could still hit the 4K, 120hertz specs even.

Not suggesting don't treat yourself or ignore certified hdmi cables but you just want one that works and hits the specs and that might be an £1 hdmi lead to an £10 or £50 lead. A £50 or £99 cable won't magically make your picture quality better.

Some good videos here hdmi cables here, here, here and a great video discussing fake hdmi 2.1 cables.

As mentioned above someone used the Amazon basics cables and it works fine @ 120/4K. I prefer amazon since if it does not do what it states on the tin, you can send it back as faulty free and get your money back. I think these might be the ones also you have these which are rated higher. Have also heard good things from Kenable certified hdmi cables, but if I was buying it be tempted to try that amazon pack due to specs and pricing and the easy option to return if they don't work.

£8 from Amazon works fine for me.

Agree, i also don't see any tint shift when sat at a reasonable distance. If i stick my head to <1ft then you see a tiny amount at the edges.

I've now used my C2 42 as a work monitor (8+hr days) for ~3 weeks and have found it fantastic. The big take-away for me is reduced eye-strain. With my previous 35" VA 100HZ UW, i would get moderate strain after several hours, but the OLED ive not experienced any of that in worse, darker conditions.

I ran the VA panel at ~150Nits versus 120 for the OLED so unsure if that helped, but either way im happy!

Cheers, this is reassuring.

It arrived very early this morning, looking forward to unboxing it very soon!

Thanks for the reply’s , tried a load I had kicking around and got one that works perfect . Still ordered another from Amazon as need a bit longer . Took the one back to curry house and they said loads of people had returned them. Maybe they should stop selling it then lol

So is the consensus that the LG 42 OLED is the best for office/productivity work in terms of image/text quality?

Is there anything 'better' on the 4K & 32'' (or bigger) space?

The ones i used are the Amazon basic 8K cables.

The subpixel layout isn't ideal for text I thought, but it's compensated for by the contrast, relatively good pixel density, etc. More than good enough considering the rest of the positives.

Overall image quality is amazing yes!

I got mine setup this evening. Was a bit concerned it had been damaged in transit, as it had a deep impact mark on the box, which cut through. Sigh of relief when powering it up.

Wow, it's incredible. Series X and PS5 look stunning. My first time playing @ 120fps as well. I have mine on a 800mm deep desk and I sit back about 1.2 metres. It's not as crazy big as I was fearing and at this distance it's immersive. I haven't ran my PC through it yet, having too much fun with consoles.

The manufactured date on mine is September 2022. Panel is the newer type OLED.EX according to the latest tell tale signs. It looks great!

I bought a service remote for it, originally to check the panel but seems like that's no good for that anyways? Is there anything else the service remote can do or am I worth getting my £12 back?
