LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

Someone on avforums said the CX48 will come down to 1.4K again in Black Friday, but he didn't mention the source so not sure if true or not also the 55cx will come down also to 1.2-3k, if one can bag a £100 gift voucher and free £80 FN4 ear phones maybe its worth a check.

Still I agree if you can wait LG will probably release the C11 next summer/fall and imo it's always better to have hdmi 2.1 devices on the shelves and in peoples homes so one can support it properly, the CX seems a bit of a flaky with its lack of DTS support and lack of full hdmi 2.1 hardware, it's not like it doesn't cost an arm and leg as it is.

Eh, why do you care about DTS if you're using this as a monitor? It's also a codec being removed from other TVs in 2020. It's doubtful it will be coming back. Also what do you mean lack of full hdmi 2.1 hardware? It supports 2.1 fine. It's as likely C11 will have its own set of issues. I don't see much point waiting. I mean, the next version will always be better in some sense, it's the same with buying any electronics.

Yeah I don't care about burn-in anymore thanks to the warranty. If that had existed last year, I would have bought this from the get-go rather than my AW3420DW ultrawide. But now the concern is about the actual implementation of HDMI 2.1 with the numerous bugs, because in fairness the ultrawide is a gorgeous monitor and I'm really happy and content with it. This upgrade would potentially be for my endgame display, so I'd like to make sure it'll be that noticeable flawless experience. Worst comes to worst, I'm happy to wait another couple of months for the CXI/C11, or see what other manufacturers are offering with HDMI 2.1 OLEDs.

As I said the burn -in have always been a heated debated on the forums, Just enjoy the best LG OLED for gaming;)

Having been burned by insurance many times in the past, I hear you. But I've also had JL replace the entire panel on a TV under a similar insurance from them, after my 5yo son decided he wanted to see how easy glass could scratch. I couldn't replace my son but JL had no issue replacing the screen :D. It was painless and easy - called them up, they collected the TV for repair, returned it with brand new panel in perfect condition. Technically, yes, they can try to worm out of it. But I am not worried at all about JL / protect plus trying to screw me over. It even explicitly says it covers burn in and accidental damage. JL is the best place to buy this kind of gear from in my experience over the years. Now if you buy from Curry's - good luck to you.

If JL insurance is good on burn-in then next time when I buy another OLED I will buy from them, but I never though of looking at JL when I was looking for an OLED TV anyway I got mine at Curry's it's my small fault, life goes on I don't look back on what I should/shouldn't have done and as I said I don't use my OLED 16 hours a day most I use it is 12hours a day with mix content because now I am older I like my beauty sleep more:D:D:D

oh I don't use the 48CX as a daily monitor, far too big for myself it's more a TV set and sometimes doubling up as a 2nd monitor. It would have been nice if I could have used my Blu-ray rips (some in DTS) to just load directly off the 48CX for playback, but we have workarounds. I was not aware of DTS codec fading out I thought sony oleds were supporting it more?

Vincet T did a pretty good ytube video a while back where he explained how the 48Gbps (fuller hdmi 2.1 spec ports) would still be better to handle video information down the pipe rather than the 40Gbps.

But sure I agree probably means nothing for us lot and LG have still done a much better job than Samsung, Sony, philips whom really gimped their hdmi 2.1.

My post was more for Minato, he has an impressive monitor atm and well if he can wait I second that idea, if I personally could have waited I too would have preferred for hdmi 2.1 devices to arrive (GPUs and Consoles and bluray players etc) we may at least then have a bit more polished bug free support but as you say always something better around the corner.

Currys has excellent support btw, it's probably the least headache and hassle-free approach to booking in faulty systems there are no middle man or contact LG tech for rma or any other hoops to jump through. You simply call up, go thru phone diagnostic if the issues still there they automate the booking repair job, as in it's done in minutes by their computer system. So they just collect it, repair it and deliver it usually within a week or 2.

Probably one of the best systems I have currently seen, it's probably since they have an LG partnership so LG could do this type of service.

ALERT

Chaps this is back in stock on JL as of 6 minutes ago. Just pulled the trigger and will be taking delivery Thursday.

Tempted to buy this again despite the first one being sent back with a bad panel.

Still waiting for the funds to clear from JL and may move the gaming setup to a new room which could fit a bigger TV, will be sold out before I make up my mind! :(:D

Nice, it's a good time to buy if you've been waiting since you'll be able to get the BF price match too now.

Edit: Whoops, spoke too soon. Seems like both FN4 and the 100 gift card deal is off. But you'll very likely be able to get 100 off price matched this BF.

So much for holding on ;)

Seriously enjoy the beauty, once you go OLED you can't go back everything else looks meh.

Just give it a good 50hrs and 200hrs usage and the picture quality will adjust much better

That is probably why they put them in stock lol, so they don't have to give out £200 worth of free goodies !

Has anyone figured out a way to get audio out of the TV into PC? As it's a PC monitor for me, I have all my sound stuff hooked up to my PC. For the native TV apps though, I'd like it to send its audio into the PC somehow. Is this even possible?

From what I have heard no real fuss mentioned around the net for either company, it's the law also and they gotta follow it.

I returned the 55" due to white uniformity issues - barely noticeable tbh but I had to accept it was simply too big, so downgrading to the 48" when they have stock.

I'm not sure John Lewis have a future - the returns process for a £1400 TV was too fast and efficient. Free collection, no testing done their end, prompt refund.

Cheers both, good to know.

I was pondering that as well. It does have an optical out \ headphone out, so you just need to have something on your pc to connect one of those to. You can get optical to analogue cables. Wonder if that would work to an input on the motherboard.

Yup optical output works very nice and at least it's hiss free due to being optical digital but your PC soundcard or amp/dac needs to have an optical input also(many dont)

Otherwise, 3.5 mm headphone out is fine, you just need a 3.5mm jack to jack cable (same 3.5mm both ends) to your line in connector on the PC soundcard or amp/dac line input they cost £3-4 of flebay, only annoying thing is the slight hiss you get going headphone output you can tweak the line input volume signal to help it a little but if you can go optical output.

Hi mate what if you use a wireless USB headset? I've got the Steelseries Arctis 7, the receiver connects to the motherboard via USB, and then the headset connects wirelessly to the receiver.

So much for holding on ;)

I figured who knows, I might not survive the second wave of COVID (ICU doctor) so might as well treat myself while I can :p

I can't be 100% on that since never owned a USB headset but off the top of my head the USB headset receiver still needs a PC usb slot to turn it into an audio sound card type device (like a soundcard and driver). The TV would not be the same id imagine, so I believe it won't work with wireless and that receiver. Does it not have a wired Connection option? maybe if it has a 3.5 mm jack input it may then be used a normal set of wired headphones.

Does it have bluetooth support? I think the LG oled has bluetooth support, something to check perhaps.

Don't blame you at all enjoy life is very short with covid and I have seen guys on lock down spending 6K......on headphones
