LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

I'm considering avoiding a GPU purchase this gen again as I'm expecting another epic rip-off, and as a result will consider a console purchase instead. Is there anything to indicate one over the other in terms of HDR support and general compatibility with this screen?

I suppose what I'm asking is have any of you got your eye on a console to pair with this, and if so why that particular choice?

Keep in mind MS puts a greater emphasis on HDR than Sony, and in particular they are looking to have some killer back-compat HDR capability for older games on top. Granted you already have an excellent PC so whether the extras of Xbox off-set the loss of Sony exclusives, that's a subjective choice. Xbox also is generally better supportive of surround sound setups with things like Dolby Atmos, so that might be another factor to consider, while Sony is focusing more on headsets.

@Poneros thanks for that.

I've been drawn to Xbox and that was mostly down to the Gamepass Ultimate service where I believe I could access PC, Console and cloud gaming for around £10/month. The legacy HDR facility you mentioned is news to me. I'm finding HDR is pretty much essential for proper enjoyment of this OLED screen, to the point where I'm now reluctant to invest in games that don't support it.

I'm personally going to shoot for a PS5, due to the playstation exclusives.

That said, I can't resist getting a 3080ti, as long as it's 40-50% over the 2080ti performance. 4K 120Hz (with some settings lowered ofc) will set me up for years to come.

Yup most places have got it, if anyone wants it make sure to look for this model : OLED48CX5LC and try selfridges they do it the cheapest @ 1.4k but don't know about their warranty.

Curries model version has the 6 in it.

Sadly I have found out JL will not be stocking them till September+

Still, in 3 weeks we should have Sonys 48 oled also available, I am intrigued to see some A/B comparisons or reviews but probably won't happen for a while.

Hi whats the difference between your recommended model and Currys 6LB one

Thank you all for explanation all clear now. Dont care about bezel colours as far i can watch freeview in 4K quality :)

I want to choose between 4k60 and 1440*120 depending on the particular game demands. What's the best way to do this?

Desktop set to 4k and drop the resolution in-game
or desktop set to 1440*120 and increase the resolution in-game
or switch desktop resolution to match the desired game resolution?

So I pulled the pin and bought one from RicherSounds, arrived this morning. I already own a 55C9 in the living room so am aware how good they look. Using mine as a second screen for MacBook Pro and gaming monitor for PC as well as TV for bedroom. So far everything seems great. Only played Doom Eternal and Insurgency Sandstorm so far. Doom in 4k HDR 60fps suffers from that lower fps. I found it very noticeable and switched to 1440p 120fps and that looks fantastic. I was surprised Insurgency struggled a bit, I was getting 85-90fps in 4k but again it was noticeably worse movement wise than at 1440p where 120fps was effortless. Oh well looks like the new 3080ti or whatever the top card gets called is going to be a must. Better start saving again.

Without trawling through the whole thread is there any settings I want off or on for gaming?
