LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

What is the procedure whilst using the tv with another monitor when the pc enters sleep mode? Turn the tv off first, then enter sleep mode? Then turn the tv back on before reengaging out of sleep mode?
Are there any preferred screen savers for this tv? Is Mystify screen saver on windows 10 ok?

How far away are you guys sitting from one of these, is it practical to use as a monitor and don't you get image retention using as a monitor?

I am slightly deficient when it comes to HDMI cables because I am familiar with display port cables. Can someone recommend an HDMI cable? Do i get a 2.0 or 2.1? My graphics cards are still the GTX 2080 series. I am not sure if Big Navi will work with this TV but have my eyes set on that RTX 6800 XT.

- Also could someone please confirm the following :
Is it feasible to play games at 1440p @ 120hz on this tv? How does 1440p look on a windowed screen (reduced size)? I currently play 1440p on my 32" professional monitors @75hz. Quite frankly, there is not much difference between 75hz and 144hz. Yes 144hz is slightly smoother, but the difference is mostly pshycological.

-So for normal desktop work on the OLED, it's better to be full RGB at 60hz. Is this correct?

-Has anyone tried that chroma sub sampling stuff, so as to get the 120hz all the time? How does that look?

Your 20 series card is only a HDMI 2.0b no point of buying a HDMI 2.1 that is only for the 30 series cards and even if you get 120hz you will not get that in every game

I sit 2-3meters away from a CX55 desktop:p the LG was design to be a gaming monitor, but it's still a TV;)

This is not like a PC monitor when you put your computer to sleep the TV must be turn off with the TV controller, the LG TV have it's own built in screen saver

if I scroll down the list I have the option of 4k 120hz under the pc resolutions, I click apply and you get the 15 seconds to say yes or no to the changes. Click yes and it immediately just reverts to the tv 4k 60 option.

Then it's your Cheap HDMI cable, and you want a 7-8 meter cable what you got in a office?

At what height is the bottom horizontal bezel of your tv's from the flat desk surface?
I know many of you have purchased aftermarket desktop tv stands. I am trying to find a desktop tv stand that will allow the bottom horizontal bezel of the tv to drop down to about 3"-4" above the desk. Is this feasible? Height is extremely important, because our eyes need to be centered in the middle of the tv.

I am trying to find a desktop tv stand with two features:
1. It will allow the tv to be mounted low (4.5 cm or under 2" is perfect).
2. Needs no clearance behind the tv, so as to place the tv as far back against the wall as possible.

any ideas?

'No More Nails' ?

The standard one that came out of the box
Apparently the standard mount protrudes a lot backwards? So it is not practical to use on a normal desk because of the clearance it requires. Normal desks are approximately 30" or 76cm in depth.
'No More Nails' ?
What? Stick nails into the wall? And have the tv all the way back? I had not thought of that...ummm

What do you mean? Whites on a professional monitor showing proper sRGB are slightly yellowish anyway. Whites on most gaming monitors on standard mode are more blue. All this can be adjusted in the Nvidia control panel or in the rgb section. For monitors that do not emulate sRGB properly (ALL gaming monitors) I use RED 48 GREEN 46 BLUE 32, to do desktop work. Set the brightness to 40, and contrast to 55. This gets me closest to sRGB. Then you have other problems such as "magenta push", most gaming monitors are "off" on the reds (they contain too much magenta tone) and are "off" on the greens. This you can't correct. It's their nature. Whilst gaming monitors may have superb colors in games, they are not color accurate when it come down to color critical work.

OLED have poor white uniformity. One side will be blue while the other is orange.
This is separate to the off centre blue tinge OLEDs suffer from.
Combined, these issues make viewing content with white backgrounds most unpleasant.
It’s not something you can fix.

My pc and monitor are on one side (LG 38” GN) and then behind that I have the tv on a sideboard for more relaxed gaming. So I need the hdmi to run around the wall of the room to reach it.

will look into some of the fibre options, just don’t want the hassle of having to return loads before finding a working one.

also need to shift my LG 4K laser projector first ideally too, to free up the ££

ahh at 7 metres it's going to be tricky especially when you want that 120hertz, RGB, 10bit etc, Fiber optic hdmi cables may be the ticket or a good hdmi extender with separate power may work but hear they are glitchy sometimes.

There is a conway 8k fiber optic cable around £90-100 and also RUIPRO 8k fiber optic for £175 on rainforest, I have tried the conway 8k one but no joy with that one, it cut out on me with trying 4K, 60hertz and 8bit-RGB.

The ibrah 4K fiber optic cable that was tad iffy for few minutes but then kicked in and works faultless now but the real test will be if it can handle 120 hertz @ 8k with 10bit/RGB :) If it doesn't ill probably have to try the RUIPRO 8K cable.

I know it sucks hard when you want that 7 metre length run, try a 15-metre run ;)

I read the ruipro we’re having issues on another forum and waiting on further testing

Anyone experience a smell coming out of the back of the TV?

My new 48CX has it - seen posts elsewhere that it may go away after a week or two, or that the PSU may need to be replaced. Shame as it's otherwise a perfect panel.

Mine had the typical 'new electronics' smell for a few days, though quickly fades. Did you remove the plastic covering on the back of the monitor?

ahh interested do you have the link for that thread? May save me time and money from buying it into the future. Once they release 3060/3050 cards ill probably be in the same boat with all the 120hertz/10bit/RGB hell sadly, will let you know if my ibra fiber optic cable works though I am praying it does since it's a nightmare to re-cable 15-metre run.

Edit:

Just checked comments and reviews on rainforest and yes it appears that cable does not work with LG CX series and 30xx GPUs even with the new LG fixed firmware.

info below:
RUIPRO have solved the compatibility issue for these new GPUs and TVs, please choose Ships from RUIPRO-US.
RUIPRO-US will send you the cable which works well with LG CX and RTX 3090 for HDMI2.1 directly.
By RUIPRO-UK

So you just have to buy from amazon.com US and maybe pay the import fee. Maybe best to wait for them to fix the UK version, funny how they had to 'fix' the cable, that should be a product recall really.

Can already tell hdmi 2.1 is going to cause a hdmi cable bonfire in 2021 through to 2024
