LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

You mention Ice Giant and I research it and it uses dielectric fluid why can't custom watercooling coolant do the same! What's wrong with the Lazy manufactures today!, by look at the image of ice giant I can see why you didn't use it in your RGB build. But for me looks OK:) if and when safe coolant use the dielectric fluid I will start a custom RGB watercooling build myself.

This Ice Giant would be better than the AIO if your case supports it

  • Excellent performance
    • Overcomes the physical limitations of air coolers
  • Extreme reliability
    • ProSiphon technology was originally developed to have zero maintenance in harsh environments
    • No pump = no moving parts to fail
    • No sludge buildup = consistent performance
  • Safety
    • No water = no chance of water damage
    • Uses dielectric fluid, cannot harm equipment
    • 10 Year Warranty

i was ok with the no rgb and huge size, but it was a little disapointing that it is only at par with a Noctua NH-D15, maybe thier next version would be a improvement

A few thoughts on this since I’ve had the opportunity to run my 3090 through the CX.

SD content is excellent because of the contrast.

Playing dark content is amazing in the right room conditions (I.e. a dark room).

Regular content is fine, but dark / horror game’s or films do require a very dark room because of the reflections. In my lounge which only has blinds, it’s not dark enough to use the OLED for this sort of content in the day.

HDR is not as good as my 4 year old Samsung TV for typical content, as the Samsung can get much brighter, and in that regard I think OLEDs are a little overhyped, or people have been switching over from rubbish TVs.

It’s an improvement overall and the ‘blacks are black’ but there are some trade-offs.

Whats the consensus on resolution on these? (i have a c9 but assuming the same logic applies)

I recently got a 3080fe and have been mainly playing cyberpunk, ive been switching between 4k and 1440p (neither will run at 120fps on this)

I can get about 60fps on 4k with a few settings turned down and dlss and about 90-100 on 1440p which is a nice boost.

I "think" 4k looks sharper but the motion of the extra frames is great.

Whats the view of the board 4k@ 60 or 1440p @> 90?

On this screen 4K surely, as you're presumably not sitting that far from from it?

Well I just got the CX55 also couch gaming from around 170-190 cm or so. Feels a little to far away. But move closer as then movies, seems way to much in my face. Ah that damn dilemma LOL!

I just have a 2060S so I go 1440P. Of course it's sharper at 4K. But I just love high fps - say a pc gamer that doesent.
I add a little shapening from NVCP. The Tv IMO are doing a fantastic job of upscaling. Never seen 1440P look this good on anyother screen, when Not using native res.

And those few games hitting around 120fps as in Spyro. It's just crazy on this OLED. Never in my life seen such clean motion. Crystal clear as no ugly LCD blur in OLED land. Just a sight to behold!

The Ice Giant is an on going future product, IMO I think they could cut the radiator size down to a thinner one that would cut the weight down a lot for the motherboard, or maybe make a small radiator with just two fans on!:)

Can anyone advise if this monitor or the newer LG OLED48C16LA have a picture by picture mode. Would be real handy to have my work laptop displayed on one half the screen and home pc on the other

I haven't explored other models too deeply (I test smart TVs at work) but I had a 2015 Samsung which did PIP. I could have two 1080p inputs left and right, and move the divider to resize them. Was handy!
yeah it is a real useful feature in the times of working from home and limited desk space. Trick is finding something great for games and good for work too

Did you really think ounces you bought a 3080fe would you get all 120hz in all games! No you will not, to your question the 1440p is 2K resolution do you really think you will see that 30fps more then 4K @60hz sitting back on a beautiful OLED! If you want 120Hz you need quality the 2.1 cable or you're going to have to reduced graphics in cyberpunk 2077

Completely agree, pitch black rooms and that OLED will excel like anything but certainly there are trade offs as you say, VA and IPS panels still have a fair decent brightness and in general appear slightly better black dark detail handling its one thing I too noticed with my Samsung TVs and CX but having said all that I do feel the OLED viewing angles, colours and blacks overall are just way better. If you were watching the VA panel dead on you could perhaps get away with it but at an slight angle the picture qualities fades with VA, with IPS not so bad but OLED much better.

Hopefully samsung's QD displays bridges that gap with the brightness, colours and OLED blacks and OLED viewing angles to make the dream display in few years time.

Some random tips you may not need, curtains ;) also switch off Dynamic tone mapping this can incorrectly set the HDR brightness in HDR films.

ouch $1300 from LG (out of stock of course)

Thats pretty damn high if you ask me given the size difference and that monitors should naturally be cheaper to manufacture than tv's
I realise its the first OLED monitor of its size but even so that must be a pretty big premium imo

It's the world first LG's 31.5-inch 32EP950 OLED monitor @60hz panel aimed at professionals working with photos, video and graphics, but at a premium price. IMHO if LG was to make a 32inch OLED monitor just to game on they will still need to keep at premium price @£899 so not to lose the flagship Gaming CX/C1 TV's on the market today,

You having a bad day or something?

Where in anything I posted have I said I expect to get 120fps in games?

I do happen to have a 2.1 cable and can see the TV is getting about 44gig of bandwidth so I'm all good there thanks

All I was asking was what the general consensus between 2k @ roughly 90fps or 4k 60 and yes I can quite clearly see those 30 FPS.

So pipe down

Since when has that ever played out? Every single monitor, IPS or VA has always being more expensive than the TV equivalent.

Market size.
