LG 42-inch OLED

That’s to achieve a common 120 nits for desktop use. But absolutely fine to set OLED light at whatever you find comfortable. The video where that comes from also provides options for 150 and 200 nits brightness levels which are also quite common

Weird. calibrated my LG C2 last night, not on LUT just through the PC. Surprised to see that even though I had brightness set much higher than 38 brightness, from memory more than 50, the calibration set off and said my brightness was only 127nits which is about perfect. Perhaps updated firmwares have changed the brightness settings? Or do i have something set on my screen which shouldnt be? I will have a play around tonight and test this further.

Anyway calibration came out with a max delta of 0.2 and an average of 0.12 to very pleased with that but not sure I have I done i right. I bought a calibrite display plus as discovered my spyderx pro doesnt play well with OLED screens. after I had calibrated the screen it said that i only had 68% of the srgb colour space which is obviously wildly wrong.

I was using displaycal to carry this out. ANy idea of what i was doing wrong please? Do you have a guide or tips for using displaycal with OLED screens for PC use please? What calibration shoudl I be running out of the 20 to 30 listed please?

Is the service remote the only method to confirm which panel you have? I've read that on the box around where the s/n is, if you look at certain letters, that's also a way to determine which panel you have too apparently. I do not know how accurate this is though.

LG changed the barcode system so it does not work, service menu is best way forward check this post and this post

Folks, am I going crazy here....

When I have the OCUK forum on viewed on my screen the screen is bright, but as soon as I make the window smaller and more white background/windows are showing, the brightness drastically goes down... is this the so called ABL stuff?

Yeah, that’s exactly it. It adjusts as more bright/white light is shown.

try following this and it shouldnt happen anymore. Unless you have your screen set to more than 200 nits brightness in SDR in which case it still will

Owning my C1 for 15 months as a monitor,
I set my HDR settings on my TV as to HDTV youtuber settings.

I've been running it in HDR mode on Win 11.
When you Right Click on Desktop, Display Properties, Enable HDR, click on the HDR tab, and scroll down, you can then adjust SDR brightness.
I run mine at 25% (My room is quite dark, so you may have to turn this up to your preference) leaving desktop icons and task bar on view all the time. Never had screen burnin with these settings for all that time.

This is also with the service remote disabling TPC and GSR.

This way you get good SDR and Maximum HDR that switches as soon as you load some content in HDR.

This is with the WBE panel.

Good to hear! I'm kinda running my aw3423dw similar but only enable HDR before launching HDR content/game. But brightness is low to around 100nits for SDR which is decent for my room.

Do you notice any flaws running HDR in windows all the time without viewing HDR content or games? With the aw3423dw, I do see a slight difference.

No, not had any flaws, if anything the picture is a little warmer looking with HDR set on in Windows. Other than that, HDR content plays in either Window mode or full screen.

Your results sound the same as mine mate. I remember reading that game mode may give a lower relative brightness. My WBC panel which I calibrated last week was running only around 100nits at nearly 50 oled brightness.

This was using an Xrite I1 with Displaycal

Wow, I was just looking at few weeks back and getting it for £850 was considered cheap, I'm very LTTP and seen the £699 + 5 year warranty deal.. can't believe they still had stock, so grabbed one for Dec 10th delivery.

Now, do I use management discretion to buy an Ergotron HX for WFH duties, or if I have to pay, any recommendations? I'd like to get the bottom of the TV right next to the desk surface?
